On our Infinity cruise there was a scruffy looking older man that wore shorts, nasty sandals and ratty T's to dinner in Blu quite a few evenings. He certainly got a few "looks" from the other guests but the staff obviously never said anything to him.

On our recent Celebrity cruise we docked in Aruba around 4 pm and we got off the ship, walked around, went to two casinos and decided that nothing caught our eye for dinner and went back to the ship.

We right to the dining room, fearing that they might be closing soon.

It wasn't until we left that we realized that dh was .......

in shorts! We were laughing as we left and the hostess was laughing too, saying "don't worry about it....we don't care."

Celebrity is a lot more lax than the Canadian Military college where "jeans" are not smart casual and can get you in big trouble LOL

Good to see that someone actually enforces its dress code.

Possible he didn't get his luggage....

Hi

Good point on the first night - I’ll tell him he can wear his shorts then but pants the rest of the cruise

Thank you

Assuming you will be dining in Luminae on the first night I would not have him wear shorts. On our Alaskan cruise last July a neatly dressed gentleman in shorts was told he would need to change. Shorts were okay in Luminae at lunch. My husband frequently wears nice, dark jeans with a jacket to Luminae.

Hi

This will be our first cruise on Celebrity. We normally cruise Royal Caribbean.

We have booked a Royal Suite on Celebrity Reflection so will be eating in either Luminae or Specialty Restaurants

I see online it states the dress code as men needing to wear pants for dinner. This is similar to what it said on Royal Caribbean’s website as well.

I’m looking for what people actually do.

We were on Anthem recently in a Grand Suite so ate mainly in Coastal Kitchen (similar to Luminae) and I was surprised to see many people in shorts and T Shirts. Often not even nice shorts.

What other people wear doesn’t impact my enjoyment, but if people are more casual than the website states, I would rather know in advance.

If my husband can wear his nice shorts and a button down top to dinner, he’ll be happier than wearing pants. But he’ll wear whatever he’s supposed to.

Let me know what your experience has been. Are some restaurants more formal than others?

Thank you

Noreen

Shorts are NOT allowed at night except in the buffet. I think that rule goes for RCCL as well. You'd do well to try reading the rules & regs. that come with every cruise line pax go on. It could help end some of these tedious threads, which I think are started on purpose to cause problems.

I did read the rules and this was not meant to start a tedious thread. If you feel that way, you can just skip over it.

I was looking for people’s actual experience since it often differs from the posted rules.

My recent cruise on Anthem we saw many people in shorts and t shirts for dinner in Coastal Kitchen and I want to know what to expect on Celebrity.

Many people responded with factual info of their experiences which was what I was looking for.

I am sure you will enjoy your celebrity cruise. We really did-much more then our quantum cruise. But just be prepared tot wear long pants- Most people bring carry-on's so put a pair on pants in yours. So it is a non-issue.

Have a great cruise.

I hate to throw a wrench in things, but Solstice was allowing shorts in Sushi on 5 at dinner on port overnights in November... I can see why, people hop on board for a quick meal, & then head back out on the town.

flame retardant suit donned & ready :D

I am on the solstice right now and it says LONG SLEEVE SPORT SHIRT, for Smart Casual.

It's wrong. Any ship that tried to enforce that would provoke a riot.

I don't get why some don't read Celebrity's published dress guidelines. In our opinion there are plenty of options.

Perhaps they know Celebrity does not follow many of the published policies and they were asking for passengers recent experiences.

I've see those dailies and wonder where that whole long sleeve thing comes from, been wearing short sleeves on Celebrity ships for 25 years and never had anyone say a word.

Where does it say it? More importantly, are they enforcing it? It's not a Celebrity requirement for Evening Chic, let alone Smart Casual.

Previously, posters have put on this board pictures of the section of the dress code from the dailies on several ships. It clearly says long sleeves which as you state is not in line with the cruise lines policies. Sort of like the ships having 3 evening chic nights when the web site clearly states there shall be no more than two. I suppose that the thing about the sleeves was dug out from some old printing of the dailies. Fortunately, no one has said it has been enforced.

Windstar and Viking Cruise lines have dress codes that make sense smart casual for dinner. Everyone needs to remember it’s a vacation. I sorry that you live in a town where you don’t have a opportunity to get dress up once in a while.

Could it be they are trying to exclude tank tops / sleeveless shirts? Maybe it would better if they said shirts with sleeves.

Actually, just checked the web site and it has been changed, it now reads under smart casual that men should wear long sleeve shirts. Did not say this a couple of weeks ago..I predict this will not last long if it's ever enforced.

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

  • Pants or jeans with a long sleeve sport shirt.
