I don't think that it is how much more a gambler will spend.

I think that it is how many more gamblers X will attract.

If you look at the off strip casinos in Vegas they are super smoky.  The off strip casinos are where the odds are better than the strip casinos and the gamblers hang out.  Some residents come rather close to living in them.  Sure they go home at night,  but eat and gamble all day there.  Who would have thought that one addiction would lead to multiple ...

Anyways I think that they are trying to get more gamblers vs having a gambler spend more.  And many smoke.

I don't smoke and would prefer a smokeless casino.  I also gamble very little.

The Blue Chip message quoted in earlier posts said  - our Players have told us being able to vape would enhance our casino experience - this can only apply to current players.

The current trial is also 100% focused on passengers who booked when the "no vaping rules" applied so again the emphasis is on current players not on attracting new passengers.

I bet if you also asked smokers, who is going to say “no I don’t want to smoke in the casino”?

Once they attract more vapors because of the vaping in the casino you can bet they will be vaping all over the ship.  I see it now how they ‘sneak’ a vape but eventually have to let the vapor out and there’s no place for it to go.  I will try new cruise lines but knowing they allow smoking in the casino I will just not gamble.  I won’t go back to Celebrity because I just don’t want to give them my money knowing they don’t need my loyalty.  I have 2 cruises booked with friends I will keep.  If they implement this new rule that will be it after 45 cruises with them.   I will miss the crew very much, some have become friends.

Hopefully you have made these great points direct to X.

We don't smoke anything and do not know of any regular tobacco smokers, however, living in Southern California, we do know of a bunch of people who smoke and/or vape weed.  Makes me wonder if these players are expecting to vape weed (seen/smelt passengers sneaking a weed vape hit on X before) at the casino and what X's enforcement of vaping weed would be, if anything

But isn't everything these days all about a small but vocal group getting their way in everything?  The majority seems to no longer be a factor.  Broadcast and social media and marketing and corporations and governments all seem to cater to the small vocal groups over the majority.  I am accustomed to this these days.  So it would be no surprise if the vaping minority on ships gets their way.

You are absolutely right, TR. Some small groups present valid vocal outcries and are long overdue to be heard. Others, not so much. This Celebrity consideration has no validity whatsoever and deserves no discussion, although it is getting a lot of that.

If casino vaping goes fleetwide, the next evolution will be X's shops selling vaping products

You could be right but I wouldn't bet money on it (see what i did there 🙂) because I know many smokers that won't smoke in their own house or car 🤔  I smoked many years ago and I can't see me doing that but it's different times.

I sent an e mail to the Exec office given and got a reply that the test on the Eclipse would end Oct 20th.  Unfortunately our sailing is October 1st.  I was really looking forward to gambling on board but I will not sit next to someone who is vaping.  I guess I will get to see first hand how many vapers there actually are on board.  "If" only 18% of Americans smoke (according to Alexa) and only 5% of Americans cruise (same source) a smoke free casino would seem to have very little impact on Premium expensive cruise company like Celebrity. I think there are a lot of us who gamble that put value on a smoke free casino.  Certainly not all gamblers smoke.  I may be cancelling some of my Blue Chip reservations if there is a permanent change.

If you're thinking you're done with X if the test becomes permanent, why not keep the sailing and not gamble?

That's a lot longer than 8 weeks!

Most have said the trial is due to finish on 20 August.

Actually gambling and cruising go together for me.  I am Elite+ and I don't care so much about most of the on board activities anymore.  The same old games standing in the hallway "entertainment court" and music trivia do not do it for me.  I gamble for entertainment but there are  land based casinos with non smoking policies( Blackhawk CO and New Orleans LA) that offer much better odds than cruises.  I think I would give up cruising before I gave up gambling because I gambled before I ever cruised.  I realize this is not a widely shared opinion.

I received a call from The Retreat.  They documented my concerns and that I expect a refund of deposits so I can move our sailings to DCL if this becomes permanent.  Further, I have asthma and my Doctor wouldn’t sign off on inhaling vape when playing my nightly craps.

They said they have a master list of feedback and they added my comments.  There are apparently younger people that like to vape and IN PART it appeared it could be geared to attracting a younger demographic, in addition to gamblers.

Was told someone else might reach out if OK.  I explained this isn’t personal and I’m happy to switch my X sailings to DCL if they want to continue in this direction.  DCL wouldn’t be moving towards pro-vaping and are adding things to attract parents with kids that have grown up.  My cruise dollars are fungible, so no worries.

Here is what I don't understand.  I wrote to Celebrity complaining about the vaping in the Casino, and got a reply that it is "only" a test till August 20.   But I leave on the Equinox on the 19th of August.  What are they going to do - allow vaping the first night on the ship and then shut it down the next day?  Or since the ship shoved off before the 20th, that the entire cruise will be permitted to have vaping for the duration?

Eclipse's turnaround day is August 20. I would assume the test ends on the 19th for Equinox and the 20th for Eclipse.

it is sad Celebrity is prioritizing revenue at the expense of the health and well being of their guest and employees

They've been doing exactly that for some time. Allowing vaping is just another brick in the wall.

You’re saying anything Celebrity might have said about filtration is not true?

You do realize air quality in cruise ships is considered bad?  Exhaust gases, chemicals and tobacco smoke all find their way into interior spaces and X does not even use HEPA filters...You're not wrong but the impact is a drop the bucket
