Complimentary Coco Beach Club Cabana

Recommended Posts

We are lucky to be cruising with Diamond plus Brother and Sister In Law at the end of the month. Apparently they were comped a Cabana almost 2 months ago for our 10/30 sailing. Is this something that normally happens? They are allowed 8 people total. Seems like a very generous gift considering they are sold out for our day at Coco Bay. They were also upgraded from Junior Suite to Grand Suite. We are Gold so no perks for us worth celebrating but looking forward to a relaxing cruise.

Yay! That will be a wonderful perk!!

Since I have never heard of that, let me throw this out:

I recall a time when my (WAY) more affluent sibling told me they had been ‘comped’ something so I didn’t feel the need to chip in. Found out later that the sibling fibbed, but I was still very grateful!

This is what I was thinking.  Don't think they'd comp a cabana, but I'm guessing this is what OP was thinking also.  Thus the reason for asking.

That was the first thing I thought of

Diamond plus get a room upgrade if that is available, so that upgrade makes sense. They are not big gamblers. She wouldn't drop more than $100 in the Casino. She was going to call on it but was afraid they would take it away. It shows as a charge but they never charged her credit card. She can't even attempt to Royal up this cruise I sent her the link. She did Royal up in the Spring with her Daughter on a 10 Day Mediterranean cruise. She is going to call on it to put her mind at ease.

This gives me a chuckle. Trust me they would never pay $1538 for a cabana for one day. It shows up on her account as a credit for $1538 which in her words "That's Crazy!"

You beat me to it, I should have read the whole thread first. Did she actually show you that it shows up on her account as a credit, or did she just tell you that it did? Because if you didn't see it with your own eyes, I think this is the most likely story.

Also, what I thought immediately. Let's face it, Diamond Plus members (me included) are a dime a dozen. I would guess it's a generous and humble gesture.

Never heard of D+ being comped a cabana, maybe casino comp?

Maybe they did a royal up to grand suite?  Or casino upgrade if they are big players.

You will love the cabana.

I’m sure this has zero to do with D+.  Probably a mistake given the OPs follow up posts.  Will be interesting to see what happens.

If it shows up as a charge and the cruise is fully paid off, I’d leave well enough alone. If the cruise is not paid off yet, the credit card can still get charged or the cruise can get cancelled when final payment date has passed if that charge is still outstanding.

I am not aware of Diamond Plus getting free room upgrades to a grand suite.

Last year when ships were sailing at 30% there were upgrades but those days are long gone now that ships have been at 100% since earlier thus year.

Definitely do not get a cabana for free just for being a D+   sounds more like royal made an error in giving her a credit and not charging her card.

Unless she had $1500 in OBC for some reason unknown to us.

Cruise has to be paid off as the sail date is 10.30

Like you said I would just leave it be and see what happens once they board and see if they truly have a free cabana

Well I got my Sister In Law all nervous so she called Royal Caribbean and made sure she had a zero balance and she does. They did say she lucked out with the room upgrade because they don't do that anymore because of Royal Up. She did not ask about Cabana because she didn't want it to go away. I've traveled with them a lot over the years and am very close to them, we always do same excursions so us saying no to something doesn't happen. But she would never pay that much for cabana. They have been loyal customers for close to 20 years, traveling all over the world. They have around 375 Cruise points. I will update after our cruise.

I look forward to hearing "the rest of the story".  😉

OMG!!  Please, please, please let's hope that Pinnacle Lady we read about in another thread, that cut the line in Windjammer -- simply by flashing her pin-- not ever read this thread because I think she will implode and take out anyone living in a ten mile radius!

OP, the responses on this thread are why one should practice ultimate discretion when it comes to comps and special perks.

  • 5 weeks later...

Just wanted to give an update to Complimentary Coco Beach Club Cabana! It was legit and my Brother & Sister In Law were not charged for it. They are Diamond Plus members, the same cruise they paid for a junior suite but were also upgraded to a grand 1 bedroom suite (but was told by RC this probably will not happen in the future). They always book all their cruises through Costco. Coco Beach Cabana was our best day. Food and service was amazing. It was just very relaxing and chill. If I could split the cost with 6+ people I would pay for this in the future. I would just consider it an all day excursion. We wanted to spend another day here.

Nice photos.  Agree Coco Cay is like an excursion.

By the way, I'm D+ with 418 points and haven't even smelled any cabin upgrade in all of my years or even a day bed on Coco Cay.

Got a couple of free cruises (one is coming up in February an 8 niter on Anthem) via Casino Royale, but not from Royal.

Huh?  How do they do this?  I'm not a member of Costco, but do they have a travel agency?

Looks fantastic.  Glad you had a great time.
