You would think there would be extra perks for going from Platinum to Diamond, not that it will ever apply to me, I will probably never get past red lol.

There are....

Should be a step between gold and platinum.

Should also include all Carnival lines in it as one loyalty group like RCL and all hotels do.

Much easier said than done...apples and oranges

Funny RCL and all the other hotel chains manage to easily roll them all into one loyalty thing.

I will give you a couple of examples.... Royal has three cruise lines (really 2 but Azamara does count with three ships) so the differences  are minimal (how they count the attainment to loyalty levels etc whereas Carnival has many more and the way they each individually count the levels differs dramtaically (Carnival, Costa, Princess, Hal, Seaborn, P&O Cunard, Aida, Carnival Australia....you get the picture).  So the first is different ways they attain levels and the second is ways the levels get you things....for sake of this discussion perks.  Same principle Princess does it dramatically different than P&O or Carnival.

In contrast Royal basically took how the did it on Royal and merged if with Celebrity which was very similar.  Could Carnival jam a square peg in a round hole with theirs?  Sure but it would anger probably everybody.  No upside.  Actually not funny at all, but I do not think you really meant that did you.....

Who would be angry over getting the same perks across the brands?

Marriott, Hilton and Starwood manage to give the same perks to high members across the board.

Star Alliance manages across many different airlines.

I am sure they can figure an easy way to make it work across brands like others manage to do.

It would be change, some people dont like change but in the end it will be better for everybody.

Rumor has it Carnival is going to announce changes to their loyalty program around the same time Panorama starts sailing. Of course I take everything I hear concerning the ViFP program with a big grain of salt.

It has been 10 years......  her eis a scenario that would tick off cruisers.  They switch the the way princess has it and most Carnival cruisers would drop 2 levels from where they are now.

Carnival execs were on record talking about it a couple years ago. More partnerships with other companies, loyalty programs that could transfer in one way or another to Carnival, etc. Revamping VIFP to attract first and second timers to come back. Ways to keep people interested between cruises. Since it takes time to make deals like that and work out the details, it sounds like they were serious. That is, if the rumors you heard are true.

It looks like if they changed to the way Princess does it that more people would benefit unless they were red on Carnival.

Only have to have 51 days to be Platinum and only 150 days to be Elite.

Princess' platinum perks are a lot better on Princess, well for me anyway. Like the 150 free internet minutes. Used to get a free upgraded insurance with Princess. Don't know if that's still the case.

LOL, I picked them as an example of another program.  Let’s assume for the point of my discussion that it was reversed (from your opinion) and the benefits were going to be like Carnival’s. Would you be happy then?  What if from your view, none of the benefits compared to what you had previuosly had with Princess, that was my point.  Lot is unknown here and gross assumptions made, but what I know is they brought in a loyalty expert to combine programs and 10 years later he left without successfully doing that (he did other things but not combine the programs).

I'm Diamond and never got comped in steakhouse.

Well it seems to be a Diamond perk... if you have a PVP or a TA I'd reach out to them and find out how you go about getting it on your next cruise! If you don't, maybe call Carnival?

It is indeed listed as a one-time perk:

One-time complimentary meal for two at Specialty Restaurant of choice

So maybe to get the free meal you just need to request it in advance?  They probably won't just automatically assume the next time you use a "Specialty Restaurant" that you want it free.

Though I must admit being a one-time perk does re-inforce the idea that Carnival views VIFP rewards as not the reason cruisers keep returning.  To be truly a reward-as-bait, it would need to be a perk that you get every cruise after turning Diamond, etc.
