My wish list for Princess

Princess probably set that limit so people with the package were not buying their friends drinks.  They probably break even at about 6 drinks and it’s still a bargain for passengers.  IMO

Yes.  And 15 isn’t a requirement lol!  It’s just a maximum.  But I do get how some might consider getting to the max a challenge to be accepted!

The plus package pencils out for us when we plan on drinking 3 adult beverages a day and we aren’t in a full suite with access to a concierge lounge for waters, specialty coffees, wine, beer and cocktails.

My wish for Princess would be to include Ocean now activation and phoning room service free of charge for those in full suites so they might use the included perk of ordering MDR to the room.

And since water & specialty coffees are free and unlimited all day in the concierge lounge in Royal class ships full suite guests should get these free in Reserve Class dining as well.

Grand class ships should provide all the amenities of the Royal class concierge lounge also.

Yeah agree. I have been on 17 cruises prior to the one we have later in the year. This will be the first time we have taken out one of these packages as we aren't big drinkers. Our normal routine would maybe be a drink lunchtime or if I watch a football match in the afternoon with a couple of beers and the wife will have a cider or a pina colada. Before dinner we shower and have a drink in our cabin, then go to a bar and have a glass of wine. Sometimes we have a bottle of wine at dinner or I have a beer and my wife a gin and tonic. Unless we go to a cabaret act after the theatre we don't drink again except for a cup of hot chocolate before bed.

How about cabin doors that don't slam shut!

I understand that they slam closed as a fire safety issue.  It would be easy to place a warning on the back of the door instructing folks to not allow the door to slam closed.  One of our most annoying things when we cruise!

I’ve got that issue right now, exacerbated by being opposite a crew area.  As soon as I saw it I thought drat, that doesn’t show on the deck plans!  (From previous experience I’d never knowingly choose a cabin close to a crew door.)

Unfortunately I don’t think a sign would help.  Let’s face it, you only have to let it slam once to know what a noise it makes.  People just don’t care, it’s a typical lack if consideration for others.

It is in the app under ‘explore the ship’ map.

the little door alcoves indicate where you walk in the door and the head of the bed is opposite that.  So, if your door alcove is on the left as you are facing it, the head of your bed faces forward, as in D407.
This map used to be for all ships on the old app, but you could only see it for other ships than the one you’re on while on land.  Since it was in the old app, I know they can apply it to the new app for all ships or at least have it available at the future cruise office when picking a cabin.
BTW, I think that for the inside cabins, the bed just faces the center.

Thanks! Unfortunately, that feature doesn’t show while looking at deck plans on their website.

I don’t have to type in any information each time I open the app.

If I log out of the app then when I go to log in, I have to type in all the information, ID and password. I'm guessing you don't log out of your app.

We were in a suite in 2023 to Alaska and had the older pkg that didn't include these benefits and we still ordered MDR food to the room and were not charged the room svc fee.

Tune the TV to the Bridge cam and you can hear the announcements.

Does that work on all Princess ships. We have tried it on Discovery, Emails, and Grand without too much luck. Maybe we're doing something wrong.  We have had it work on some Carnival ships, but not all.

Emails is supposed to be Emerald. I always forget to proof read.

When drink packages first were introduced they were unlimited unlike other cruise lines and Princess said we trust our customers not to share. A year or so later the limit showed up. Nuff said

Fixed dining doesn't have to be shared [among strangers] tables.  We used it in the old days with just our party.  I'm not following that the MDR isn't used by many folk.  Seems pretty busy to me.

Yeah if they are not used much then why is there a massive queue at 4:45 waiting for them to open

@Cruise Raider Thanks for posting this fun thread.  Here's my list:

  • Eliminate smoking in the casino
  • Add a second Ultimate Texas Hold'Em table to casinos
  • Add (or extend) a counter next to the Lido deck pizza place, so you can stand and have a slice
  • Yes, give us an opt-out on the medallion clasp and lanyard
  • Add additional and pro-rate the specialty dining based on cruise length
  • Hire a musical director for the cruise (or some equivalent staffer) who reviews playlists and ensures that musical acts don't repeat the same songs night after night....and yes, please make sure that the next performer in the Piazza doesn't redo the same song we just heard from the last person only minutes ago.  C'mon Princess, do better!  (Pet peeve of mine, yes).

All I can say is good luck to you if between late afternoon and even 1 a.m. you can down fifteen cocktails or whatever. That's your choice and I appreciate that. I can't and neither can my wife. I accept a package is what it is, but the question was "What would people like to see made available on a cruise" Mine was that perhaps Princess could offer exchanges for certain parts of a package or where the usage of an item or items was lower than the limits set that an alternative could be offered.

As I mentioned before if you allowed each person to make their own package up you could have 3,000 different plans which would be near impossible to administer. You are calling people names based on their lifestyle. If I return to the ship at 3:00 I would probably have 2 glasses of wine at Vines, 2 pre dinner cocktails, 2 glasses of wine with dinner, an after drink drink, maybe 4-5 in the casino and then grab a double Sambucca at Crooners as I head for my suite.

No one has said that the MDR isn’t used much. I simply said that the number of passengers who eat there every single night is limited by the availability of other dining venues.  Lots of people, maybe even most, eat at specialty restaurants, the buffet, or casual dining during a cruise.

As a suite passenger who uses Reserve Class Dining I often see people trying to talk there way in there after being told they will have to wait at their normal dining room

I actually meant so I could turn it up so I don’t have to stick my head in the hallway to hear the announcement.  The emergencies would come through as normal.

