If you have personal experience with this please answer. I have heard both yes and no, so I am looking for people who did this themselves.  I am booked on a Casino offer with free drinks everywhere on the ship. My husband is not included in that offer. I was told that once ONBOARD (not prior, online), that we can buy the Cheers package just for him once I prove I have free drinks. Have any of you been able to do this? I have heard people say yes they have and others say you still have to buy for both. I have a lot of OBC but trying to plan on whether I want to buy extra Bar Cash. We sail in 2 weeks on the Pride. Thanks all!!

If you search this forum you will find a lot of answers to your question.

It is asked a lot, especially now that so many people are getting casino offers with free drinks everywhere on the ship.

You will get PERSONAL experiences 🙂

I have and did not get a straight answer. Also search on FB posts, etc. I get people saying yes and people saying no. So I figured I'd ask now that sailing is back!

Why would you want to purchase bar cash ahead of time and have to put it on your credit card when you have OBC to burn?  Plus, bar cash is a total waste anyway since all you can use it for is your bar tab and you pay for it ahead of time and if you have some left over, it's lost.  Now, if Carnival had a promotion that offered you the opportunity to buy it at a discount, that would be a different story.

The only reason I could think of is if they possibly were not backing their S&S card with a credit card? Agree, I don't see why some guests feel a need to buy cash for Pixels, Bar, or Cruise. Guess maybe they were hit with a hefty tab on an early cruise and don't want to get hammered twice.

Are you sure. I ahve never seen an included drink package for only one. Always for two. I would double check that.

We're in the same boat, different ships though!

I booked 4 of those $200 balcony deals with my drinks anywhere on the ship, including a 10 day out of Rome! Ciao Bella!!

As you read in the subsequent posts, it's a casino offer.  The gamblers get the best deals from Carnival.  Depending upon how the individual is rated, it can vary from a deep discount to a free inside or free balcony, free drinks for one or two just in the casino or everywhere.

I can speak to this.  Got off the Miracle a few weeks ago with the exact same situation.  Two servers told me Hubby could not buy package even though I had it.  I was not aggressive enough to go on up the chain.  Upon my return, I reached out to John Heald and he referred me to the Fun Shops people.  She confirmed that he was eligible and encouraged that I should not have taken No for an answer.  She has flagged somehow my next cruise that I have booked with that offer.  Hopefully, servers and ships will become better educated.  If you are told no, go to Guest Services and higher up the chain.

Also, don't forget to ask if your traveling companion was eligible for the same or another offer.  DH and I have often booked cruises using a promo that we were both eligible for.  Contact the Casino Department and give the companion's VIFP number.  They will extend all of the perks attached to the offer that they were eligible for, even though they didn't book it.

Personal experience, recent.

On the Breeze, July 29 sailing, I was booked on a free suite casino offer that included DOU everywhere for me only amongst the comps.

Roommate wanted the Cheers package, but we couldn't book it in advance (because it wanted to charge for me also). On board, went to guest services and he had it added to his account without issue.

Ditto for us as well.  Have one booked in a Havana Cabin for Jan 2023, Cheers is only for myself, not my spouse.  Following this post as I am curious as well.  I too have seen many conflicting answers to this question, however,  none answered from someone who has actually experienced this.

Seems to me that post #13, the one previous to yours was fairly succinct confirming they had first hand experience with the last sentence in their post.

I've tried this. My wife doesn't gamble at all, so she doesn't get the drink perk like I do, so she's stuck. I get the free drinks in the casino. I think we might go to guest services once on board and try to get her the drink pkg.

We recently returned cruised on the Breeze.  I had a casino offer with DOU for me everywhere on the ship, but nothing for my daughter.  So, when I went to the casino the first day to get the sticker for my S&S card, they checked and gave her drinks "while gambling in the casino".   It is quite hilarious for both of us that I keep getting these DOU offers because neither of us drinks alcoholic beverages.  We do enjoy virgin "fancy drinks" (as we call them) and I especially enjoy the bottled water.  So, depending on the initial offer, it never hurts to check.    We gambled in both the main and smoke-free casinos, but while gambling in the smoke-free casino were given a free dinner by the Pit Boss (or whatever they are called) at the Cucina Del Capitano Italian Restaurant which was very enjoyable.  We had a wonderful cruise and can't wait for more booked cruises in 2022.

I'm so happy cruising is back!

I have.  That's usually all I get. Drinks anywhere onboard but just for me, not a cabin mate.

  • 2 weeks later...

I booked the NYE cruise on the Horizon with an offer for free drinks everywhere on the ship.  The offer is specifically for me (not a companion).  All offers that include a companion will state that.

For this particular offer, I booked it under my name.  However, my husband had the same offer.

I emailed the Casino through www.oceanplayersclub.com and asked if he would receive the same perks since he had the same offer.

I got a response within 2 days and they said that since he had the same offer, it will be honored for him as well.  (this included $500 funplay too!)

I have saved the email so I have proof when we board.

If you  have the offer with free drinks only in the casino, both of you would be required to purchase CHEERS if one wanted it.  The exception is only for those with the free drinks all over the ship which is the casino has purchased CHEERS for them already so they permit the second person to buy CHEERS onboard

I called on this topic.  My sister is cruising for their first time and my offer is free drinks anywhere.  They told me to go to guest services when we get on the ship and pay for her drink package.  You have to wait til your onboard so you will not get the 10% off for booking prior to cruise.  Hope it goes smoothly!

I just got off Monday and had the same issue. I had free drinks everywhere. My other three cabin mates did not. They were trying to make me buy the package again at the casino bar when purchasing. I asked him to call a manager. The manager came up and was able to over ride the system so I didn't have to purchase it again. Since one wanted it, all three had to buy it since they were over 21, which is what they wanted anyways.
