Anyone on board Equinox now with January 9, 2022 sailing?

If I might ask, who is the CD currently on the Equinox? I'm trying to find what ship Eddy Jenkins is currently on or will be on in February. His last known ship according to a CC search was the Equinox back in October. He is one of our favorites and I was just wondering what ship he's currently on.

I just looked at the book of face, which I rarely do, his page seems to say he's headed back to NY for a break...just reading between the lines...

Shawna was CD when we were on Equinox in December.

Trays? I honestly don't recall ever seeing them on a Celebrity ship.. are you sure it was Celebrity? Now we have only been sailing them since '16

Yes, we've been sailing Celebrity since the 90's. Started on Zenith: 20+ cruises now. Perhaps it's my advanced years (and moderate appetite) that I never noticed the trays disappear. 🤪

We only started with Celebrity back in '16.. so they must have made a change as they remodeled. We have not been on M class..so perhaps they are laid out differently. Somehow trays doesn't fit the Celebrity brand... Now DH uses a cane and often someone on the crew will help him. But I agree that having someone serve you keeps you from loading the plate.

My father was an engineer and as a kid when we would go to a buffet he took pride in constructing a plate in such a way that he could stack food quite high.. and stable... was a sight to behold 🙂

Our second cruise, first Celebrity cruise was in 1994 on the Zenith.

Thanks so much for all the information.  We are booked on the January 30 sailing on Equinox.  We are on the fence as to whether we are going or not but reading this thread is encouraging us toward going.

We will see you on board!  As long as we pass our pre-cruise covid test that is!!  That is our only worry as you can catch this dang thing and not even know it - we are wearing KN95 masks absolutely everywhere, and trying not to go anywhere unnecessary.

Does anyone else remember back when they provided trays in the Oceanview and servers would carry them to the table after we had selected our food?  The first Celebrity ship I sailed on was the Zenith from New York to Bermuda in the 1990's, and we have been fans ever since.

I remember those days early in our cruising history. We first cruised with Celebrity on Galaxy March 2002 out of Baltimore.

I also remember the trays on the M- and now departed C-class ships.  Remember the "shelf" composed of rods in front of the food stations so folks could slide their trays down the buffet line?  Trays were removed around the time  Solstice, the first S-class ship, was introduced since the S-class ships also introduced the  buffet "island" concept.  Removing the trays was quite controversial for some and there were some heated comments on CC at the time.

Oh yes, I remember those. Maybe start a thread of all the old ways that are no longer around. Then we can date ourselves. lol.

Do folks also remember how controversial the introduction of Select dining in the MDR was at the time?  I mean -- the world just ended for some when another option other than two set Traditional dining times were introduced.

On our first several cruises on Celebrity someone (often a housekeeping  staff person) would actually escort folks to their staterooms -- even lower category staterooms.

And on the first formal night there was a gold foil box of four Cova chocolates left on the bed during the evening turndown service.

But I also think a number of really positive changes have been introduced, including Select dining (never understood why that was such an issue for some).  For instance, on our first cruise smoking was permitted on one side of the casino.  The non-smoking side was still rather smokey.  When the casinos became non-smoking there was again a chorus of outraged folks.

13+ pieces of cutlery at dinner and our server bringing a tray with all of the desserts displayed for us to choose from. That was our very first cruise, and the last time we had either experience...

This thread has turned into a trip down Celebrity Memory Lane.

I know the memories are fun to share but perhaps a new thread for that would be better. Maybe someone can start one which would be an entertaining thread. This isn't the right place to continue talking about memories (although fun I know).

Meanwhile we want to get back to hearing from people on the current Equinox cruise because some of us are getting ready to cruise very soon and want to know what to expect.

Also those of us who were booked on this sailing but decided to cancel based on covid reports from previous sailings. Glad to hear so far things are good for those currently on board. Hope for their sake we made the wrong decision!

Noticed you're from Delaware. Anywhere near the shore??

Captain announced during dinner that a few crew tested positive during routine testing. They are quarantined and any people traced have been tested and are all negative. There are no passengers involved. Oh well, I knew it would happen eventually. Tomorrow is another port day.  P. S. We were not turned away from St. Croix. The protocol changed. St. Martin was a better port anyway.
