Cheers and Pregnancy

 Share

Recommended Posts

I just found out my son is making us grandparents (don't even think I'm letting this kid call me grandma:')). I was looking on here about cheers and pregnancy and it seems like they make you purchase the drink package if everyone in your cabin purchases it but they don't let the pregnant women use the package. So she can't give beers to my son who is also in her cabin? He only drinks on vacation but he's 6 foot 5 and weighs 260 (played college tight end and currently plays minor league baseball) so he has a very high tolerance.

Can we just cancel their cheers if we already prepaid? We bought the package for them as a surprise since they are the only ones in our group who won't have casino drinks on us cards.

First, congratulations. I am sure you will find lots of fun names to be called - one of my friend's is "Nana" and the other is "Crazy" and both were well under 50 when they were so honored.

Second, I commend you for playing by the rules. You are correct that she cannot drink (or shall we say shouldn't because if she was very early and you didn't report it (again wrong) how would they know?) and cannot share. They will refund your purchase. Perhaps for a reasonable fee, depending on how you booked, you can do some room swapping if there are two that would enjoy and 2 that don't need it?

Well Nana :D the soon to be mama may still drink enough milk shakes and power aides to make it worth it or even ginger ale. She can still get virgin drinks as well.

This is true. If your son is gonna drink all 15 of his you are “ahead” because (assuming Alchemy bar expense drinks) you need to drink about 5-6 to break even - per person. So if he wants all 15 and she has some fru fru- it’s cost effective.

On the Cheers purchase page it says you can cancel for full refund prior to cruise (cut off is not more than 1-3 days, I forget what it said exactly). No refund (or partial refund) after this deadline).

Switching the listed occupants of each room may be possible, and there may be a fee. This could result in your son being listed in cabin with someone else who wants cheers (or at least can order alcoholic drinks). Once you board, they don't care who sleeps where. You can even get extra room keys so people can get in the cabin they are actually sleeping in. However, the sail and sign card for purchasing/getting on and off the ship must be the "original," so the switchers would have to keep track of two cards.

PP is correct about the cut off for cruising while pregnant. If she's too far along you'll have to reschedule until the baby is a certain age (new borns can't cruise, I forget the minimum age).

Assuming she isn't too far along to cruise, and you don't switch cabins, Cheers could still be worth it. If your son hits close to 10 alcoholic drinks/day, and his wife orders at least 5-6 non-alcoholic per day, it would still be worth it. Non-alcoholic includes virgin cocktails, sodas, milkshakes, any bottled drinks including poweraide and water, specialty coffees, and juice.

Could somebody possibly copy and paste or highlight where, on Carnival's website or FAQ's, it says that Cheers is fully-refundable up to XX days in advance? I am unable to find this and would like to pre-purchase, but don't want to be locked in.

Copied and pasted directly from the Carnival website...

  • CHEERS! is non-refundable; if the program is purchased prior to the cruise, it is refundable up to 10:00pm ET, the evening prior to the cruise departure.

Congratulations!

I advise canceling Cheers and if you still want to gift them drinks you could purchase the equivalent cost of Cheers for your son plus some extra for virgin drinks for d-i-l in the form of Cruise Cash and Cruise Bar Cash. Since you said others in your group don't need Cheers it doesn't make sense to me to mess with the room switch.

Others mentioned all the yummy virgin drinks, but when I was pregnant I wouldn't have wanted to drink that much sugar. If the couple combined think they would drink enough over the entire length of the cruise to be worth the cost, then go ahead and keep Cheers. Otherwise I think they might drink more than they want to justify the cost.

Just a different perspective:cool:

UMM what? The above "copy and paste" makes no sense. I think two things got combined....

Here is the link to the page PP got that from

https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1106

Restrictions:

  • CHEERS! is offered by stateroom - All adults staying in the same room must participate
  • We're committed to responsible drinking. One drink per order' date=' limited to 15 drinks per day
[*']25% discount off the menu price for any spirit or wine by the glass above $50.00
  • Program is non-refundable

Interesting. I took mine from a screenshot where I can buy it for my next cruise. I would appear they are in contradiction on one another. One saying non-refundable. The other saying refundable with restrictions. Anyone else thinking that or am I just dense today?

I'm not sure what you think got combined. I read it as someone wants to pre-purchase Cheers (a non-refundable package once aboard) but wants to know about canceling before sailing if they change their mind. Cancel with refund has the same cut of as pre-purchase of 10pm day before embarkation.

I posted before seeing the other replies. You aren't being dense, the wording is weird.

Cheers is non-refundable after 10 PM the night before sailing. If you board the ship and decide you don't want the package it's too late. More likely, they have passengers who purchase the package and then realize they aren't drinking as much as they thought they would. There is no refund once on board.

If you realize before the 10PM deadline that you no longer want the package (pregnant, not sailing, gifted Bar Cash, etc) then you can cancel and be refunded.

Clear as mud;p

When I log into carnival, select Cheers!, I get the following pop-up....enhance

When I click full rules there is no mention of the 10pm rule. :(

Looking at the subject I was wondering what your question would be. The first thought I had was, yes Cheers can lead to pregnancy.

I thought it was going to be someone complaining about carnival not allowing you to drink while pregnant.
