speaking of hotels. what happens in a situation like this. no doubt any hotel is and will be full for a very long time. so if a 'new' traveler has a reservation, do they kick out the local or tell the new traveler sorry we have no rooms

Usual practice is not to kick out the occupant of the room and to deny the person with a reservation.

In normal times, the displaced person with a reservation would be sent to a nearby equivalent hotel, but that would not be practical in this case.

2500 sq ft under air, two story, 4 bedroom, total around 3900 sq feet with garage and patio spaces, pool. Our insurance just went up from $3800 last year to $4300 this year, never had a claim. And to put into perspective, we have paid for a wind mitigation inspection and we receive approx $3k discount due to having built in hurricane shutters, hurricane rated garage door, roof meets certain newer codes, etc.

I am on a lake, but not in a flood zone we can purchase FEMA flood cheap, which I do. $425 for something like $300K building and $80K contents.

And while not exactly building value, just to give an idea, zillow has my property estimate at around $420K.

I am in Palm Beach County

What lake are you on?

Just heard on the news they were probably going to open southbound for northbound travel in next 6-12 hours after emergency supplies have been delivered. Of course only time will tell.

What news? Your in Massachusetts, I'm in Florida, haven't heard anything of the sort. #FAKENEWS

If you are not familair, there are links at the bottom to 2 Miami cams, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale, and Tampa. I plan on watching a lot this weekend with probably at least 1000 or more others.

I've been watching the Key West Harbor cam. Mostly blue skies but clouds approaching from the east.

I was just wondering if they ever do this. I was watching a live feed from a helicopter and only big semis were headed southbound. I guess once those cease they will open them up, which is great!

How do you Yankees (my SO is one) come up with these things. Do you do that in PA during a blizzard? More #FAKENEWS.

There is absolutely no gas shortage. The problem is that the tankers cant get to the gas stations fast enough. The tankers are being escorted through traffice by FHP. Florida has a priority on fuel delivery. Over 13 million gallons of fuel was delivered to Port of Tampa and Port Canaveral this morning for statewide distribution.

Might not have a shortage. We were able to find gas away from I95 at the local knowledge place but I will say from GasBuddy, many by the interstates are out or have long lines.

Florida Governor just said won't use counter flow, it impedes emergency vehicles. North on I-75 they are instead using emergency lane as extra traffic lane all the way to Georgia boarder...

Not only that, but it is a monumental effort to use counter flow. Considering drivers would have to enter via exit ramps and exit via on ramps, causing an irregular flow of traffic at the intersections (exiting traffic wouldn't even see a traffic light), police would need to man each intersection for traffic control. With how many houses/businesses are unoccupied right now, the police need to be focused on other things.

Yep, but the Yankees out of harms way KNOW what's going on HERE. Got to love it.

There is this neat invention called satellite that shows no trees.

I have neglected to thank you for all the updates. Sooo...thank you so much for the

update posts and pictures you have provided. It is appreciated.

Now we just have to hope that our family, friends, and neighbors stay safe...and we still have homes to come

home to! :)

Barbuda's trees are gone. What was green is now brown. Sad

I assume the picture on the left is the after pic? Looks like there is less vegetation on the south end of the island and a little less around the pond in the northern quadrant?

I'm not sure those aerial pics really show the true devastation of the island but thank you for sharing them. [emoji106]

Hurricane evacuation route marking near the Texas Gulf Coast

Beginning in the 1990s, many states in the Southeastern United States adopted from coastal areas using contraflow lane reversals on . State highway departments have coordinated on plans for traffic direction with state agencies, constructed highway median crossovers, and installed signage for drivers and barriers and swing arms to inhibit wrong-way collisions.

Most evacuation plans involve only a single state; however, the states of Louisiana and Mississippi have developed coordinated plans to evacuate the New Orleans metropolitan area using Interstate 55 and Interstate 59.

Current contraflow evacuation plans exist for:

I was born in Miami and raised in Florida (except during my Army days) and have NEVER seen these routes on the road. What experience do you have in Denver with Hurricanes?

My comment is was about dual flow highways. Here in the South, Southbound lanes are typically open for 1st Responders. Don't know what they do about Hurricanes in Colorado.

We love you giving us Crackers advice. [emoji33]

I lived in New Orleans from 1990-2004 and we used it a few times over the causeway during some storms (I don't recall which).

And I know how to google something before I comment.

Never seen those marking on any highway. We see bikes route markings all the time. Post a picture of one in Florida. This is not NOLA.

Mil 8, are you related to BUU? If not I suggest the two of you hook up because all the two of you do is bicker with every poster on these boards. Or better yet lock yourselves in a forum together and go at it and leave everyone else alone.
