My wish list for Princess

Recommended Posts

At the risk of being unreal.  We only buy wine by the bottle.  Some time ago I did a spreadsheet comparison of my cruise costs Standard Pricing vs, Plus Pricing vs. Premier Pricing.  I found that the packages do not pencil out when I bought by the bottle.  The 25% per bottle discount that is offered with both the packages did not offset the price of the packages.

Because of a domestic situation, we have been unable to cruise for the past couple years.  We hope that this situation is resolved at some time in the future.  When we do resume cruising, I will rework my spreadsheet.

Returning to the thread topic, I did think of something that I do not believe has been mentioned.  There used to be a fun event offered in Vines called Stammtisch.  One of the Vines servers would facilitate a conversation comparing multiple wines.  Attendance was limited to 10 or 12--however many chairs there are around that big table.  After the session was over, the server would open up one more bottle--typically, one of the wines in that day's program--and participants were able to sit around, enjoy that last bottle and chat.  I always enjoyed it because it was a small group, the participants were, generally, more than casual wine drinkers and conversation was encouraged.  This program ended quite a few years ago, much to my disappointment.  I would love for Princess to restart Stammtisch or something similar.

2024 and they still don't have USB ports for charging? Other lines literally have charging stations in the room. Do they have night lights in the bathrooms yet. I haven't sailed Princess since 2013. I strayed to Celebrity and Royal Caribbean and never went back.

some ships have the USB-A ports built into the lamps and as far as I have seen, only the Crown Princess has a port built onto the desk beside, one with USB-A and USB-C.  While it’s just the two ports, it’s quite conveniently located.  They need this on all ships as more and more devices use the USB-C ports.

We get bottles often at dinner with the discount but we also drink cocktails prior to dinner and late night in the casino. Can’t really do a bottle in the casino especially. I will drink dark and stormy drinks and my wife will just sip Pinot Grogio

from say 10 till 1 am so the plus package is perfect for us

Exactly! Essentially they intend it to represent unlimited drinks, but understanding that some people are hardcore alcoholics or will game the system to get "free" drinks for friends in other cabins, they include what to most people would be a ridiculous limit.

However, while you and I both know that, people are often not that smart, and literally believe that they paid for 15 drinks, so they should get to do what they want with all 15 drinks.

I think some will always push the limit.  They have really only paid for approx 3 drinks.  I wonder if the 15 drink imposed limit actually makes these people drink more or less than they would otherwise.  We never take on the challenge .. we drink what we like during the day and dinner but quickly move on to coffee or club soda in the evening.  We come out ahead with never getting to our limit.

It definitely made us drink more than usual.  However, in our case that meant 5-6 alcoholic drinks per day rather than two.

* Make bars off limits to children--and empower the crew to enforce it.

It's a sad state of affairs when Princess needs to ban kids from bars and venues after 10:00pm. Do these children not have parents?

It just depends if we can land on the proper definition of what a "child" is.  The age to be able to drink alcohol on the ship is 21.  But it would be pretty extreme to have a rule that 20 year-olds cannot enjoy the entertainment at Crooners, Skywalkers or the Wheelhouse after 10:00. Maybe there is a certain age range where most people could agree that minors are welcome if accompanied by an adult.  Maybe 13-17.  And beyond that, no rule.  My daughter loved all of the venues I listed above when she was 14, but she was with us in the evenings when she visited them.

For us it is not the venue it is the barstools at the bar. I am fine with young people being at tables but I have seen parents lifting kids on to bar stools and that is way too much. In most restaurants or lounges in the US that is against the law. Too much of the it’s my cruise and I will do what they want attitude. Kids can walk up to the bar get their sodas and go to a table

You are not in the United States while on a ship. Bars on Princess are not just for alcohol. They are the only place that kids can get sodas or mocktails other than with meals. They are paying for their drinks the same as the rest of us are. As long as they are well behaved, they should be welcome anywhere as long as there isn't adult only entertainment going on. I've seen adults misbehaving at bars. At least the kids aren't drunk.

Fine when I can’t get a bar stool because they filled with kids we will see what happens  I have no problem when they walk up order and go to a table otherwise they may hear some salty talk. Bar stools are for adults

When DW and I are sitting at a bar, I would much rather sit next to a well-behaved kid than to a so-called adult who thinks they should be talking "salty talk" in a public place.

Your post reminded me of the Happy Hour BOGO for $1 at the Wheelhouse they used to have. Not so much a wish list because of the Plus/Premium pkgs now but so much of a nostalgic thing.

Used to go with the family and my dad who has long since passed would absolutely love this time together in the afternoons. I really miss it, thanks for reminding me of it. 😊

* On the other hand, enforce bare minimum dress standards in the MDR. I know that will be controversial, but my expectations are super-low. I'm talking about no workout clothes, bare feet or flip-flops, torn t-shirts, etc. Yes, I've seen all of those in the MDR. And again, empower crew members to enforce it.

Disagree if you must, but hey--it's my wish list!

You’ve seen bare feet in the MDR? I’m really sorry, but I find that one hard to believe. What ship?

Maybe because the cruise line has not designated the bar as an adult area?

They do have a policy and if you ask the bartender they will be removed from any bar stools. I have done once in a while most parents are responsible enough to socialize with their children at tables not bars

Really no one here ever picked up a man or woman at a bar ?

My wish would be…

That they would make the Casino smoke free.

That they would make Dairy Free items like chocolate cake. If I can purchase Vegan cupcakes at Whole Foods why can’t I find one on a Princess cruise?

That all ships had signs in the international café and the buffet listing allergens. I have seen photos of signs on, I believe it was the Sky Princess but I have never seen signs on any of my cruises.

That they had Dole Whip on the Lido deck so I could have a cone too instead of me watching my family and friends eat all of the good stuff.

I know that I have a lot of food wishes but it totally stinks to be told that I can’t eat until the next day when the MDR opens. That has actually happened to me on more than one occasion. Stupid dairy allergy.

It was on the Majestic to New Zealand over Christmas 2023. I should note that Aussies love to go barefoot and it's not uncommon to see that in stores or coffee shops on land.  But I'm sorry, not in the MDR.  (This was actually on a so-called formal night!)

Yes, I completely agree with this.  I was thinking about the under-10 crowd.
