For those who sail out of NYC on NCL in the winter months .. Fuhgeddaboudit, yeah I got caught up with Devito mania.

NYC for us is an easy 2hr ride down the river, the cost to park at the pier will give you sticker shock but super convenient. It used to be at times several ships deployed in the winter months, 10 / 12 day itineraries ( even had several coast-to-coast cruises on the Gem before Covid ).

Other changes include the Escape to NOLA and the Viva going to Texas.

most likely the Norwegian Jade will be doing the winter cruises out of NYC based on the press released. Its nice to finally see a small jewel class ship out of NYC again

edit:

the new sailings is now live. Breakaway is doing the winter cruises from November 2025 to April 2026. Jade is doing at least 1 cruise out of NYC, a one way reposition from NYC to Tampa

I suppose NCL wants us NY'ers to try out MSC. Don't tempt me NCL. I might just try out Yacht Club. And what if I like it?

Noticing Haven prices are roughly $800 - $1,000 more per person on those 2026 sailings. That's no 2 - 3% increase per year. NCL expects inflation to keep on charging full speed ahead I suppose.

Wake me up in December, 2025. I'll book then.

Already did that and loved it, we have booked the Yacht Club interior for 1/25.

Oh, I watched that review with great interest! It's one of the reasons I'm considering MSC.

I jumped ship too.....tried the YC once and I have 2 more booked.

I never did the Haven...but when you compare the price and the benefits of YC, it's a no brainer.

While we don’t live in NY, it is actually one of the easiest and less expensive ports for us to leave out of.  So we would like more options for sure.  We tried MSC this summer, and thoroughly enjoyed our short trial cruise.  I just wish the MSC itinerary out of Brooklyn was more exciting.

NYC  has become the "Red Headed Step Child" port For years. Wasn't too long ago that there was always two ships here year round . I guess the bean counter figure those ships can be more profitable elsewhere ? No worries MSC has some great Winter itineraries in 2025. This Feb. on Getaway next Winter on Meraviglia

As for the cost to park, we have found it less expensive to just take the bus to New York City.

Sorry to have led your topic astray @JIMESOPUS! But, gosh! I'm looking through all the included items in Yacht Club. We'd save more than $1,300 just in the beverage package, WiFi, and thermal suite inclusions alone. Gotta get the husband to just try out a sailing from NYC. We need a spring break....right??? *fingers, toes, arms, and legs crossed*

One week, in March, for under $6,000!!!

Other things....breakfast and lunch buffets at the pool, customized pizza delivery, restaurant open on port days, butlers work as a team..so if yours isn't available...there'll be another one who can help, snacks put out all day (chocolate from their chocolate factory), evening entertainment in the Top Sail Lounge.   As I said...it's a no brainer.

According to DH...the freshly grilled fish at the lunch buffet was worth the cost alone.

I wish they had two ships again. it sucks they only have one  ship during the summer that only goes to bermuda. i wish they was another ship that does the Bahamas or Caribbean cruises like what they use to do before

Not sure what's going on behind the scenes. Perhaps NCL feels like it can command higher fares sailing elsewhere ? Perhaps the cost of provisioning is higher in NYC. Winter cruises cannot provision in Port Canaveral if they aren't stopping there. Maybe officials in other states are doing more to entice NCL to sail there with shiny new terminals ? It's a business I get it...

Me too. I'm happy Breakaway is one of them as I really enjoy her sister ship, Getaway which had been one of the two, along with Gem back in 2022. I'm not a fan of small ships, so seeing Dawn didn't excite me. I could see myself on Breakaway and appreciate the courtyard has a retractable roof. I've definitely sat in Getaway's hot tubs for a very short period on the return to Manhattan in the middle of winter. It's not quite the experience I wanted.

So yeah…I’m going to continue to steer this topic off course…sorry @JIMESOPUS.

I admit it’s been a minute since I checked out MSC.  And, for those who keep up with my posts, I have ranted a little on how most of NCL European cruises are 10+ days…which for various reasons doesn’t work for us.

Well…I just completed an MSC booking for Nov. ‘24.  7 nights, Barcelona-Marseille-Genoa-Civitavecchia-Palermo-Valleta-Barcelona on their newest ship World Europa.   We chose Fantastica experience, Deluxe Balcony oceanview which includes Easy Plus drink package (which includes coffee and water), free unlimited internet for two devices, $50 OBC.  Total cost with $210 travel insurance is $2816.64.  (that price includes a 5% or 10% discount after being status matched from NCL platinum to MSC Gold).

