Staying awake for late night shows, dancing, etc.

I guess I am the only party pooper on here. No naps and no staying up late for me:eek:

 

In your defense, vacations should be what you want them to me. That doesn't make you a party pooper.

 

As for me, I'm too wired to sleep in, so a nap is an extravagant gift I make to myself as a piece of the vacation picture.

I picked up the hammock in Cozumel in the shops that are just outside the pier for $25 or maybe less. I've had it set up on Freedom class and Oasis class. Note the difference in the photos from Oasis class to Freedom class. I made my own spreader bar to make the hammock a bit more comfortable.

 

You will need some heavy rope. The ends of the hammock come together in a loop that you then need a piece of rope to attach from that to your anchor point, 2 pieces 3-4 feet should be plenty for Freedom class and 1-2 feet for Oasis class.

 

Oasis class was easy for an anchor point as there are support poles that are accessible above the balcony. For the Freedom class you need to bring a pair of small C clamps to attach to the girders above. We had an aft falconry on Enchantment that I think we also needed the C clamps for.

With all the sun and busy port days we try to nap a bit in late afternoon. Love a good nap on vacation.

 

When we first started cruising we did not want to miss anything so we were up and busy until we fell into bed. We needed a vacation from non stop action. Over time we learned to relax more and not worry if we missed an activity.

On one cruise my wife had commented that she was tired after our first nights dinner, but really wanted to stay awake for something we wanted to go see. Our waiter overheard, and brought her over a complimentary espresso. That was really nice of her, and maybe it was because it was her first time since being promoted to waiter, or because the ship was nowhere near capacity, and she generally only had 4 people to really help, but she was probably our favorite wait staff we've ever had.

It's a vacation and there's nothing worse for me than coming back feeling so exhausted that I feel like I never HAD a vacation.

 

Some days we nap, some days we are ready to turn in by 11 pm.

 

Every day is different and that's what is so great about a cruise. Check out the compass the night before and then plan your day.

You really have to be careful with naps. You can read all

about it online...blah blah blah.


Limit your naps to two total hours regardless of if you are asleep at all.

Make yourself get up no matter what after the two hours. No matter what!

You will NOT want to do this, you will be grouchiest for about one hour. Careful to be quiet, yes, very very quiet

to your other half....no quarreling, be QUIET.

You will be astonished how you will feel for rest of the night! Try it, You will like it...follow directions!

Not really an issue for me. After 32 years of shift work I'm just used to staying up extended hours. When working night shift (almost half of the year) I generally average 3 days a week when I am up for 24+ hours, so I lose 3 "nights" of sleep every two weeks. Naps have never worked for me, I usually end up more tired for the entire night.

It may be a little like preparing for a time change (Standard Time, Daylight Saving Time.) A week before the cruise, delay bedtimes, but don't oversleep and miss embarkation! :eek:

I've been practicing my drinking this wkd so I can keep up on the cruise..

 

I wonder if they have rum Chata. Love it with coffee!

I'm one of those rare people that has a hard time napping. If I do- I usually sleep too long-hour or more-and wake up with a headache and feeling hung over feeling. Hard to get going again- So, I rarely get to stay up till 11pm or so. My husband can fall a sleep anywhere-and has- he stays up till 2-3 in the casino, has a blast-sleeps for 4-5 hours-up-ready to go!;)

 

I'm one of the rare ones and my wife is the one that sleep anywhere anytime. I'll just tough it out, but I'm rarely up past midnight unless a sea day follows. Even Quest is usually done by 12:30 to 1. BTW, I'll wave as we drive through Savannah on our way to our next Road Trip /Cruise.

Not alone! Sometimes on the rare occasion that I do take a nap, I usually end up feeling more tired than I did to begin with. And these are short, cat-naps.

 

I will admit though, that taking longer cruises the past couple of years (B2Bs) has really helped me unwind, because I don't feel like I have to cram everything into my day, and I've begun to enjoy naps. The only downside is they're usually after a late afternoon graze through the WJ. Just a little something to tide us over until late dinner, sometimes turns into a cheeseburger and some of those crispy fries. (Is it the salty sea air that makes those WJ cheeseburgers taste good?! :eek:)
