We've also done the train to taxi or Uber many times for NYC cruises.   Quite easy.   We ask to get dropped off at 12th & 48th-ish (where the light is) instead of bothering to go up to the turnaround at 55th.  Cross 12th ave at the light.

-----------------------------

For pickups back to wherever you need to go, even private rides we have pick us up outside the terminal on 12th Avenue or a corner spot.   I prefer to be out of the chaos once a ship is unloading thousands of peeps.

Great Advice!

When debarking, make sure you take a NYC TAXI not a Gypsie ride. They come up to you when you cross 12th Ave. I was quoted $50 to Penn Station. Taxi fare about $15 plus tip.

We'll be taking the train from Newark to NY Penn. Can someone tell me how to direct the lyft/uber driver? What pier does Carnival leave from? Anyone know?

88. It's next to the Intrepid.

I'm going to advise you to just grab a traditional yellow taxi.  They have a taxi stand outside Penn in multiple locations. Follow the overhead signs in the terminal. Trying to grab an uber in the mess of taxis there is challenging. It's trying to find your uber and them finding a place they can pull over for you.  We've learned just to go with a taxi from the taxi stand there over the years.

Not sure if anyone mentioned taking Greyhound to Penn Station.  We have done this several times from the Cherry Hill area and it's reasonably priced and the taxi fare to port is also inexpensive.

Are you sure Penn Station not the PA Bus Terminal (42nd St & Eighth Ave). Also is the Cherry Hill station the one at RT73 and the Turnpike? Parking Fees?

Oops!  I meant to say the Greyhound bus goes into the Port Authority terminal on 8th avenue.  From there it's almost walkable to the cruise terminal if you weren't carrying luggage.  It is a very short cab ride to the terminal.

The terminal in Mount Laurel on route 73 closed awhile ago and it was free.  Then they were leaving out of the Clarion on rt. 73 and now they are not doing that either.   The last time I left out of a NY port was before covid and Carnival had moved to Brooklyn at the last minute.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise!

Thanks. We usually don't have an issue with uber or lyft when we go into the city. But I'll see what happens. Thanks for the tip.

Anybody on the TA from Barcelona May 29?  Casino offer right now is cheaper than free for that 15-day cruise (OBC + Casino Cash > $100 fare + port fees and taxes).  I'll already be in Europe May 1 - May 29 so it's tempting on one hand, but hard to imagine being away from the dogs and ferrets that long.  Easy to imagine losing a bunch in the casino on a TA though.

We have taken the train to Penn many times the a taxi about 20.00 with tip. This trip in Aug. may be a challenge getting back to the train to come back to Boston. Last trip the train were not running and a lovely couple in the cabin next to us helped us extremely. When we couldn't get a bus back and neither could they he had a smart phone and got us a rental. We split it and he drove us home not to Logan with them to turn in the car. Not sure how to book an uber maybe will just have TA deal with getting us to Penn.

WOW!!!  I attended when it was still all girl junior college. Yes, Dr. Wylie was president.  I was in Trexler Hall right next to College Hall.  1973---graduated in 1975 but I met a lot of "townies" and went up for long weekends for a few years.  Such a beautiful area- marblehead, Salem, Rockport....I loved it!  Hopefully I'll see you on board.  I'm cruising solo.  I live about 20 minutes from Port of Manhattan.

I will be on the TA, love the ports of call.  Did the TA on the Celebration from Southampton last  Nov,was an amazing cruise, especially with Lee the cruise director.

Is it difficult to get a cab after the cruise to LGA?  Two people + luggage?

the only difficulty is crossing the street from the terminal to the taxi stand. lots of taxis and cabs is around the text stand area
