ccndfw Posted June 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 9, 2017 Was it crazy busy? It was very busy, but the line moved fast. Once we ordered, we waited about 2-3 minutes for a table inside and our food arrived as we were sitting down. Don't let a longer line deter you... JoRoy218 Posted June 14, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 14, 2017 It's not IN Ketchikan, but the best we experienced was the George Inlet Lodge (about a 20 min bus ride away). We were there last Thursday. You can just do the lunch (they will pick you up at the dock) or combine with an excursion (seaplane, etc.). Crab was great and all you care to eat! Funny, this is actually the only excursion I'm set on so far. I don't know if we should do the boat or plan ride though. Sent from my iPhone using Forums There are a lot better float plane rides you can take. Unless you just want a "ride" because you have never been in a floatplane, I hardly find the up charge worth much. I'd suggest just using their road shuttle service and book flight seeing separate. Budget Queen Posted June 22, 2017 #14 Share Posted June 22, 2017 I happen to like Alava's for halibut, on the side of the tunnel.
cruiseguy1016 Posted June 22, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 22, 2017 I had Dungeness crab at the Alaska Fish house last week. Good food, good atmosphere. Not overly crowded.
Liz Masterson Posted June 22, 2017 #16 Share Posted June 22, 2017 While on the topic of crab legs. I'm in Ketchican July 12. Would love crab legs. I know king crab are out of season but Dungeness are in. What's the difference. I'm down on the Chesapeake and we have nice soft shell crabs. Hmmm hmmm! In my opinion, and those of the people with me, Dungeness crab tastes more like Maine lobster than it does crab.
alwaysfrantic Posted June 23, 2017 #18 Share Posted June 23, 2017 I happen to like Alava's for halibut, on the side of the tunnel. I agree! We loved it there and the local fellow that was there at the same time told great stories. The fish and onion rings were so great.

DougH Posted June 23, 2017 #21 Share Posted June 23, 2017 Funny, this is actually the only excursion I'm set on so far. I don't know if we should do the boat or plan ride though. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I did this a couple of weeks ago and ate more crab than I have in my entire life. Very nice, my Mom would have been in heaven and eaten enough to put them out of business. I did a bus ride there with the flight back and actually wished I had done the boat ride. Flight was nice but short.
DougH Posted June 23, 2017 #22 Share Posted June 23, 2017 I happen to like Alava's for halibut, on the side of the tunnel. I finally got a chance to try them as they always seem to open a little late. Well worth the stop, fantastic portion of fish and chips. Will try more next visit

Flight was nice but short. I think I'm leaning more towards the boat ride now, rather than plane. I do want to do a float plane ride somewhere though, just need to figure out which port/company to do it with.
zdcatc12 Posted June 28, 2017 #24 Share Posted June 28, 2017 If you are a Deadliest Catch fan, you can eat at Dwyer's. It is owned by Sean's family and all profits go to the ALS Foundation.
