Bidding for Haven/Upgrades

Got answers to a few questions, not others (and its important to note this is still in test, could change tomorrow)

You will only get an email if there is an upgrade available for your cabin class and fare combo (for example, CAS is not eligible, as are certain promo fares) - this is the same as basically being told no upsell for you.

There is no guarantee there will be a winning bid for any cabin class, if that cabin is sold prior to auction close bids will be discarded.

If multiple cabins available in class, bids will win in descending order until all rooms assigned.

Could not get answer to:

Is there any way to request a different cabin if you win..

As close date gets closer, will there be active bidding against winning bids or will it continue to be bling bidding.

I got a different answer regarding CAS, my rep and the Miami office both told me CAS will be included albeit as A lottery. Make that 3 confirmations, just got email from CAS supervisor "house" accounts (CAS) are included

On a side note - per a discussion on other forum..

Yes, this benefits the line, but there is one big benefit to a group of passengers. Right now, upsells seem to be almost based on who you get and when you call, an inherently unfair process. The bidding system gives every interested party an equal shot at upgrades at their price tolerance point.

We sail in 7 weeks and have been called and offered upsells to the Haven on 2 of our past cruises, we will be watching for an email from them to hopefully stay in the Haven again. Bidding for a cabin will be different, we paid the same amount for both of our past upsells, I'll post back if we receive anything

Very interesting. I could easily see people bidding higher than they would pay normally. Seems kind of fun though. Right now I'm in an inside on Epic. I would have to pay $1k More for 2 people to get a balcony outright. If I could bid $500 instead, I'm not sure I would do that either.

How is cabin class defined? Can you go from balcony to mini or mini to full suite or only within category like a BB to B1?

Thank you for this information.

Will we be able to tell what the actual current bid is when bidding or is it all blind?

Thank you.

By Lottery, do you mean they will just send the opportunity to bid to a small group of CAS cruisers?

Not sure on that point. I am assuming its meta-class (Balcony to Mini for example) - Unfortunately my best contact there is only tangentally involved in this.

I got one of the emails for my December trip and put in a minimum bid for a spa suite. You can choose several different categories and put in bids for them all at once. There is a minimum bid amount and it is a per person amount but they only charge for the first two people, if you are solo they will charge the double rate.

So I put in the minimum bid of $300/person that was required and if it is accepted my card will be charged $600 immediately and I will be notified by email. I can retract my bid or change it at any time with a link as long as it has not yet been accepted.

You do not see if anyone else has bid on the class of cabin you want or what current other bids are, it is a blind bid process. They do show you a little gauge that's supposed to tell you how good your bid is and, of course, the higher you bid the more into green it gets.

Thank you for this information. So, if they "like" your offer, they will immediately charge your card and not wait until 3 days before and I like that you can retract. I may start a little under what I am comfortable paying and if not accepted go up to what I would want to pay for an upsell if I called.

Thank you very much for your helpful post and GOOD LUCK!

It does sound like if you go the max they're more likely to accept quickly. Thanks, I hope I get it!

if they charge your card is that a gurantee you have the cabin?

They won't charge early. Bids close 3 days out and then they will charge whoever wins.

If you get charged, you were high bidder (not sure what happens with ties) and got an upgrade.

Sure they'll charge early, if you go to the max bid why wouldn't they? It's a sliding scale with a minimum bid and a maximum bid (for example the spa suite was $300 up to $1,500) so if you just go right to the max then they have no reason wait.

No the lottery is all house reservations which fall under NCL including CAS so it would be the entire pool of reservations, pot luck for all.

I hadn't tried upsell yet, but was looking forward to it.....and now it changes :)

Hopefully they aren't basing your bid on what your originally 'paid' for the room, but what going from category to category would be. This should be interesting. Can't wait to hear back from the first ones who go through this process. Thanks for the info!

Obviously they are to an extent: Rule #4 limits you to bidding two cabin classes above current cabin. That still is a bit vague. Do they mean B4 can only go to B2 or any Balcony can go to any Mini Suite or any Haven. I assume then the absolute best an Ocean View can ever do is Mini Suite. I hope this never becomes fleet wide as I will never give them permission to lock me into basically a guaranty cabin, no mater what the level. Current upsell was/is same cost no mater how many classes you increased. Perhaps that wasn't fair, but this is extremely limiting and overly complicated by forcing a trickle down cascade of upselling. I cannot see a circumstance I would want to use it.

They will wait until posted date.

After all, they might still sell it as a new booking for even higher total than the max bid...

The system they use sounds exactly like the one I know from an airline. You can bid for upgrade and even adjust your bid amount until deadline.

Once deadline passes they will charge the cc of the highest bidder(s) and the cabin is sold - no way to decline the upgrade once deadline passes and cc is charged.

The major difference between these auctions and the old way (upsell dept) is that you will not know deck or cabin number beforehand. Major difference other than max profit from all upsells that is...

I got an email yesterday!

Joanne

I was thinking about this cruise. My daughter is in California and I'm in Michigan and she said this would be the only week she could go on a cruise this year. I thought about the Escape but they must have it chartered because it's not available. I just can't decide if I'm happy with the current prices. And I was looking forward to trying to call upsell and see if I could get lucky and get a deal on a Haven. But now they go and change the process.

I booked an MX guarantee at a great rate with free 3rd passenger, the 4 meal SDP, and UBP. Maybe NCL figures they already gave me a good deal and that's why I didn't get the email.

I'm happy with the cabin I was assigned but would have been tempted to bid for a haven upgrade.

How did you get 3 perks with guarantee room? Do you mind me asking what was the rate and on which sailing? I am looking for a great deal for sometime this year for 3 of us but it seems the only really good deals are minus any of the perks.

thanks
