BND Posted April 26, 2021 #82 Share Posted April 26, 2021 Fortunately, the only group we've ever been onboard with was a large line dancing group that took over the dance floors every night. No matter the song they line danced. We always do a google search of the cruise date and ship before we book just to make sure there's not a large group onboard. We do the same thing when we are about to book................and it pays to check later as groups can be formed. We also have been "booted" off a ship when Royal gets a "full charter" booked. We have had that happen on both Royal and Celebrity. The Celebrity was a B2B which was a bummer - the ship was "chartered" as a floating hotel in San Francisco to accommodate attendees for a gigantic tradeshow. Other than a few private events, they were wonderful. We've actually been on a couple sailings that included charter groups that we were not a part of. The first was in 2011...a Legends of Country Music (or something of the sort). We didn't know there was a charter group until we stepped on board and we started to recognize a few celebrities in the Windjammer (Freedom of the Seas) before we even saw our cabin. We then found ourselves running into Charley Pride and/or his wife throughout the sailing...even sitting at an adjacent table with them in Chops Grille one evening. Then the last cruise that we were on (Feb 2020) before the world locked down...We were on Allure after 2-3 years of planning. We found out fairly early that there were a couple partial charters for this sailing, but since we had been looking forward to this we chose to not change our plans. The charters ended up being "Grown & Sexy" and "Sing & Sail Christians". Two very different demographic groups, but it was very enjoyable, it was great to visit with some of the participants (i.e., suite lounge, poolside, shore excursions, etc.) and as others have said they often had private events so it really didn't inconvenience us or disrupt our vacation at all. TYMAN Posted May 14, 2021 #90 Share Posted May 14, 2021 Okay, wanted to throw this out there. Cruised with the Legends of Green Bay Packers, not a bad cruise at all. Keep mostly up by the Sky Bar during the day, never really saw them much at night. Casino was not as crowded as other cruises. They did take over VCL most nights for private parties. Anyway, found out that our Allure cruise has the World Poker Tour having their tournaments on board. Any thoughts on if the casino will be packed, or do you think they'll set up a bunch of tables in another part of the ship?

The tour will probably have there own area for their event but they will probably attract more gamblers on the ship.
RFerrington Posted May 14, 2021 #92 Share Posted May 14, 2021 We have cruised with the World Poker tour before. While they hold most of their events in the Conference area, the casino was definitely busier than usual. We would not do it again - not b/c of the crowds but b/c we realized we really don’t care for the poker players’ behaviors and attitudes. We both love poker but these guys and gals were waaay over the top.
TYMAN Posted May 14, 2021 #93 Share Posted May 14, 2021 Thanks for the info. My M-I-L wants to stick with this cruise, so wish us luck...no pun intended.
Cigar King Posted May 14, 2021 #94 Share Posted May 14, 2021 We sailed once with the poker tour as well. Not my cup of tea, but I did find it interesting the way they approached the game AND what other gambling they did. Honestly it seems like a job to me. I did get to visit during their game, they had a big stakes game going in addition to the tournament.

I’m an amateur and always will be. The pros are much too intense for my game. Many of them were just garden variety a-holes. Lol
katiel53 Posted May 14, 2021 #96 Share Posted May 14, 2021 We sailed twice with a religious group that was quite large. The Solarium Bistro was closed to everyone except their group for the whole week because they had it for their food. They were also rude to employees and passengers. The parents did not discipline the kids in any way. I now check to be sure there are no large groups when we cruise. I do realize that there can be groups that we don't know of that are on the ship, but if there have been, we haven't been affected by them. I definitely will not cruise when the group we encountered twice is sailing on the ship we wish to book. I check their website to find out what ship and when they are cruising. It is always in Jan as the kids have a week off from their schools then.

They did have the Bistro to themselves but otherwise they were not much different that whenever there is a large number of kids. We were once on the Liberty during Thanksgiving and there were a lot of parents that seem to have been on vacation from parenting. For the same reasons we do not sail in the summer. Jenna Posted May 14, 2021 #98 Share Posted May 14, 2021 Gosh, I'm so curious to know who this "religious group" is. I'm originally from NY so I have a guess from the descriptions of their behavior, but they don't strike me as the type of person you would see on a cruise. Hmmmm🤔🤔
SeaHunt Posted May 14, 2021 #99 Share Posted May 14, 2021 This makes me remember the poster who asked about sailing on a partial "Furry" fan theme cruise. Some hilarious replies to that! 😊 Though looking at google I guess it never went that year anyway due to Covid (supposed to sail November 2020): http://my.furrycruise.com/
