Sharing drinks packages

Recommended Posts

I stand by my comments. We can go back & forth on this and talk past one another. Besides, what I offer and who I order it for is between myself and my bartender. If you don't think a bartender will not serve you two drinks on one sea pass bev pkg, you would be wrong... period. It's been done on every cruise I've been on. It all depends on how you handle yourself.

Most people who steal, will justify the reason. Most people on the board, justify it because it is expensive. Some justify it because they didn't like the drink, but it was the wife's favorite. Others justify it because the cruise line charged them for laundry service. You name it, it is used to justify it. But at the end of the day, it is still theft. Ask the kid why they stole the piece of candy. They will give you an answer. It could be something easy like, I had no money. Or maybe something really funny like, my girlfriend wanted it. Does it matter what the justification is? No. Because it is and will be theft. So if you handle yourself as a "gentleman" while stealing, it's ok?

Not all of those are actually rules, but yes, the ones that are I would love to see enforced. I don't agree that people in the theater who try to save seats should be escorted out, just made to give up those extra seats. Have no clue what a "huny" might be.

a huny is used in some countries as a term of endearment to describe ones husband/wife/gf etc

You are correct that ship's prices are like "ball park" price or theme park, or concerts....the problem is...you are on a SHIP for MUCH MORE than 3-5 hours! The prices ARE too high, for a place where you're LIVING for a week!

Two easy solutions. 1) Don't cruise or 2) If you do cruise then don't drink on board.

See how easy it is to avoid the problem?

I am in favor of the cruise lines just charging for alchol drink packages per cabin. One price and everyone in the cabin gets a sticker, age considered, of course. Double the current price, if necessary. We pay for two packages anyway.

I'm not, my DH really isn't much of a drinker - maybe 2 or 3 for the whole cruise! So he gets a soda package and pays a la carte for any alcoholic drinks he orders. I manage not to share my package with him. We also don't bring on any drinks other than the 2 allowed bottles of wine. I think it's odd that a previous poster suggested that 'drink package police' all break that rule. Some of us just follow the rules of the cruise agreement we've entered into

I think the word you're looking for is 'honey'

nope read back the word used by original poster was huny not honey. The other poster said they didn't know what huny meant and I explained what it meant. Also I said in some countries NOT all countries and it is usually shortened to hun where I live and usually contains two n's but can be spelt with one n. If you do an internet search it will bring it up for you.

Almost every single one of those is a non sequitur.

There is no rule about collared shirts.

Yes, I do want people to be told to remove ball caps.

Yes, I want people to be told not to wear shorts in the MDR at dinner.

There is no rule about sandals.

Yes, I want them to enforce the rule about the use of lounge chairs.

What's a huny?

There is no rule about the timing of specialty restaurant reservations.

Yes, I want the rule about no saving of seats in the theater enforced.

Do you have any more?

I love it! I also want to know what a huny is??:D

Well since we got the select package as part of our booking and we can no longer upgrade it to Premium making this cruise cost significantly more than before, I am tempted to share a package! I am kidding of course but they are going to drive people to do that. $55/nt is outrageous compared to the $39.

Maybe the increase is to cover all the sharing.;)

I'be told this before. Tables are so close together in the MDR that one can't help hearing other conversations. Couple at the next table said they originally bought two packages but immediately got a refund on one since they realized they needed only one. He was having the beer and she the wine. I think that could be called The Premium Sharing Package, or would it be just Select?:D

I have to chime in to say my fiance and I frequently share to save money and because portions in the US are giant. (ie; ordering 1 entree with 2 plates at a restaurant, sharing a coke). I see the cheating of getting 2 drinks and handing one off to a non-package member, but on my last cruise my fiance had the royal replenish, mostly for the virgin mixed drinks, which we would share (literally share the one drink) frequently. If royal really wanted to prevent theft/sharing they would make a reasonable drink limit of 15, like carnival. I was able to enjoy the drinks but at no point felt like I was pulling a fast one on the giant RCCL.

So shoot me. Do you think I give a flip? The fact is I have cruised 5 or 6 times and each time I've purchased two packages. One for me & one for the DW. You didn't read this, if you did you don't comprehend well. I've also bought a drink for a cruiser or two while the bartender knows this. And even heard it said, "Let me get this round". It's none of your business Mr./Mrs HolierThanThou how & who I buy I drink for. If my bartender understands this, I'm good. If you don't, I don't care. For in my world what I'm doing isn't theft. If you think it is,then that's on you for being so closed minded that you can't be of reasonable mind to comprehend. When you're on your next cruise, just cruise. Chill and enjoy it laying no attempts of failed guilt trips on others. :D

A fact: Drink packages are to be used for drinks for the owner of the package and no one else. If Celebrity had any guts, the bartender should be fired and your package should be revoked. It's apparent that the guy losing his job would have no affect on you, you got what you wanted, to impress everybody by being a big shot. If you can't afford the drinks, stealing isn't the answer, maybe you should stay home.

Wow.

When I get these packages, I buy 2 separate -- one for DH and the other for me.

However, I also mind my own dang business  I know this is a difficult concept for many CCers to grasp  but it has always served me well :)

If they're gonna' come and brag how they beat the system, I'm not gonna' criticize anyone for harping about it. Just sayin...

I bought a package for myself and not my wife just last week. She's not a big drinker and brought a couple bottles of wine. She ended up really liking the frozen mojitos and it was inconvient to get wine from the room, so she was buying drinks on her own at times.

I must have been given 10-12 free drinks for using my sea pass which had the package. I would order 2 drinks and they would give me 1 for free every time. This was from multiple bar tenders in multiple areas. I wasn't scamming the system, I wasn't stealing. I didn't ask them for a free drink, I actually said bill me of the second drink multiple times. One bartender told me come back in 5 mins to swipe my card again because he couldn't do both at the same time but gave me a cocktail and a glass of wine on the spot. I always tipped for my package drinks and it was generally frozen drinks they were giving away, so maybe that had something to do with it.

So if only 1 of you is buying a package, free drinks seem to be par for the course for the ship I was on, which was one of the bigger ones.

Speaking of losing their jobs, tell us what bartender, when it happened, what ship, what sail date you personally know that has been fired. You can't, because you don't know. You THINK you know, but you don't. Just like you think you know that I steal. You don't know that either. Ignorance is bliss.

Live & let die.

Another shared drink package thread... It's the gift that keeps on giving!

How clever of the OP to lure you in with the misleading title of " Sharing drinks packages", thus forcing you to read and post...
