Three voyages and 11 transactions between November 3 and November 13 (years not specified). That does not make sense. I can guess that each passenger account that was involved was a separate transaction, but three cruises???

When details like that are suspect, it puts the rest of the article in doubt, too.

Ironic- I remember a similar situation when we were on Noordam 3 in the early 80's. A group of casino employees were embezzling as I recall. Fellow passengers saw them being escorted off in handcuffs.

It was the talk of the ship for a couple of days.

Additional details will probably come out in time. Charged by the Broward County Sheriff sounds pretty specific to me, and the article says he confessed. We'll see...

It could mean the cruise that ended on Nov 3rd, the one that went from Nov 3-13, and the one that started on Nov 13. Transactions occurring between the 3rd and 13th could've involved all three cruises.

The article is dated December 16' date=' 2014 and the Sun-Sentinel copyright at the bottom is Dec. 2014. I can't imagine the theft occurred years earlier and they are just printing the details of the arrest now.[/quote']

I was referring to a theft that occurred in the early 80's on the former Noordam

The transactions occurred this year. Associated Press Style, which is followed by the SS, dictates that the year not be used in this situation.

Had it been 2012 or 2009, the year would have been used.

The SS is an excellent paper and I would not cast doubt on a simple report, most likely written directly from the BSO report.

Perhaps, but if so it would be a strange way to measure. Most people would pick the starting date of the first cruise, and the ending date of the last cruise for transactions "between".

In any case, it is a shame that someone ruined their career and their future for such a relatively small amount of money.

Gosh, I also remember when that happened. Even though not so many people were cruising back then, it made the newspapers.

That former Noordam was think our first HAL cruise but the theft wasn't while we were on her.

Our first HAL cruise was on Noordam III. :)

We knew right away HAL was our cruise line of choice after having sailed two or three cruise lines before we got to try HAL.

I watched that mans bond hearing yesterday, he has 8 counts of theft against him. His bond is 5000 for each count. His passport has to be handed over and he already transferred the money to his home town, there may be more charges pending for the money transfer alone. His bond hearing was in broward court.

The ships are like small towns. There can be 'bad eggs' anywhere, so considering the sizes of the ships and the number of employees, it still is a very safe way to travel. As a passenger, it pays to ask to see your account charges from time to time, just to be sure you don't see any irregularities.
