The Fleet Report and Daily for Saturday July 8th, 2023

Good afternoon and Happy Saturday from a toasty Tucson where it is 103F with 16% humidity.  I agree with @Nickelpenny that if the humidity is over 20% it’s yucky.

I will pass on motorcycles. I rode on one once and hated it, Craig had a bad accident as a teen, and I witnessed a horrible accident once that left me shaken. So no way!

 I like blueberries, especially baked.

So happy to hear Baby Murphy is stable after such a scary mechanical problem. I have been worried and saying extra prayers.

Have a great day everyone!

I finished the wet-sock treatment last night. It may have done some good. The treatment itself is not as unpleasant as it sounded; having cold, wet socks on my feet didn't feel bad at all. On the other hand, the process of putting wet socks on, and of putting other socks on over them, is very difficult. There was a reason that they used to wet the tablecloths on ships during rough weather.

Do you remember that I retired a week ago? A few days later I received email from a head-hunting firm inviting me to interview for a job at Cornell that I would have been interested in 30 years ago. I wonder what their source of information was. I stopped working in that field in 1996.

As of right now, I have no idea if I have a campaign to work or not.  I need to remind my boss, that if i am not working, i will be forced to clean my house!

It was sunny this morning, but now after a brief shower it's like a sauna.  Furnando cat loves being on the porch.  At night he has been sleeping along my spine sucking body warmth off me.  But heck, it makes the spine feel better.

I have had carpel tunnel, it's what made me give up my musical career.  Practicing guitar and writing songs 8 hours a day, and then performing at night for 2-4 hours.   Whatever this is, doesn't feel like what i had before.  BUT it was circled on my chart at the therapist. I talk to my lung doc in a month, while he will have the results in to his office by now, he is not the type to tell me anything over the phone.  And there is a bit of a language barrier.

I'm still stuck on body painting- henna is nice, I think i could do that, I hope it washes off after a while, I once came up with an idea of pouring paint all over my self, and rolling down a hill on a large canvas.....Dh didnt want me to scare the neighbors, i would have done it at night...just scare the raccoons.

Good afternoon.  I was finished in record time with the yard work, mainly because I didn't need to mow the part of the yard that wasn't watered and had turned brown.  After I showered, we went to Waco to get DH's phone fixed.  It needs a new screen.  The guy said he thought it would take about two hours, so we decided not to head home as that would take an hour each way.  At the two hour mark when we were on the other side of town, we called before heading back to pick up the phone.  It was taking longer and would be another two hours.  We said we'd get it Monday, but now it will probably be Tuesday since we're going to Waco then anyway.

We appreciate everyone's good wishes for DH to have the nph fixed soon.  The procedure was delayed last year because of the back surgery.  By the time the nph started causing problems again, it took almost two months for an appointment.   Now that things are in the works, it should take no more than a month or two to get the shunt put in if that is what they determine is needed.  Like most things involving specialists, it's hurry up and wait.

I'll skip the body painting and I have no intention of riding a motorcycle.

I have a mostly undeserved reputation for French cooking, and a friend asked me to plan a menu for Bastille Day and provide recipes. For the dessert I recommended a blueberry clafoutis, since blueberries are in season and it's easy to make. The rest of the menu is probably more complicated than she probably wanted, and possibly too heavy for July for health-conscious people (yoga teacher and physician), but French portions, in multi-course meals, are smaller than American portions.

If the pad thai really took only ten minutes, and if I had the ingredients, I'd make it. I could do without the cocktail but might like the wine. The first few times I had Malbec as a varietal, from Argentina, it struck me as thin and overly tannic, but that is not really typical. It's one of the grapes allowed in a Bordeaux blend or a Meritage. It used to be thought that Malbec wouldn't ripen in the Finger Lakes, but here is a 2021 Malbec from Thirsty Owl, on the shore of Cayuga Lake, which was the first Finger Lakes winery to grow it. I haven't been to Omaezaki and it wasn't on the Japan itinerary that was cancelled in 2021.

