SeaShark Posted January 6, 2015 #26 Share Posted January 6, 2015 I'm surprised that nobody has noticed that for their example, the OP chose a ship from a line that names their ships in honor of members of the "ruling class".
UPNYGuy Posted January 6, 2015 #27 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Every once in a while this comes up. Those of us that sail in The Haven cabins appreciate these perks, and pay for the exclusivity that comes with them. Norwegian treats the suite guests like the term "guest" actually implies, and not simply as a passenger paying to be on the ship. On the Breakaway and Epic, we are escorted around the ship in crew elevators for embarkation and disembarkation. Literally first on and first off. Plus, no waiting in lines for tendering. And having our own exclusive "country club" area on the ship is a HUGE perk. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Casino Comp Chick Posted January 6, 2015 #28 Share Posted January 6, 2015 They didn't even do this on the Queen Mary; separate people by class in the theater. HAHAHAHA I can't. :p

This is one of the perks of booking those suites (and they pay dearly for them). I didn't even notice it when I was on the Gem.

ColinIllinois Posted January 6, 2015 #32 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Yes, they had a separate area for the Haven guests to sit in the theater. It was never full. I've been on the QM2 many times and I never saw this, not in the theater. Strange. The theater may not have been full when you attended if it coincided with the same time that people on inside cabins are required to wash dishes for two hours to earn dinner privileges. I am sure that plenty of people who earn way more than I do choose to cruise in an inside cabin. I fail to see why this is a "class" discussion. Nobody forces anyone to choose the cabin that they do. You want to cruise for less $? Pay for an inside cabin. Want to spend more and, subsequently, enjoy different perks or privileges? Pay for a suite. Yes, passengers in Grill-class cabins on QM2 get absolutely no special privileges or amenities...especially not a few reserved seats in a section of the theatre with a poor sight line. If I ever cruise on the QM2 again, I'll be sure to book a Queens Grill cabin and then complain that the peons cruising in NCL Haven suites get reserved seats in the theatre but I don't. Surely you can't be that naive or unobservant... Edited January 6, 2015 by njhorseman

The funny thing is a lot of people can pay for a suite but don't because they'd rather spend their $$ on other things. BTW, we had a balcony cabin. Why pay for a suite when I can use that money to pay for another cruise this year? I was just shocked that they had a separate area for Haven guests, and even more surprised that the area was nearly empty at almost every show. Haven guests have their own pool so why not their own area in the theater;)? (And I agree that I would rather sail two or three times more often than pay for a suite.:))

How about spending the money for a suite and cruising several times a year? One does not exclude the other. There are many/several on here that not only exclusively book suites, but also cruise 5 or 6 times a year.

There are many/several on here that not only exclusively book suites, but also cruise 5 or 6 times a year. Because spending $2k on balcony in June and then another $2k in August in the same year than paying $4k for a once-a-year trip in July in a Haven suite is just plain smart in the eyes of some people. Some care about going on cruises more often than the actual accommodations or perks. You also forget that not everyone is rich to spend on a Haven suite and/or travel often, so they pay what they can afford. For example; if going often means sleeping in a interior and not a balcony 5 times a year, either pick the interior for that choice or realize that picking balcony means going 3 times instead of 5 plus having a outside view of the ocean. TLDR- Spending money on Suite and cruising several times a year do exclude each other. Its called 'choosing to afford /paying it'. maywell Posted January 6, 2015 #44 Share Posted January 6, 2015 They didn't even do this on the Queen Mary; separate people by class in the theater. They do separate people especially when it comes to dining by your accommodations - it even says it on their website. That more class-based than NCL since rooms on Queen Mary start at $3k per person, mostly upperclass with the people caring about status than NCL where cheapest rooms are $300 per person and most people don't care because of large selection of different places to eat along with manner of getting a table (Freestyle or reservations - no class distinction there). The theater seating is just a perk on non-Breakaway ships - Honestly it not a big deal, that what they paid into among other things on the smaller NCL ships. C'est la vie... AKR2011 Posted January 6, 2015 #46 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Although I personally have no problem with this, I have never noticed it before. Is it advertised that Suite and Haven guests get reserved seats? I'm glad that many have pointed out that the seats are not fantastic anyway. I just don't know if it's a perk that everyone is aware of. Personally, I have no problem showing up early to get a good seat to a show. However, if I paid all that extra money, it would be nice to know that I could come in late and still find a seat.

However, if I paid all that extra money, it would be nice to know that I could come in late and still find a seat. Being able to arrive late is part of the perk, and why on both of our recent NCL cruises, the seats were held throughout the show. I didn't realize they usually (? sometimes?) do release the seats once the show starts. No need to rush to get a good seat (although some weren't quite so "good"), and it was okay if someone is running late. (Because the position wasn't so good, it also wasn't particularly disruptive is someone arrived late, the way it would be if someone needed to squeeze across a central row to an available middle seat, etc.) Because some of those priority seats were *much* better than a few of the others, we tended to arrive a bit early anyway. Several times there were other "regular suite" passengers ("regular suite" sounds a bit of an oxymoron) who insisted on sitting in this section, and they gave the Concierge a rough time. Didn't help that they (the passengers, not the Concierge!) were more than a bit sloshed at the time. GeezerCouple

Sent from my iPhone using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app If I'm not mistaken about the Breakaway theater show seating, its usually done through the Concierge for Haven guests and for Solo travelers from the Solo Coordinator just telling the box office how many are coming. I didn't see any reserve seating but then again I didn't bother to look up behind me if there was a 2nd level or not. (I had front row seating from the sides for the shows I went *shrug* ) Sent from my SGH-T399 using Tapatalk
