Tequila

My husband, the only thing he drinks is tequila. He gets double shots and sips them. My question is, will they serve double shots with or without cheers

We did buy a bottle for room, thinking he will sip on that throughout cruise, but considering Cheers because all those other drinks look so yummy, FOR ME! And I like beer and wine!

Does anyone know the cost for shot of tequila? Would the more expensive brands be available on cheers? I know different brands, different cost, but what might the cheapest be?

THnks!!

I have never had any trouble getting shot or double shots.

I was going to suggest the bottle for the room and I see your ahead of me.

When I look at this for myself the cheers is worth it and I get a bottle of rum for my room.

I KNOW I will drink more than 6 drinks a day so it works out for me to pre pay.

The price on your shots may very by variety or tequila. I want to say it was 7 or 8 bucks a shot last time I purchased but did I mention I have lots of drinks when I cruise ;)

Yes I share this in many Cheers threads because it helps you see if you will "break even". Kudos to whoever put it together!

But I also share that I like having Cheers because when a frozen drink melts down I don't feel wasteful if I order a fresh one. Plus I'm nore inclined to try something new becaue if I don't like it, again I'm not "wasting" money. As someone out here said, Cheers "Enhances" my experience!

And I purhcase Cheers ahead of time so I get the Carnival discount, Plus I used the 10% off gift card so I get another discount that way! Very much worth it to us because we pre-pay and we walk onto the ship with everything paid and not worrying about the bill that will be slid under the door at the end of the cruise!

I tend to recommend against Cheers for those who are undecided, but your situation sounds like it would actually make sense:D

If your husband enjoys sipping his tequila straight, the higher end brand might be a nice splurge and 3-4 shots would break even. You also want to try a variety of drinks, so it sounds like a win-win to me:beer-toast:

Cheers rules only allow one drink at a time, with a 5 minute wait before the next order on the same card. You might find a server (especially if it is a slower time or you give a nice tip) who will give both shots at once, but hold the card to run it the second time after the 5 minutes.

I've seen the bolded portion mentioned often on Cheers threads. Do you have a lot of drinks you don't finish? If so, do you come close to the 15 limit due to waste? (not a criticism, just curious:))

I think that link for drinks and prices is outdated, but thank you anyway. Yes, I am way tempted to do cheers so I can try lots of different concoctions :) I know on a current Dream review, they posted drinks prices and most beers were $6.50 and Tequila is more than listed on the attachment.

Don't forget the 15% gratuities as well so you need to take the $51.95 a day times the number of days times 1.15. If you want to "make ir a double" it's 3 bucks more

$800

Yep, rght around $419.00 for 7 nighter! That is why I'm undecided $800 for 2 of us...eek! I know hubby will get money worth, but I am going to feel like I have to drink my money's worth if i get it, which may not be a bad thing, hahaha!

I usually mention this in the Cheers or not to Cheers discussions...it does include specialty coffees, milkshakes, energy drinks, teas, soft drinks and bottled water from the bar.

It does seem like a lot up front (sometimes as much as the cabin lol) but for us at least, $50/day, on vacation, isn’t a bad deal for drinks. As others have mentioned, it’s nice to try new things and if you don’t like it you don’t feel obligated to keep drinking it.

My wife and I will drink enough alcoholic drinks to make worth our while. Adding in the coffees etc is a nice bonus.

But for folks that don't consume as much alcohol as we can/do, Cheers! might not be the appropriate solution. If I had three beers during the day (say $6 a piece) and two glasses of wine at night (say $10 ea), plus a couple of spiked specialty coffees (they about $6 each?), I think it might just even out. On port days it might not be worth it.

Fortunately (?) I drink a lot more than that, even on port days...

Well it is a done deal.

We got CHEERS!! It does sound nice to not worry about what you are spending and be able to drink any of the specialty drinks you want, whenever you want..

I will drink beer, wine and many yummy foo foo drinks. Not to mention coffee, waters, cokes, etc. So while I did not think it would be worth it for ME, especially with 4 ports, we splurged and did it. GULP GULP!

CHEERS!!

Remember it's not a contest. One day I was not feeling well and did not drink much one day. I was not lamenting all day about not getting my money's worth. We find Cheers very convenient. Every time we pass a bar we get a water and keep a nice stash in our cabin. Powerade's are great for hang overs, adding those electrolytes, helps

$840 is a lot of money. It depends how many shots he will get and how many drinks you will get. You can get two bottles of Tequila for $300. He can pour and sip as much as he wants.

BUT what about me? Hahaha! I know what you mean, it was a struggle deciding, but decided to "splurge".

I know! Our last cruise I really didn't drink very much on some days. It will be fun trying different drinks though and not worrying about the money.

Everyone spends money differently! We'd rather pay for a suite than pay $800 for beverages on a 7 day cruise! Our bill at the end of most1week cruises (without grats) only comes to about $300 if that much!!

That makes perfect sense too!!

We've had Cheers our previous two carnival cruises and I love the all inclusive feel. We're on the fence about cheers on our upcoming magic cruise because there are 4 ports in 7 days, and our 3.5 year old son is coming. I don't know how much drinking we'll be able to do. Plus I'd kill me to buy my son a milk shake in addition to the $800 I already paid for cheers. On the other hand, if I spent more than what cheers would cost then I'd regret not getting it.

In addition to the AI feel, did you feel you drank more than enough to cover the cost? How did you do on port days on those cruises? Do you drink a lot of non-alcoholic, but pay for drinks (specialty coffee, soft drink, powerade, etc)?

It sounds like you will drink less on this cruise, but the question is how much less. I personally wouldn't do it, but that's based on knowing my drinking habits - not yours;).

A few suggestions to possibly help you decide:

  • $500 Cruise Cash or Cruise Bar Cash (limit is $500 per type/per cabin, but can do any amount from $25-$500). No "discount" on drinks, but your AI experience would be $500 vs $800 and you could get drinks for your son with this. Bar Cash can only be used at the bars and general Cruise Cash can be used for anything on the sign and sail. These funds are non-refundable (but can use Cruise Cash in the casino slot machine).
  • Carnival gift card(s) - refundable to another Carnival gift card to use on a future cruise (or use the casino). Still have the A/I feel at a lower cost than Cheers
  • Apply cash to your account in the amount you are willing to pay for drinks. Fully refundable if more than $10 left over, less is donated to St. Jude.
  • If you feel Cheers is still the better deal, you can make your own "milkshake" for your son with soft serve and lemonade or soft serve and chocolate milk (maybe pack a small container of Nesquick or hot cocoa packs to mix with the ice cream for a "frosty". If you pack some cans of root beer you could make floats too. Lots of respect to you though for recognizing that your son isn't covered by the adult's Cheers and you should pay for his milkshake if that's what you choose to get:cool:

Enjoy your cruise whatever you decide:D

Love the gift card idea. Thats what Im going to do. I used the calculator and would end up spending the same with or without the package. However, with the package I would feel obligated to have to drink that much. Without Im not going to spend much more than the package anyway.

So I bought 2 gift cards @ $100 and will just pay my bill at the end with those cards.

Plus with the 10% discount for the cards thru AARP or All State, or the 4x fuel points promotion Kroger just ran it adds a few more pennies to the pot.

Thank you for your alternative suggestions to buying the package. Helped me confirm my decision of just going with the flow will work.

And my husband will love the root beer floats, bringing his own root beer.
