Sailing on a chartered theme cruise while not being part of the charter group?

Recommended Posts

We sailed with a partial charter with us while on Symphony and other than at the pool, hardly noticed. About 1500 corporate incentive group. They were a fun bunch and a welcome addition to the nightlife.
At the pool though, they would reserve some rows of chairs with their company branded towel clips for hours with just a couple of people manning them while everyone was at breakfast.

Other than that wouldn’t have noticed they were onboard. They had their private events in the conference centre.

Just found out our 27 March 2022 Oasis cruise is hosting the “Legends of Pittsburgh Steelers” cruise.  My understanding is that they’re not chartering the entire ship, just reserving a huge block of cabins for about 1000 - 1200 people, so our reservation is probably safe.

I would probably consider rescheduling. With a group of 1200 guests, they will be closing some public facilities daily to support private events. Personally, if I pay for a cruise, I expect full access to all public facilities on the ship. And not be excluded in favor of the charter.

And this chair-hogging was allowed by RCI pool staff...That doesn't seem fair at all to the other paying cruiser's.

Pool staff did appear to turn a blind eye to it... not sure how many passengers actually spoke up/complained if they couldn't find a chair due to the "reserved" chairs.

I've only been on one partial charter.  It was an LGBT partial charter by Aquafest I had reservations about going wondering what it would be like but it was no problem at all.  Except for an excessive amount of glitter and bling on formal nights it was not a problem at all.  A couple of times I saw signs up at the Star Lounge or Studio B that advised of a private event but those venues are usually only open and in use for specific events anyways. Otherwise there was no loss of access that was noticeable.

One time on a cruise long ago we were excluded from a lounge we wanted to use.  The sign at the door said "Private Event, Cruise Critic".  Fortunately, it was only for one morning.

After too much sun we would love to sit up in VC Lounge but every day they would kick us out for some Dimond members event ....so rude ! :classic_rolleyes:

Staff won’t normally do anything if people don’t complain.

We were on a ship with a Harley Davidson group.  They were very friendly folks and we had quite a few interesting conversations.  One thing I noticed, when they had events, the rest of the ship was less crowded.  That was a plus.

Agree, as they did own events at times Pool was almost Empty, WJ Empty, even some shows were wide open

Oh- I think I know which group you are talking about. 😞

It was an annual thing for that group.  The crew hated working that week.  Unbelievably rude to all the crew, especially the officers, as I was told by one officer.  😮   Took over many of the lounges, and Wipe Out Cafe all week.  Pushed and shoved their weight around the whole time.  Real shame.

We were on two "partial charters" - one was a Harley group  WOW the noise when they would all get their bikes at the different ports to do a ride. Captain Johnny joined them a couple of times. Now problems at all on board.

The second was an Elvis group - lots if impersonators and the cruisers were all dressed in 50's outfits - lots of poodle skirts and big hairdos. They were a fun group for sure and brought back some great memories. Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the Meet and Mingle.  Lasts a total of 45 minutes max. 🤨  Most of the time it is so early, that many CC members can't make it as they are still sleeping in.

It might be possible to survive the loss of that lounge for that brief of a time early in the morning just once during the week.  😉

So funny on the Elvis group cruise!  😄

We did an NCL cruise out of Hawaii one year that had a Star Trek fan group on board.  Ran into George Takei and his partner in the elevator.  They had just come from a craft class, making Puka bead necklaces (very popular in Hawaii).  They were excited to show us what they made.  Very nice man, seemed to really enjoy life.

Actually we were trying to beam up...but missed our floor when we were yacking too much with them.  😉

Hey...the elevator kind of looks like a beam up machine!  😄

Also been on a few partial charters.

One was a religious group.  There was plenty of room in the casino and bars.

Another was a group from a pharmaceutical company.  They were in meetings throughout most of the day so pools were delightfully uncrowded.  At night they just seemed to blend in.

However, nothing against Steelers' fans, but I would probably cancel any football charter.

We had a pleasant bonus on one , there was a large group of first responders and they had a late night concert in main show room with someone that was in American idol, suite concierge said all suite people were invited to show, he was very entertaining.

I would definitely consider rescheduling.  We were on a chartered cruise (by accident) once and definitely felt like an "outsider".  There will be areas designated only for those part of the charter.  I believe you would enjoy a non-chartered cruise better.

We have accidently booked on theme cruisers twice.Once was a off the beaten track religious sect from New York, about 900 people, hellish time.Second time,an Irish music cruise which we wished we were part of.My opinion is rebook unless you are a Steeler fan.

We were on once with the "Grown and Sexy" cruise.  Other than a few private events, they were wonderful.  I'd cruise with them again, no problem.  I think you should take and enjoy your cruise.  After all, it's not like it's a cruise for Packer fans.  😉

We were on one with them last year.  There were no negatives with them onboard.  We met a few of them and they are a fun group.
