Pier 29 Port Everglades

I don't understand why Pier 29 is being used so much for Celebrity cruises on the Reflection. This coming Sunday there are only 5 ships in port with the Reflection using out of the way pier 29. We live in Florida and always drive to the various ports in the Sunshine State but we hate Pier 29 as we have to take a shuttle bus from the mid-port garage. With only 5 ships in port why inconvenience passengers when it's not necessary.

It's not just ships when you depart, but when you arrive back. There could be way more ships in port then. And then, someone also would be inconvenienced by having to take a shuttle because they parked at a different pier. Agree Pier 29 is horrible, but it's not the end of the world. You'll be on the ship soon after arriving.

We return to PE on April 9th and there are  again only 5 ships in port so that theory doesn’t work, Yeah, it’s not the worst thing in the world but it’s still inconvenient.

It's not how many ships are in dock that day it's how many celebrity ships are in port. if 18 and 25 are occupied then they go to 29. I think. We have left from 25 and came back to 29 or 18 many times.

Pier 21 is available both on April 2nd and 9th when we return, looks like Celebrity lacks some clout. One day last week there were 3 HAL ships in port and none had to dock at 29. The solution of course if 29 is going to be constantly used is to build a parking lot close to the pier.

Sometimes things are as they are.  I would assume Celebrity and other lines hold contacts with the port  for specific piers. If you’re that against that pier, maybe cruise another ship that docks at a pier more to your liking.

With respect, this is likely a much more complex question than anybody here on Cruise Critic can truly answer- unless they are a port agent at Port Everglades and they know scheduling, port nuances, fees, deliveries, a multitude of factors.  Where you have to park and shuttle is probably far down on the list.

It sure looks that way, as I said it’s not a major issue but it is an inconvenience and something  we will live with.

I believe Pier 29 "belongs" to Celebrity. That's where Celebrity ships will always go.

T29 is one that is not exclusively used by any one line. HAL uses 29 frequently this season. Many of the terminals have exclusive use agreements (like you won't see Princess using T25, the updated T4 will be Disney only, etc.) Just because one terminal is open on a given day doesn't mean another cruise line can jump in there because it's convenient.

Port Everglades Terminal 2: Princess Cruise Lines

Port Everglades Terminal 4: Disney Cruise Line

Port Everglades Terminal 18: Royal Caribbean

Port Everglades Terminal 19: Holland America Line

Port Everglades Terminal 21: Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruise Lines

Port Everglades Terminal 25: Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean

Port Everglades Terminal 26: Holland America Line

Port Everglades Terminal 29: Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, Royal Caribbean

When we sailed on Reflection last month we left from pier 29. Beyond was at pier 25. When we returned the following week we docked at pier 18. A HAL ship was at pier 29. Beyond was at pier 25. We sailed on Beyond two weeks later and left and returned to pier 25.
