Evening entertaintment

Does Oceania ever have someone playing the guitar in the evening in one of the lounges? Either solo or small group. Not talking about a rock n roll band but an alternative to a string quartet.

I would recommend talking with your CD or Social Director. Particularly on R ships, I have seen them very facilitating in the past , in the Lounge, pre evening show.

 

Upon request, I have seen everything from a Jazz guitarist ( since you asked), ballroom dancing, big band, and rock being played. On nights with outside performers, I have seen the entertainment crew do fun songs by request during that period.

 

We had a couple of the CD tell the groups to make requests for those time slots. The band enjoys practicing and doing different stuff in lieu of always following a repetitive routine. So , talk to your CD or SD and see they’ll do for you. The ballroom dancers never seem bashful in asking! 😙

Entertainment on cruise ships can vary depending upon what is available from booking agents. I have seen a vast variety. Some good, some bad, most are ok.  Occasionally you get a great show.  Just relax and enjoy.  Oceania has a house string quartet on each ship and a piano player.  On some cruises, a jazz guitar player may be onboard.

Sometimes, a small “jazz” combo from the regular onboard musicians will play in Horizons after Happy Hour. It really depends on the musical background/interest of the band onboard.

Can you tell me more about happy hour?  Is it in multiple locations or just one?  And it's 2 for 1?  Time?

In most lounges...Martinis (not valid  on the special martini menu), Horizons, etc.  5 to 6 pm. 2 for 1

Also in Horizons from 22:30 to 23:30. This is in conjunction with late night entertainment and fun lead by the CD.

There is a funny side to this. I’ve seen the Casino packed numerous times with the passengers having a great time. This normally happens after the show lets out at 22:15.  So the Casino may be rolling at 22:30-22:45. Meanwhile, one constantly sees posts saying how dead the Casino “ always “ is. When confronted with the above, there answer is most always the same as yours above.

 

One of the classic responses I remember hearing from a fellow cruiser when a group of us were reaping praise on an evening entertainer brought aboard : “ I haven’t seen the back side of 9:00 in 20 years, and surely won’t, to watch any entertainment on the ship.”

Related to the Casino...Is there a Crap table on Marina?  

Looks like I'll have to stay up to 22:30 for some action if there is!  If so, good to know the action will be short-lived!

We have been to the casino while the show is on & some cruises it is busy some not so much

It depends on your fellow cruisers  just like anything else  ...it is subjective 😉

 

Some rave about the food,  some ***** about the wine,  some complain about the entertainment,  some complain about what their fellow pax ages are & what time they retire in the evenings

Go do what suits you best ..each sailing will be different  just like opinions

One of the activities we enjoy on a cruise is stopping in the casino after the show.

It's one of the reasons we are trying Oceania for our next cruise, since Azamara has removed the casinos from their ships.

We’ve been saying same thing. The house string quartet and lounge piano player every night on every Riviera and Marina cruise is way too repetitious.  O has made changes to the menus in an endeavor to have some fresh choices…..time for the same regarding  music.

In 2014 O had a magician/mentalist engaging passengers in the bars and lounge areas before and after show……he was terrific and everyone thought it was fun and a lively addition. He appeared two evenings.  We hoped this would be permanent but never saw him again ☹️

Crystal has had a relationship with the Magic Castle of Los Angeles – a magician on every cruise.  That contract is now available if Oceania wants it...

Sometimes in Horizons... but not normally only rarely.    Sometimes a band in their too.. but most times records..      Evenings on O are , well sedate.    entertainment is around wine and dine experience and after that many go to their cabin to enjoy  it.      This you should be aware... the for the most part people , and that is YOU are the evening entertainment..
