That was why Cheers! wasn't a good choice for us. By day 4 of an 8 day, I wasn't interested in drinking 7 or 8 drinks a day anymore. The calories were too much for me. Even DH, who can pound 'em down, was over it by day 5 or 6. Now, if we were still in our 20s and didn't have a young kid with us, Cheers would have been a huge bargain, but now in our 40s, it wasn't worth it.

Enough time to be able to order bon voyage maybe? I imagine there are people who decided to go with Cheers because of the lower price instead of ordering Bon Voyage and carrying on their own mixers. Having the price increase at embarkation would be quite the shock for those who chose that route.

I don't know the answer, did a quick little google search but haven't found anything. How far in advance do you have to purchase the bon voyage items? Or, better question, when does it close for purchases before your cruise?

Ok. You have to spend $57 a day for the package which includes 15 drinks a day. Cheapest beer on ship 15 of them +gratuity comes to $85.40 a day. Not including taxes in home port. And that is just cheap beer, not Funship specials, not frozen drinks which would run up to $154.40 a day. It still sounds like a good deal to me,

Put me in the alcoholic category too I guess. I had 5 last night and was fine. 2 glasses of wine and 3 beers over a 3.5 hour time period. Last cruise, the most I hit was 11 but that began with bloody mary's at breakfast. I still think I will get my money's worth.

Carnivals pricing is like watching a tennis match.

You can build up tolerance to alcohol and other drugs, but not to the damage it causes.

It's amazing to me that the people who run carnival do not have a clue with their pricing. How can a big corporation make a change that was so wrong in pricing that they had to change it within two months. Wow, does not seem they have a clue to abandon a pricing structure so quickly.

Thats a shame. I have never drank on a cruise before. My first cruise i was young and broke. My last cruise i was pregnant. This time i was really looking forward to trying ALL the cocktails and indulging in wine with dinner etc. But i just dont think i can justify almost $1,000 just in alcohol.

I think we will have drnks but we'll try to focus on drink deals and packages. I just doubt that we would break even most days. This way we'll more likely confine ourselves to a couple drinks a day. Im not going to lie. I'm quitet disappointed with this news.

Technically, there were two changes with three different pricing structures in two months (assuming the date in August falls under the current two month period; otherwise three months).

I haven't actually calculated anything, but it seems to me factoring in the higher cost of the Celebrity cruise to begin with and then whatever the price of the 1-2-3 Go promotion, Carnival will still be a better value for a cruise.

Using a future cruise date of March 1, 2015, I chose the Carnival Splendor and the Celebrity Silhouette. They are both sailing 7 days in the eastern caribbean. Ocean view cabins are 519 on the Splendor versus 899 on the Silhouette. I chose these because an OV is the cheapest cabin that you can get on Celebrity to take advantage of the 1-2-3 Promotion, which has NO price, because it's a promotion that is included with your cruise and the best option of your 3 choices is the free classic alcohol one. So, on paper, Carnival is 380 cheaper, but after factoring in the price of Cheers at 49.50 plus 15%, that adds another 395 to your tab.

So, the Celebrity cruise is 15.00 cheaper after factoring in the cost of Cheers and the icing on top is that the classic package on Celebrity includes bottled water, espresso based coffee drinks and fresh squuezed juices. On top of that, you would be sailing on a 5.5 star rated ship instead of the Splendor.

So, which one is the better value now? Edit....in case you really like to imbibe, there is no 15 drink limit on Celebrity.

Now this news of a price increase, Carnival has made our decision very easy - we will not be spending the additional money on Cheers now. There's no way we'd ever spend or drink $900+ worth of alcohol for 2! Smh.

AS you posted, it is a PROMOTION. Subject to change with or without notice, so book while you can.

As for drink limits, of course there are limits. All cruise lines can and will cut people off if they get out of hand. Even before a 15 drink "limit".

But you do help prove a point - that PRICE is still the most important factor in choosing a cruise.

We paid this current price on our last 2 cruises. We saved a lot of money and only one sea day (and late into the night in the casino) did we reach the 15 limit. We added up our drinks using an average on our account when we got home and if we had been buying each of them would have cost over 500 more than we paid for the package.

It would have been nice to have the package cheaper next time, but we'll still get it next time as we like the more all inclusive feeling and not watching what we're doing constantly while on vacation.

Is this truly the prices now? Because a frozen concoction such as a kiss on the lips or a daiquiri just went up from $7.50 ($8.63 with gratutity) to $7.95 ($9.14 with grat.) and so did all of the others.

If this chart is accurate - no wonder they raised Cheers.

Wondering if they will still allow purchase on day 2. Sailing in 9 days and planning on Cheers. I have a nice amount of OBC so I am not going to change my plan but if I didn't have the credit I don't think I would purchase. I am pretty much a non-drinker in life but was going to use this trip as my splurge.

I have to say, this is really my first cruise (went on the Big Red Boat in 6th grade but kinda doesn't count). Carnival has not impressed me with a few things (inconsistent policies, crazy price fluctuations, CSR's who have different answers to the same questions and now this abrupt pricing change). Yes, they do state that prices are subject to change, however a courtesy advance notice to their customers would have been a better approach here.

I am certain I will still have an amazing time on my cruise, even if the beverage package costs just as much as the entire fare for 5 days (or close to it), however if I decide to sail again it may be with another cruise line.

In February I bought Cheers on an 8-night Breeze cruise. I drank more than I would normally, bound and determined to get my money's worth. I enjoyed not having to worry about what I was spending and the freedom to try new things. But even though I exceeded the break-even point, I would not have had that many drinks without Cheers and decided not to do it again.

Then they made the price more inviting... We're doing 8-nights on the Liberty in January and were leaning toward getting it. We won't now.

I was trying to figure my budget for my January cruise on the Liberty. 900 for 2 just blew me out of the water. My daughter and her boyfriend are coming along. It was to be his first cruise, this is not good news at all.

I can see a rise in rum runners. I love my pina coladas. I guess there is going to be a major cutback on them.

I have been wondering about the connection btwn the rock bottom prices, the huge amts of OBC and the cost increase of cheers.

One of the questions on their recent survey was comparing cruising to all inclusive vacations. I'm wondering if their is a connection?

Say if you do not drink the whole 49.95 per day times however many days -... we will give you the difference back in a form of OBC for oyur next cruise..

Wonder how many people would actually get OBC back.... avg 6 or 7 drinks a day you do that socializing if you are any semi drinker... :) :D