I know it's not popular, but I'd rather have announcements in the cabin.  We have missed things just because we either didn't hear the hall announcement or got there too late.

I also wish the International Cafe would add back some of the salads, etc. they used to have and of course 'real' promenade decks where you could walk around the ship.  We tend to choose older ships because they still have this.  I also like the big closet but wish for a bigger shower with shower doors!  And bring back separate conditioner and shampoo; the combo is just awful.  Finally, better production shows--they have gotten stale and lame--.Broadway style?

I am oftentimes coming up with suggestions for Princess to consider or reconsider .. I would like to hear yours if they are reasonable.

I would like to see a small rack for paper recyclables in the cabins.

I would like to see those ships that don’t have an Ocean Terrace or Alfredo’s/Gigi’s pizzeria offer complimentary pizza and sushi delivery via the app if already included in your plus or premier package.

This suggestion belongs to someone else but sounds reasonable.  If a cruise is over 13 days, the specialty dining and casual dining perks should reflect the number of formal nights.  I would even go so far as to say if your cruise is under 5 nights, maybe that should be limited to one vs two specialty dining options .. just to keep it reasonable.

I would like to see the option for no lanyard and no medallion clasp be offered when ordering your medallion online.  We have so many of them already.  It wouldn’t save them a lot but every little bit helps.

I would like to see a notification pop up on your app when someone on the other end of crew chat notifies you.

I would like to see nonsmoking nights return in the casino.

I would like to see all shipboard deck plans available on the new app as they were on the old app.  Even if they had them available in the future cruise sales office, that would be so helpful when picking out a cabin on a different ship.

I would like to see a volume button in the cabins to hear the announcements over the PA.

I would like to see all cabins equipped with both USB-A and USB-C ports near the bedside.

Oh .. there are so many more, many of which wouldn’t save Princess money but some of which would be too costly or impossible to enforce.

I really wouldn’t mind once a day room steward service in our cabin .. that one may not be popular with others, though.

What are some of your reasonable suggestions?

Looks like you're getting at least one wish: Crown Princess, as of December 2023, has been retrofitted with USB-A and USB-C ports bedside. Hopefully other ships will get the same treatment,

There seem to be a lot of folks who prefer early dining.   Granted, the MDRs are not nearly as full as in the old days with only fixed dining as an option.  But it seems they are still heavily used.

I can't say I've tried it on every ship but I would think so.  It seems you have to turn the volume up quite a bit and it sort of has a delay from what you hear in the hallway.  Honestly I usually find it quicker and easier to just go open the door to the hallway,

We had these on the Crown but in our suite they were on the desk not the bedside table. We just used our charging device for multiple devices

Thanks, we'll try again next month on Discovery Princess Classic California Coastal.

Earlier in the thread someone said they wished they could access future cruises while on current cruise. Noticed yesterday that in the Princess app you can now toggle between booked cruises under profile > voyages, which you couldn't do before. Not sure if this is what you meant but is a new feature. If you select all will also show you your previous Medallion voyages.

Yes - for paper sheets only (trying to get the public to recycle things properly is really hard) but that would require a whole recycling chain for Princess, which I'm not sure they want to do.

I'd love that, but not sure that wouldn't add a whole lot of extra work (especially when there's otherwise no sushi bar).

This seems like one of those things Princess does purposely.

As far as casual dining, there's really no good reason not to make it unlimited for Plus since those venues have really declined in patronage since the change.

For specialty, Crown Grill in particular generally gets booked solid on sea days as it stands, so a third included night would either negatively impact the revenue from people paying "full price" or anger Premier guests who can't book that third free dinner they're entitled to.

YES OMG A THOUSAND TIMES YES

This is basic software functionality, but as such, I expect a large number of cruise lines' most lucrative passengers will be frightened by their phones' "Allow Notifications?" pop-up and reflexively click "No."

If people with addictive personalities weren't such a large portion of a casino's revenue, it would be a natural. I think Princess missed the boat by converting the cigar lounges to crappy claw-game arcades instead of enclosed casino areas for smokers.

I do like the focus of the app on the upcoming/current cruise (again, perhaps a portion of the clientele were confused by those) but maybe there should be a separate booking app with deck plans and other general items.

Or a button on the remote that automatically turns on the TV to the bridge view channel. By the time I've fiddled with things to get bridge view up, the announcement is halfway done.

By the time the last batch of ships were built/refurbished, there doesn't seem to be an excuse for that other than Princess doesn't want them there. Maybe they're scared that if they installed USB-A the European Commission would fine them for limiting consumer choice.

This should be an option (on HAL our steward offered this on the first day), but I can see the staff not knowing how much work they'd have each sailing, and knowing how business works, Princess would start staffing for the least work and just expecting them to work harder if more people want two-a-day.

- Limit the drink packages to a lower number of alcoholic beverages (7-8) but add unlimited soft drinks/smoothies/espresso - it would stop a lot of people from demanding every drink of the 15 they feel entitled to (either for themselves or to give to friends) and instead making every one count

- Online reservations for casual dining, now that it comes with a charge.

- Ability to sign up for alerts on the app if a desired MDR/specialty dining reservation time opens, like OpenTable.

- Not-so-reasonable-maybe: deck loungers with availability flags and sensors - to use, fold the flag down, and when nobody's sat on them in 30 minutes, the flag goes up.

Oh, people feel entitled to all 15 drinks, alright. I've been swarmed when I suggest that Princess has every right to ensure the drinks on a person's package are only consumed by that person. "Those are my 15 drinks, whether I drink them myself or order half for friends shouldn't matter!"