I was only virtual for the synagogue today, because my digestion is upset and, with a conference presentation in a week, I don't want to risk catching anything that I don't already have. I added Baby Murphy to the prayer list.

Yesterday I ordered new sneakers for the conference, which is on a university campus with a lot of walking between buildings, because none that I had seemed to fit any longer.

Paul, I hope you feel better soon.

Good  morning and thanks all. Glad to hear baby Murphy is holding her own!  DH had a fully chopped Harley Sportster so that was a lot of fun, but boy did we get the looks!

I appreciate all the kind words of support!

@kazu glad to hear Ivan is back on the couch, now let’s get him and your elbow the rest of the way!

@Quartzsite Cruiser hoping your DH can  get the treatment needed, such a long haul!

@RedneckBobappreciate your insight, lol!

@ger_77 sounds like a lot of fun, too bad you weren’t closer!

We’ve been to that area of Japan, but it was the port of Shimuzu so I’ll share a few photos of the area.  They grow tea there and there is a wonderful temple that you have to take a cable car to get to.  It is also near to Mount Fuji.

Hi friends! Thanks for all the good wishes about my procedure yesterday. However, the outcome wasn't what I had hoped for. The dr. found several polyps - one on the large side - so now I will have another colonoscopy in a year. So much for my hopes to be done, but I guess I'm glad they're being thorough. Pathology report won't be available for a week or two.

Talked to my new PCC yesterday, the one that replaced J---- who I loved dearly. Well, I must say I was really impressed with the time he took to help me figure out how to switch my Alaska booking from 2024 to 2025. I think I've got a keeper!

I realized a few days ago that my volunteer commitment for 2024 meant that I couldn't do the 28-day Summer Solstice cruise, but thanks to CC I learned that the 2025 itinerary is now available, so I switched. Prices are a little higher, but I expected that.

Prayers for Baby Murphy and all the others on the Care list. Yay for all those celebrating! Have a good day!

Edi, I'm glad they found the polyps before they became cancerous.  I'm also glad you could change your cruise to 2025, and now have a great PCC.

Still look in on this thread occasionally, checking in today 'cause it's National Motorcycle Day!

I've had three of them, here's a picture of my favorite.  Her name was Brunnhilde and we went all over the US and Canada together.  Umm, I probably can't post here WHY her name is Brunnhilde but some of you know me personally and are FB friends or FB messaging friends.  So if you're curious about her name you can PM me on Facebook.

I have enjoyed a few motorcycles.  Started with a Honda 90 and worked up to a 750 that I used to commute from our home in Berkeley to my ship in Long Beach.  Had the street 90 when we were living in Navy housing in Long Beach in the 60's.  Used to park it on the lawn in front of our housing unit.  One day the shore patrol came by and said "You can't park a motor vehicle on your lawn."  So we put a small rug in the living room and I parked it there every night when I got home.  When we were transferred to the San Francisco area I asked the moving people if I could ship my motorcycle.  They said no, can't ship a motorcycle.  I then said, "How about motorcycle parts?"  They replied, "No problem."  So I removed and drained the gas tank and took off the front wheel.  The moving company was happy to ship the "motorcycle parts".  Never tried to break the rules, just figure a way around them.

Good still warm and muggy evening.

Father David’s message is now on YouTube.

@grapau27, I believe you mentioned his birthday is coming up this week. Please wish him birthday wishes from me.

@Cruzin Terri, enjoy your day in Kirkwall. I hope the weather is better than predicted. There’s a wonderful jewelry designer there, Sheila Fleet, her designs are all about Scotland. I had the pleasure of meeting her 2 times.

Stormy weather is predicted here for tomorrow with flood warnings in effect from noon onward.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I knew that the cats had been venturing out more and farther, but I still hadn't seen one until tonight, when Mona Lisa (I think) ran past me while I was watching television.

The show was Dr. Pol and they were, of course, examining a cat.
