Port fees refunded for missed ports ?

Papa, we are using shipboard credits to “pay” for our small group excursions. These are from Regent and are non refundable but I assume if a Regent excursion is cancelled we would get those non refundable credits back to our shipboard account to be used for some other service like the SPA or pay for upgraded wine.

I can't say 100% but I am fairly confident you'll get the OBC to use on the ship.  But if you use non-refundable OBC then it would likely be credited back as "non-refundable" OBC so you'll have to use it.  But honestly... it was a "gift" of some sort anyway, and how many excursions that you've upgraded have been cancelled?  Seems you're making an issue out of a rare event.

Ah, in my scenario we paid by cc not obc.

I am just asking a question. I don’t think it’s fair to immediately assume that I am making a big issue out of it. Most people just provide an answer to a question, like rcandkc did, without passing judgement about the poster’s response. And if you look at Gilly’s post, they have already missed 2 ports because of weather. It happens and I understand it happens for a variety of reasons. I was just asking what happens to the OBC’s used for excursions in the event that the tour doesn’t happen.

Our experience after many days on Regent with a fair share of missed ports is you get the extra cost tours credited back to your account within a day. We always go on a shopping spree the last day the shops are open to spend any non refundable credit we have left. We cash out any refundable usually giving some to the crew fund. I bought a beautiful pruse in Jan.

I'm not passing judgement, just expressing an opinion.  Sorry if you felt that way.

Doubt it's a "windfall" when you consider the additional cost of an extra day at sea (fuel, alcohol, food, etc.).

Yes but offset by spa bookings, casino being open, shops likely open, etc.

I have never been on any cruise line with a cancelled port, and there have been a bunch, where port fees were refunded.

Seabourn refunds port fees for missed ports. It's not a huge windfall, and doesn't make up for disappointment of missing a port you were highly anticipating, but it's a nice gesture to not profit from our misfortune. In fact, on our most recent Seabourn cruise, there was one port where we were switched from being docked to being anchored in the harbor and using tenders — and we got a refund for port fees since we weren't docked at the port.

In the UK we can get travel insurance that covers you for missed ports of call.

Interesting.  How do they value a missed port?  Do they refund the cost per day of the cruise for that day?  Or just some fixed amount per missed day?

In the case of our insurance it is a fixed amount: “……£150 for each port stop shown on your schedule that is cancelled by the cruise operator after your vessel has left the first port

And what happens if the cruise substitutes a different port than the one originally scheduled?

I doubt that a substitution would be considered as a cancellation, but have never felt the need to make a claim

Six years ago in USA I purchased a Nationwide Luxury Cruise Insurance package.  It paid $1250 per person when Regent changed itinerary after final payment but before sailing.  As Regent changed Korean ports we pocketed the $1250 per person.  I would think that Nationwide stopped that policy with all of the COVID changes.
