Question about price for those willing to share....

The 2 maiden voyages (12/9 and 12/16) both had some price drops this week of $100-$300 PP for verandas and more for some suites. The 12/16 Edge Villa was down $2000 PP (now only $15,799PP). Maybe it was just the sale of the week. I also wouldn't be surprised to see some price drops after final payment is due. I wish we could be more flexible with dates.

 

Right now, our Dec 1 , 3 day cruise is $400pp more than what we paid for an IV, when the cabins first opened up. Yesterday, checked to see if we could upgrade to a AQ, got a quote from our TA for an upcharge of $600pp. And there were at least 5 available.. I don't see Celebrity softening pricing unless there are a lot of cancellations at time of final payment.

True about initial pricing - my S1 on my 1/20 cruise is still double what I paid, but is down $300 this week (though a drop in the bucket). :D

AQ Guarantee with one perk is listed at $ 8,311.92, for 2 guests

We are paying $ 3498 for 2.. big difference.

The Sunset Veranda for Nov 15, 2019 ABC cruise has one ..maybe two available at $ 3,099 pp We are paying $2, 899...not huge spead but we have a better location than the one available on our deck.

 

The AQ Class rooms on this cruise are listed at $ 4,349 pp, one perk....still unaffordable for us which is why we booked the SV.

 

We are planning to try Oceania next..due to an itin we like. After that, we'll see what develops with X as time passes.

I view airfares and cruise fares and resort pricing to be like the stock market, they go up and they go down according to demand for the product.

 

No one has yet provided what would be considered 'fair pricing' for X's product, only what 'they' would not pay for the product, currently.

 

It is evident, to me and a few other pragmatist around here and a whole lot more who are not, the pricing we have or will pay is fair and at a good price point. Would we like to see them possibly lower? You bet, but we will, in many instances continue to book at current levels and continue to fill the ships...

 

Then again,others are quite savvy at finding deals and sailing on other lines or changing how and where we travel altogether.

 

 

Since most of us, if any on CC, are not sitting at the desk or in the office where these decisions are being based and monitored, we cannot know what they are seeing to set the pricing at the levels where they are currently.

 

It is fun to speculate, for sure. Yet, I Am looking for some, even if vague, information where some think the price point needs to be to 'profitably' sustain this this type of business.

What I meant was that for the prices the Edge is commanding you can book cruises on some of the luxury lines for the same, or even less than Edge. Hard to say for sure without having been on Edge yet, but I feel that for the money I would prefer the luxury experience and I think a lot of other people would too. Or, people might stick to the older X ships (yes, I realize this option still puts money in X's pocket), or even try other lines offering better value (perceived or real).

 

If they have been profitable at say an average of $1850pp for an A1 for example, would they suddenly need to charge $4050pp to be profitable? I don't *feel* they do even with the expense of the new ships. I think it would be fair to pay $300-750pp more to sail on the Edge vs an S-Class ship. We were very lucky to book at the very beginning and paid exactly what we've been paying for the S-Class ships. The edge is the new "hotness" of the moment and people are willing to pay, so X is going to cash as any business would. But I'm afraid part of X's customer base either can't or won't pay the current prices to sail on the Edge.

 

I just looked at March 2020 sailings and see the prices are $1800 less for an S2 and $700 less for an A1. So perhaps when the Apex is launched we will see a dramatic shift in pricing for the Edge Class ships.

Well if anyone is interested.... according to one online TA that shows the specific cabins available. there are still about 150 veranda cabins (including C class) for the Dec 16 sailing. Prices for this cruise seem to be a lot better (although not cheap) than other sailings. So unless the TA is incorrect... still room for folks who want to go on one of the maiden voyages. I have not checked the Dec 9 sailing. The CEO will be on both...so I am guessing there will be some additional stuff for those who come on these two sailings. Price of 3E is about $2179/pp before taxes.... not the TA is not offering any perks... so there is that. The 90 day period is closing in fast... so that could increase cabin availability.

When APEX opens for bookings, if EDGE prices fall, that's when we might look for a suite on EDGE..right now, even AQ class is out of sight..

That sure is a great price! And you booked in June of 2018? We booked way back in mid-April of 2017 and paid just over $4100 for an A2 with go-best for the Mar. 24 sailing. Where did you find such a deal? Answer in a generic or cryptic way if you can...thanks! (Don't to break any rules )

Have just double checked and our cruise (including the flights, hotel and transfers) is still almost £2000 more than it was when we booked last April (I think it was). (See posts above)

 

The flights and stay has not changed, it is the cost of the cabin. The 2 cabins near us are still for sale and we really can not imagine paying that amount of money extra for our IV cabin - particularly, now we've seen more photos of what we would get for that money.

We're booked in an S1 corner aft on the 4/7/19 sailing. Booked in March '17 and paid $6600 total for two people with Go Best and $300 obc.  Same room is currently $12K for two people. So we're pretty happy with our price.

I booked through a TA and paid almost exactly 50% of the price that was listed on Celebrity's website.  Feel pretty happy about it

 If the future prices stay high we'll  evaluate value for us after our 2 booked cruises.

While not 'young' nor a 'millennial' X has attracted me and others in my demographic to the ship before the blocks were in the house....

 

I think X, as many other lines, are trying to attract those who are seeking a 'better' on-board experience without the amusement park attachment to the ship.

We are mid-30's (well, hubby is considered a millennial. I'm at the border with Gen X), and what we call DINK... Double income, no kids. We are middle class and . We are definitely young compared to the average age on Celebrity cruising.

 

We definitely can afford to sail on the Edge but we usually book as itinerary are released. We booked our S3 for both of us for less than what it is for 1pp now. I agree, 12k+ for a suite, we could not afford..

 

With evening chic (instead of formal, we have enough to do that at work), the lectures in Alaska, the glass show, the thematic specialty restaurants and the lack of slide and whatnot, Celebrity matches exactly what we are looking for.  We like cruising to disconnect from the office and be left alone as our respective bosses don't want to pay for the cell phone fees on a cruise 🙂

That’s great.   Most millennials I know(friends kids as we are Dual income no kids as well) don’t want to work forever so they are saving to retire very young.
