iahawkfan21 Posted October 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2017 Despite having the beverage package, I still drink the tap water at meals and usually in my room and have never had any issues, tastes fine to me. The water onboard is very safe to drink.
ARCruisinNana Posted October 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2017 Officially, the policy states no water or soda can be brought aboard. However, for several years and many cruises I have always brought a case of water on ships out of Galveston, Navigator and Liberty. cb at sea Posted October 4, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 4, 2017 The water is in the food, ice and beverages. It's perfectly safe, clean and fine. Better than what's in those plastic, littering bottles! You can get ice water anywhere...all bars and eating venues will give you as much ice water as you want. In your cabin, the water is the same...but it will not "run cold", so make sure you tell your cabin attendant to bring ice 2 times daily. Plop a few cubes in a glass...get water..and it's great! SRF Posted October 4, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 4, 2017 The water on the ship is probably higher quality than the water at your house. :) Bringing water on board seems to be port specific. At some ports, the longshoremen will not handle cases of water. If you put them in a duffel bag with handles, it is fine. Or you could carry it on. Carguylee Posted October 4, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2017 We always drink the tap water and it has been fine, didn't notice anything one way or the other. In September there was a guy on day 4 trying to return the soda package cup and get a refund for the other days because the 'water sucked'. The guest services guy was telling him it was hard to do since they had been using it 4 days.
gerif Posted October 4, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Have been cruising long before anyone drank bottled water and never had an issue. What do you think they cook with or make ice cubes with? Want a bottle for excursions? Just bring along a sports bottle and fill it before heading out. The thought of hauling a case of water on a cruise just boggles the mind. Maybe because I'm not part of the bottled water generation. You could always bring one of those bottles with a Brita filter if you're concerned.
LeesSummitCruiser1 Posted October 4, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 4, 2017 I drink out of the tap all the time. I use the ice all the time.
atb Posted October 4, 2017 #15 Share Posted October 4, 2017 we drink the tap water - bring our "tervis" tumblers from home to combine water and ice.
wolfganghowell Posted October 4, 2017 #16 Share Posted October 4, 2017 FYI - the pool bar always has a chilled self serve water dispenser with cups at one end. Been using it for years - always tasty and safe.

blackshirt Posted October 5, 2017 #20 Share Posted October 5, 2017 Or go to the gym and fill your reusable water bottles there.... That is actually not allowed. There are signs posted at both drinking fountains saying that is prohibited.
geomancer Posted October 5, 2017 #21 Share Posted October 5, 2017 How in earth would the ship's water not be safe?? It's a valid question. Water can be unsafe on airplanes for example, or technically safe but dirty. Many flight attendants say they will not drink the coffee or tea on board, because it's made from the 'tap' water. In 2004 and again in 2012 the EPA tested the water in planes and found 12% had coliform, which is an indication of fecal matter. They also found E.Coli, but not as much. In 2009 they passed rules forcing airlines to test and disinfect their water tanks, but in the 2012 tests it didn't change anything about the coliform, but did reduce the E.Coli to 0.5% of the planes. Food (or water) for thought.

Food (or water) for thought. Big difference to ship's water, which is constantly recirculated, unlike a plane or your home, and which must have a residual chlorine content, at the furthest point from the chlorination point, of 0.5ppm. Additionally, the ship's water is tested monthly, from the active water tank, and from 6 random locations around the ship, for quality and coliform bacteria. Further, any water taken onboard in port, from the municipal supply, is chlorinated before it reaches the tanks, and must be kept segregated, and not used, until a coliform bacteria test is completed, which takes 18-24 hours. DTIBBY Posted October 5, 2017 #23 Share Posted October 5, 2017 The water is Reverse osmosis so very good water ... they have a fantastic filtration system on board Sent from my iPhone using Forums
widallas Posted October 5, 2017 #24 Share Posted October 5, 2017 You can refill your bottle...they just ask you to fill a cup and use that to refill instead of directly putting your bottle there. There are plastic cups so no problem. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