And…we just may well do a YC upgrade bid when that offer comes along.

Sorry NCL🥲

NCL will probably come to feel sorry and regret their "strategic" ship deployment plans ahead (lack thereof) for 2024-25-26, both summer & winter.  After a while, we are get tired of the milky Bermuda and Bahamas runs with their choice of ship(s) for the NY and Northeast market.

Just talking to our friends that often sail NCL with the CAS program and discounts - none ahead, the partnership with land-based casinos are getting dropped left and right.  CAS players often fill the ship and some are generous with their onboard contributions ... oops, I meant spending level with the digital bandits. Being turned over to MSC, Carnival and even Royal, it can't be a win-win situation.

The costs of sailing out of MCT next year is going up even higher with the minimum $15 congestion fee if driving to Pier 88 and park there for the duration, coupled with higher bridge/tunnel tolls - Red Hook, Brooklyn pier providing a nice alternative to where we'll consider sailing from/to ...

Perhaps, NCL thinks and calculated that they get to raise the fares with their ship ... except, we vote with our wallets - freedom of choice on what, where and who we book the next cruise with.  I'm not convinced that higher provisioning costs to NCL b/c it is NYC really factor in their equation - on their most recent quarterly finances, didn't they mentioned rising fuel prices or costs is their biggest challenge, not further cutting food costs and reducing hours.

We aren't adverse to sailing "smaller" and older, mid-sized ships, the extra bells & whistles aren't important to us ... just get rid of the lounge/sundeck chair hogs and the ones camping in the atrium, dawn to dust and we'll be fine & happy.

Carnival Venezia was initially scheduled to sail year round from MCT.. Only to shift gears and switch her to a Seasonal schedule. She's sailing out of NYC until Dec. '24 Then heading to Port Canaveral Back to NYC  May '25 thru Nov. '25. Venezia selling well. sailing full with lots of Casino players. Wonder if NCL and Carnival  are sending a message to NYC that they are unhappy with the condition of MCT and the cost of doing business here ? Back when Sheehan was CEO NYC and Miami were the two crown Jewel departure cities with the newest ships splitting there time between the two ports..

I read someplace that at least one cruise line provisioned ships during the Florida stop when sailing an itinerary from NY that made a stop in FL.

as somebody who lives - literally - blocks away from the MCT (yes, as many of you know, i walk to the terminal), i have very mixed feelings about NCL having a significantly reduced schedule out of manhattan on smaller, older ships.

on the one hand, i'm going to miss waking up at 9 am and being onboard the breakaway or the joy or the prima at 11:20. (OK, that's not entirely true... i won't miss being on the prima at all ever.)

on the other hand, NCL is a major contributor to air pollution and traffic congestion in this neighborhood. and by that i mean not just the smoke coming from the ship itself, but the exhaust from the fifteen to twenty trucks that line up overnight, for as long as 24 hours, idling their engines illegally and causing traffic disruption as they wait along the west side highway to unload their cargo. sometime the trucks go as far back as W 57 street.

every day that a ship docks at the MCT and  is not connected to shore power, it puts the equivalent of the emissions of 34,000 tractor-trailers into my neighborhood. the west side of manhattan has some of the worst air quality in manhattan and that is not coincidental.

back to the reduced schedule... manhattan is the USA's fourth busiest cruise port... it doesn't make sense to me that they would reduce the schedule... you gotta go where the people are and where it's easiest for your customers to get to. the new york area has remarkable air lift, with direct flights to most major cities. and many people enjoy pre or post vacations within the city, which is a tourist favorite all by itself.

indeed.

with regard to one point I made above, about the ship's power and smoke coming from the ship... all cruise lines have agreed to be connected to shore power while in port in NYC by 2028, both brooklyn and Manhattan. while the cruise lines have agreed to this, it's likely because it's backed by legislation... so they have to do it. they can't possibly be happy about it, despite every line touting their "sustainability" and eco-friendly efforts.

MCT currently has no access to on shore power.

brooklyn does, but it's only being used about half the time. in many cases, that is because the ships lack the capacity to connect to onshore power. all the newer ships have that capbility.

ships are in port in manhattan 227 days this year, while there are 43 days during which ships will dock in brooklyn.

as part of this shore power initiative, expect a $1 per passenger levy, which will go into a community fund. sorry. (not sorry.)

NCL always did that. On every one of the many NCL cruises from NY I did in the past that made a call in Port Canaveral there was always a line up of trucks provisioning the ship from early morning through late afternoon.
