Anthem and Noro - sailing today?

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else on the Anthem of the seas 11/4-11/11 notice that the ship was very warm except the casino??..from day 1 when we boarded it was very warm Even the theatre was warm..they should have the AC on the keep the germs down

Yes it was very warm and our room wouldn't go below 68 which made it impossible for me to sleep. I am a person who sleeps with the room freezing.

And back to the fruit in drinks. When you pay $54 a day for the drink package and cant get your drinks of choice its a problem. They should have absolutely worked in pairs or perhaps used tongs to serve that. Containers are not supposed to be open to air either, I worked in a restaurant.

So in the other thread you deny you want any compensation but here your son is trying to get his drink package refunded? If that's the case I really hope he didn't have anything to drink for those 2 days.

On anthem now, just pulling into port canaveral.

Still not putting fruit in drinks, freestyle machines manned by a crew member everywhere except the seaplex😱

Lots of cleaning constantly but sugar packets out in wj, iPads still not out, hand sanitizer to get in casino, they are serving you everything in 270 so long lines for drinks.

We are healthy and have heard nothing other than washy washy.

So they are being careful still. I was surprised they never removed the ketchup and mustard bottles from the hot dog shop. I sure did not want to touch that

It has taken me 2 weeks to recover from my 10/28 sailing!!! :( So glad we didn't have as many people affected as the 11/4 sailing. My cousin wasn't as affected as me while on the sailing and did not see the doctor on board. However, she suffered with more distress/sympthoms after returning home. I guess there is no telling when you will be "hit" once you are exposed to Noro. I passed along the recommended foods/treatment to follow that I received from the doctor's office while on board. Again, at least it was at the end of the sailing and not the beginning.

I've never been sick on a cruise, but do know how sick a virus can make someone. What do they do on the day you disembark if you are too sick to get out of bed? I know you have to leave, but do they push you out in a wheelchair? How do you get to transportation? Surely you cannot get on a plane and fly home if you are that ill. I've been that ill and cannot imagine even trying to stand. What happens?

I'm wondering the same thing.

They just assume that if you can consume a hot dog you're probably immune. :D

We were docked next to the Anthem while on the Majesty last week. We were advised not to mingle with the passengers or crew of the Anthem due to the outbreak.

I have NEVER heard of something like this. Not to talk to passengers or crew? Did they wear special buttons that said “possibly contaminated” so you would know? Just trying to understand.

While it is certainly true that kids tend to be germ spreaders, many adults are worse at flaunting the rules by not following basic rules for washing your hands after using the bathroom. I wonder why Anthem does not have hand dryers in the public restrooms. This would also help with controlling germs.

MARAPRINCE

"Those jet hand dryers might dry your hands super fast and make you feel like you’re living in the future, but they might be making others around you sick. A study published in January in the Journal of Applied Microbiology compared the dispersal of viruses when people dry their hands with paper towels, warm air dryers, and jet dryers, and found that jet air dryers were by far the worst offenders, spraying 1,300 times more viral plaques (clumps of viruses) than paper towels, and sending some of them nearly 10 feet from the dryer itself."

North Star bar serving mojitos using mint leaves stored in a covered canister. Salt and pepper shakers on WJ tables. A crew member told me this morning that, if all goes well by the end of today, they can relax a bit on the constant cleaning. I would take that to mean that there haven't been a lot (or maybe none) cases of norovirus on this sailing. We will never really know for sue, though, as I am sure there are people who don't report it.

The word is starting to get out in the press.

You know I don't get these people going after compensation. The cruise line didn't make them sick. A sick passenger did. As well as any who didn't report it to medical staff or quarantine themselves right away.

From all the complaints on here about everything being shut down and all the cleaning. People complaining they couldn't get a mojito. Sure sounds like the cruise line was doing everything they could.

It's really like the cruise line can't win. People want to be compensated if things are closed and they can't get mint in their drink. And people want to be compensated if they get sick.

I get it. It sucks if you get infected. But don't expect the cruise line to pay you for that.

Only 98 reported cases while onboard? Granted there were people who didn't report their illness, but that's a far cry from the rumor of 6-8% that I heard ( I'm well aware it was only a rumor). It'll be interesting to find out more, but if that's accurate, while it sucks for the people that did get it, then the "outbreak" was not nearly as bad as it was made out to be.

It certainly could have been a lot worse. They step up their protocols based on number of reported cases, which is why the efforts escalated over the course of the week.

What's left? Spray the passengers before the board the ship in NJ!!!!

People will not report that they are ill since they do not want to be put in isolation. Sick passengers (not isolated) continue to spread their germs to others. That is how it is spread and Anthem with over 4,000+ passengers is the perfect breeding ground. Kids unknowlingly are one of the largest source because they are constantly putting things (including fingers and hands) in their mouths. No one can you watch everything they do every minute of the day.

I can understand people getting frustrated about getting to cabins so late. But I would be thankful they were doing such a thorough job at cleaning.

Anyone upset about any precautions has never had a full blown case of norovirus. My whole family came down with it 2 years ago after going to get our christmas trees and having lunch together. Me, my husband, my sister, her husband, and my mom. My dad was spared.

NEVER been that sick before in my life. It thankfully doesn't last long, but it's some seriously unpleasant stuff. I'm terrified to contract it again.

If you're so ill that you can't stand, I'm sure they have procedures to assist with getting off the ship. Once you're off the ship, you handle it like you would any other time. If you need a plane to get home but can't fly, you get a hotel room until you can. If you can't handle driving yourself, you call a cab. If a cab ride seems risky, you find a hotel within walking distance. If walking is difficult, you do your best and make stops. If you're too sick to do anything at all, you call an ambulance and go to the hospital.

There's no magic solution.

Ok So...

for me.. I go on every cruise as if The ship had a noro outbreak ( I hate the word noro, to me I just think of it like the flu)

At any rate. I always wash my hands with soap. I dont eat with my hands. Although nothing is perfect, if you take the greatest amount of care... you can hope for the best outcome. And honestly. Even if the ship would put out letters on day one, would it prevent you from going? Or would you only then become more diligent? And as others have said. The ship does not get the virus, the people do. some accidentally, and some people are just gross disgusting humans. LIke the ones that go through the buffet, eating off their plate with their fingers, shoving food in their mouth like its their last meal and then going to the next station and grabbing the serving spoon. They might as well put the damn spoon in their mouth and put it back, it basically the same thing.

Then there are the people that shove their dirty water bottle directly into the spout to fill it.

As long as there are classless people with no manners and people who are not super diligent about their surroundings people will continue to get sick and these types of things will continue to happen. Unfortunate but true
