memoak Posted March 24, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2023 We are currently on the Emerald 15 day canal cruise. We used home tests on day 6 on general principles even though we had no symptoms. I tested positive and my wife negative. She is still testing negative one day later. Rules are I must isolate for 5 days my wife can come and go but must take her meals in the room. They say she does not need to test anymore unless she has symptoms. I am free to leave after 5 days with no more tests. I have a slight stuffy nose and that is about it. Though people might want to know the current situation. We both had covid in August and all of our boosters. It is much better service now than when we quarantined on the Royal 3

Rare JimmyVWine Posted March 24, 2023 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2023 (edited) It’s a PSA. No question asked. No response required. But that won’t stop this thread from veering into the realms of tipping, (do you tip the people who bring your meals to you in your cabin); dress codes (if you have to eat dinner in your cabin on formal night, what attire is acceptable); and special desserts (can you get them delivered to your cabin?). And I am certain that someone will eventually ask the OP if they had Plus-50 and if so, we’re they charged extra for $14 glasses of wine. Just saying. memoak Posted March 24, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted March 24, 2023 You automatically get FCC’s for the 5 days in isolation and port fees return for ports you could not leave the ship for. I will contact my CVP to get the FCC quicker but those are all I would expect and it is in writing 5

Rare Fa-Li Posted March 24, 2023 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2023 @memoak that was incredibly kind of you to self test and report the positive, even when you felt fine. You may have saved someone else from a much worse experience. 12

Samkitty1 Posted March 24, 2023 #16 Share Posted March 24, 2023 I was on a 7 day cruise on the Sky at the end of January, my first after 5 years. I am vaccinated and boosted, and had not had covid before. I felt a little off on Thursday afternoon day 6 of the cruise. At that point I thought that I had gotten too much sun in Mexico, however, as the night progressed the i developed a cough and sore throat and felt sicker. My husband obtained a test from a friend the next morning and we both tested posative. We did alert the medical center. They sent a team member up to check on us an to do their own test, which confirmed the posative result. We were advised to quarantine in the cabin and to call them if necessary, and to order room service for our means. We were able to order from the dining room menu. Later on, a letter was slipped under the door indicating that each of us would receive a future cruise credit of $44.00 each, which would be applied to our Captain Circle accounts within 30 days. The next morning was disembarkation day. We were allowed a room service breakfast because we could not go to the buffet...at 8:00 AM Princess security escorted us off the ship, and we were in our car driving home by 8:15. Princess staff was professional and kind while this was going on. Covid can be very serious for some people, however we were very lucky and recovered quickly without lasting issues. We have a big anniversary cruise scheduled at the end of May, and considered cancelling, but have decided to go ahead, but plan to do more to mitigate the risk. We only booked shore excursions and hotels that are cancellable, just in case we need to quarantine again. I reserved table for 2 for dining. (We love meeting people, but on our last cruise 2 people at our table told us they had sore throats and didn't come to dinner one night, so we think we may have picked it up there) We plan to mask in crowded areas as well as tour busses and elevators and on the airplane. I also selected a trip insurance policy that covers medivac, emergency medical care and reimbursement for quarantine hotel just in case we do get it again. My big takeaway from the experience is that Covid might be less of a threat than previously, but it is not over quite yet. . 10
Kabuki12 Posted March 25, 2023 #17 Share Posted March 25, 2023 I got Covid on a Celebrity Cruise and was very sick. I had to get a hotel room for 5 days in Fort Lauderdale for 5 days. I have cruise insurance through the Celebrity site with Aon. I'm filing a claim now but do not see anywhere on the policy that they pay for hotel fees to quarantine and recover. Does anyone have experience with this? As far as Covid protocol, Celebrity is the same as Princess. Isolation in room and able to order off the MDR. I did go to medical the night before with a broken rib from a horseback riding excursion and had 102 degree temp. I tested negative but they had me come back the next morning and I tested positive. I was not offered FCC's.

Starshine95123 Posted March 25, 2023 #19 Share Posted March 25, 2023 Hubby tested positive on day 5 on our 15 day cruise, which we’re still currently on. (Royal Princess, 3/12-27). We wore masks everywhere, except while eating. Hubby didn’t wear it one time in the elevator. I was always listening out for coughing, sneezing, sniffling when out in public. We’re both vaccinated and triple boosted. The first day he had symptoms (fever, sore throat, stuff/runny nose) we went to medical to be tested. (I forgot to pack tests…as well as my phone, he forgot a hose for his cpap. These are things we never forget lol) We are isolated in our room. Three days after we began isolation I started with the same symptoms and tested positive. Not a big surprise to me. He’s officially out of isolation, I’m a few days behind. Hoping I get out tomorrow and can have a few days to move about the ship. Royal Princess has treated us very well. Medical calls at least once a day, Guest Services calls everyday to see if we need anything, Room Service has been excellent too. They even sent a special team to clean our room! We can order off the Main Dining Room/ Specialty DR menus and even the bars at no charge. We are eating better than we would have at home. We will each get FCCs for our days in isolation. I’ll check at Guest Services about getting all the paperwork (medical, FCCs) tomorrow when (hopefully) I get out of isolation. 6

Different cruise lines use different insurers and probably sell different policies even if some use the same insurers. (Not certain because I buy an annual travel policy.) You can't assume all are similar because like all insurance, the devil is in the details of exactly each will cover. Before relying too much on what someone says here, I would read your insurance documents. Assuming you didn't require additional medical care after the cruise, you are looking for Trip Interruption and/or Travel Delay coverage for covered reasons of Illness and/or Quarantine. If your policy includes those capitalized terms, you'll need to understand how it defines them in order to know if your circumstances apply. I was able to drive directly home from the port, so did not need to use a hotel..so no experience .... but my next cruise is in Europe, so if I get unlucky again, return home will be more complicated. I wanted a travel policy that offer primary coverage for urgent medical care, medivac and also trip interruption. I went to a few on line trip insurance websites and was able to compare policies and covereage on line. Once I had narrowed my focus to three possible companies, I used the chat feature to ask the agent a couple of questions. memoak Posted March 25, 2023 Author #24 Share Posted March 25, 2023 Update - Day 3 of isolation and my fever broke last night feeling so much better and ready to leave isolation and get back to normal on Tuesday. One note when I had covid on the Royal in August it felt like we were dumped into covid jail and forgotten. Here in the Emerald it is night and day. Many calls asking how I am flowers just delivered from Guest Services. Steward still checks in to see how I am doing. Ready to go back to the grill, bars, MDR and casino on Tuesday. All kudos to the ship staff 7

Couldn't you have just isolated on your own?
