Disappointed with RCL/Allure.

Recommended Posts

My first RCL cruise and disappointed with it.

I am on the July 30th sailing and after just the first day I'm not feeling it. Been on 4 NCL cruises and loved them. Was expecting more from RCL but it's falling short on my first day.

I have a suite and also purchased 2 more rooms for family. 2 rooms with 2 people in each.

I wanted my mom to be able to stay in my room to help me watch my 5 year old, but booked her late and got her another room.

I asked my stateroom attendant to set an extra bed on the couch for my mom to stay on the nights I'm in the casino or just out drunk, and he's giving me a hard time. Giving me looks when I asked for an additional pillow and blanket for my mom.

He gives funny looks and remarks 'she's staying here too?! I need to check with my supervisors etc,and see if this is ok.' Man really irked me. Said he'll let me know if that's ok tomorrow.

Ive never ran into that issue on NCL. They just smile and set up a spare bed for me. No questions, looks or remarks.

Also the crew seems so unfriendly and distant. I was walking and had finished a drink, saw an employee with a tray and asked if he could take my glass because I didn't want to just leave it on the ground. He just gave me a dirty look and took my glass with disdain.

Minutes later saw the same guy laughing and doing nothing with 4 other employees by the elevator. Really pissed me off.

Not to mention the included food choices are not good compared to NCL. My kids are already complaining saying the same thing.

Also after 11pm the only thing you can eat is room service, the pizza place or the cafe with pre-made sandwiches. On NCL there's so many options at the same time.

Just venting and just not happy after just one day.

So obviously the other two cabins are no suites? I doubt that they will allow a non suite guest in a suite.

As MerionMom asked: Does your suite have triple accomodation? They are not allowed to squeeze in more than the maximum passenger count for one room.

And your mother´s room might be in a different muster area.

As for the food... o.k., I never had the desire to eat past 11 pm... Promenade Café is open 24/7 which is not comparable to O´Sheehan´s on NCL. But you get a bite there.

Foodwise I disagree... IMHO RCI has the better food... When you stay in a suite you can also use Coastal Kitchen in the suite lounge. Excellent food there. But your travel companions not staying in a suite can´t go there.

On the Allure this past spring & couldn't disagree with you more. Our cabin steward was just great! Very personable, always greeted us by name, always smiling. Our dinners were always good too. There wasn't one meal that we didn't enjoy. While pool servers were not always around, walking to the bar to get a drink didn't take very long either.

Sorry you didn't enjoy this cruise. Alot of people never get to go on one, so be thankful you're one of the fortunate ones.

But you have to have something good to eat while posting complaints.

Speak up now and get this issue with your cabin attendant resolved. You still have plenty of cruise left and you can turn this around. It does make a huge difference if you have an issue with your attendant. Others who haven't just don't get it and can't imagine what the fuss is..lol.

If you have a legitimate gripe with your attendant, complain. Give him a chance to do his job first though. The first day is very long and busy for them.

After only 14 hrs on the ship and you are reviewing food. Give it a chance.

If that person with the tray had food or drink on it, they are not allowed to put dirty dishes on it.

You have a problem with an employee laughing?

We had a wonderful experience on Allure, with wonderful service levels provided by the crew at every interaction.

I hope your experience improves, and you have a great vacation.

I have better things to do on vacation than to let something so irrelevant get me "really pissed off".... It would never occur to me to stop while walking and ask an employee to take my glass, the nearest bar is always just around the corner and you can sit it there.

Half a day into the cruise and the food already sucks? Sounds like your kids are going to grow up as hard to please and bitter as you.

I get where a lot of you are coming from. I'm just not happy with the looks and replies I was getting from my steward and the employee that I asked to take my glass.

Maybe I just had too high expectations for my first RCL cruise.

My suite does not have a sofa bed. I asked for a pillow and blanket so my mom can watch my son while I'm out. Why is that a big deal? Hey if it is, fine; why have a pissed off look and curt response to my request? Maybe if he was more polite in his response it wouldn't have bothered me. Same for the employee with an empty tray. If you can't or don't want to take my glass say so. Don't grab it look away from me with disdain, like I asked you to take the garbage out.

The cruise lines are all about hospitality, and I didn't get that feeling.

Maybe the poster that said I should stop comparing cruises is right. But it's hard not to compare food when that's one of the main draws of a cruise.

Just because some people don't eat past 11pm doesn't man others don't. And the choices are pathetic after 11.

And yeah I'd like to eat something good after I've been gambling. RCL loves passengers like me, that's why they comp me a suite.

I just got back from my first NCL cruise, after only sailing Royal Caribbean, so I understand how it is easy to compare everything as you go, but you have to give it a chance. The first day can be stressful because everything seems so different, but things will bet better as you get used to how Royal Caribbean does stuff. The food choices are different, but there is lots to choose from on Allure, the hours just aren't as late as NCL.

As far as the couch in your suite, what kind of cabin are you in? Royal Suite Class on Allure has great perks depending on the level of suite you are in. Those perks are for those booked in the suite though, so that might be why the cabin steward was hesitant.

Take a deep breath, grab a latte or a mocha, and explore that beautiful ship.

If you are in a suite above a JS you get free room service with no charge. That is another option that should be better than the two that you mentioned. Last time we were on Allure they also had the small individual pizza that they would make to order.

As for your mom watching over your kid, why doesn't she lay on your bed until you get in. Then she can head back to her cabin when you return.

As for RC loving passengers like you due to gambling, that is neither here nor there. They give you a "free" cabin because you have to play to play each and every day and the law of averages means that they are further ahead.

Been on Allure so countless times and always have an amazing time on her... for me the best ship on the fleet with the friendliest crew ever...

Reading your post, you sound like a trouble sailing... The solution to your problem is way easy... GO BACK TO NCL...

I feel that there is a pervasive expectation that passengers can have anything they desire at anytime. There are restrictions that staff have to follow, and it is unfair to criticize the cabin attendant who had to,get clearance for a request. He really is between a rock and a hard place with needing to please a guest and following company policies. His "disdain" may have been his feeling of conflict not his hesitancy to just give an extra blanket and pillow! Working with the public, I know I will do whatever I CAN do to make them happy but not risk an unsafe situation or my position for not following policies. The crew member with the empty tray... Probably the same thing. His tray may have been considered a clean try, not one for used glassware. I mean would you want your beverages next to a dirty glass? He might have been thinking, how can I collect dirty glassware while on my way to fill other drink orders? Things aren't always what they seem. Allure is a beautiful ship and we found to have some of the happiest crew members. Enjoy your vacation. It would be a waste not to.

That's what I was thinking..

If this is your first RC cruise, how do they know they love you so much, based on your casino play, that they comped you a suite. I have been on these boards a very long time and have NEVER heard of such.

No idea what type of suite you have. However, steward cannot just add another bed/passenger, even if sleeping on the couch. Cabins have a set number of passengers based on muster stations, life boat capacity. He was following safety rules and could have been in trouble for doing this. How come your mom can't just rest on the couch or your bed and return to her own stateroom? Or babysit in her own cabin based on number of berths, if she has allowed room?

You don't mention if you are using suite lounge/concierge, so perhaps you have a junior suite, so would need to talk to guest services as you don't have a concierge and not a "real suite."

Sorry you are already so angry. Too early in your cruise to be complaining about food.
