Just a Dorian update.  It’s been updated to a category 2 and that’s how it’s going to hit when it makes landfall in Nova Scotia and moves along.

Atlantic waters are too warm so it’s not slowing down.

We still have power for now, but the rain is torrential and the winds are already high here.

This will be worse than Juan which did a lot of devastation.  Halifax learned a lot from Juan so they are as prepared as can be.

Our hopes and prayers go out to all of the people and ships in this area . NOAA seems to show a landfall near Halifax soon . Please be safe .

Stay safe Jacqui and let us know how you are.

I will as long as my power holds and we have internet.  I don’t expect it to, though.  Actually why I did your Bon Voyage thread a day early.

Huge power outages already.  We’ve been lucky so far and I get NB Power to trim the branches around the transformer 😉

It’s pretty wild here in Saint John but at least we have power at this point.  I don’t mind it too much when it is daylight but in the dark everything will seem worse.

So glad you still have power so far.

The worst comes tonight 😞  But we are lucky to have power.  Our mutual friends across the street lost their power hours ago.  Hoping it is restored before it gets too dangerous for NB Power to attend to it, but at least they have a generator.

Jacqui and Sapper my thoughts are with both of you and your families ( including all the fur babies) .

I hope the storm passes quickly and without losing power

I saw our mutual friend's post on fb regarding his power outage.

Your friend now has his power back on. It came back about 45 min ago. It was out for 5 hours. Thank goodness I have a generator and am able to keep the internet and TV going. Got to watch the US Open and see our Canadian win. 😊

Jacqui just listened to CNN and there saying Dorian has 100 mph winds heading towards Canada. My prayers are with all of you and I hope and pray you weather this storm and you are all safe!!! All your CC family here love all of you and I for one will be listening on CNN for the news!

She is a true Canadian, even apoligized to Serena for winning. She's a class act. 😊

A generator is a requirement around here. The power feed in our subdivision is so un-reliable. It does't take much to knock it out. 😧

Thanks Denise,

Dorian has been here for a while.  The eye has arrived and shortly the bedlam resumes for those in the eye.  For the rest of us, we just have to hunker down and bear it out.

Captain came on the PA system around 5 pm and asked us to secure things in our cabins so loose stuff doesn't fall around.  No one is to wear high heels.  The barf bags are out in the elevator lobbies.  (We even got two barf bags in our cabin tonight, with the bedtime chocolates!  Never had that happen before.). Seas seem to be fine (for now).  There is movement but it's not anything unusual. We are currently north of the Gaspe peninsula and almost west of Anticosti Island.  Captain still thinks we can go to Corner Brook on Monday but I'm sure that will be reevaluated if need be.

Hope everyone in Atlantic Canada stays safe and has minimal disruption.

I have to correct my previous post!  The two barf bags were NOT left by the cabin stewards!  My DM brought them for me, just in case I needed them. She was asleep when I came "home" last night so we didn't talk about it til this morning.

Happy to say that we held our power unlike over 1/2 million other homes in NB, N.S. and PEI.

@Alberta Quilter I think you should be able to go to Corner Brook NFld.  The storm is at Newfoundland right now but on the Northern shore and should be gone by tonight if forecasts hold true.

@mamaofami Halifax has sustained a lot of damage but from what I have heard so far, the harbour has not been damaged.  Halifax is prepared for clean up and the Government is sending in the army to help with the clean up so hopefully you will be able to enjoy some time there.  It will take some time though.  Other power specialists are joining in to help restore power as soon as possible.

Glad to hear you're okay - we've been watching the news; it's very scary!

Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂

So glad to hear you are OK Jacqui and thanks for the report on Halifax. Any news on PEI ? I read that many are without power there too and that they were worried about the storm surge still.

They were still feeling effects this morning as Dorian was in the Gulf and approaching the Magdalene Islands.  The storm didn’t affect all of PEI but where it hit was quite bad.

I’ll post for you when I get a complete update.  They are still evaluating and all you really see is the torn up trees and damage.
