Boarding Day Lunch

Does anyone know if one of the Dining Rooms is opened for lunch on boarding day.  I know we've had lunch in the Dining Room on boarding day on other Princess cruises.

MDR embarkation dining is usually available but occasionally, not offered if there is some special event taking place (i.e. fund raiser, travel agents, etc.)

We've gone to the dining room for embarkation lunch on every one of our Princess cruises (20+).

Just check on your own.  If you ask an employee on the ship, they'll tell you to go to the buffet.  It's usually a dining room near the atrium and not the one at the aft of the ship on Deck 6.

We go if we make it aboard in time. If we are driving to the port (SF) we aren't early enough. Hopefully we will be in time for our next two cruises. Love the nice lunch in MDR.

There will frequently be a server posted to dissuade you from eating in the MDR.  Why Princess does this I'll never understand.  Check the patter and prepared to be funneled towards the buffet, but yes, there nearly always is one MDR open from noon - 1:30.

The short answer is yes. However, finding said dining room can be a bit of a challenge... I have gotten pretty good at being adamant. So far, I have a 100% success rate! Bon appetit!

So far the MDR midship on deck 6 has been open.  We did find the MDR closed one time in SF where there seemed to be a party going on (TAs?) and were not allowed to enter.  If you are one of the ships with an Alfredo's separate restaurant, this is a viable choice and we take it.

In September on the Royal, it was in the aft dining room. On the Regal last February, the dining room opened at 11:30. We were dilly-dallying in our cabin before I noticed the time in the Patter.

We had lunch in the midship dining room on the Sea Princess last month as we boarded.

Traditionally it’s a midship MDR that does embarkation lunch. A good trick is to ask for Club class lunch and it will be the entrance on the other side of Club class 😊 meaning if Club class entrance is on the Port side, the Starboard side will be the entrance to regular lunch, or vice versa.

 

For whatever annoying reason the crew will always direct you to the buffet, even if you ask for the MDR lunch. 

 

Its usually noon to 1:30

We look forward to it every embarkation day! On days we have friends or family joining us for BVE it’s less work finding the correct MDR for lunch. 😊

Last month, the MDR open for lunch on embarkation day on the Regal was the aft Allegro dining room on Deck 6, I believe.  But, you cannot get to it directly from Deck 6, because the galley is in the way.  You have to go up to Deck 7, walk towards the back ( aft), then go back down to Deck 6.  That's kind of tricky for pax new to the Regal.

 

So much more calm and relaxing than the frantic atmosphere of the buffet. ( Even though Regal's buffet is very good).  JMO --- EBC
