I am sorting out a table for about 40 John, you and Pete are both welcome but I will sit you at opposite ends.... 😊

Joking aside, this just shows how we can perceive things differently.

We all enjoy our cruises in our own way and that's how it should always be.

Andy

Don’t even bother organising a table for me to share, because I’ll never share a table for more than 4 people. Belittle me as much as you like, but it will never happen and I take great offence to be honest to the constant put downs I get on this P&O board because I have the temerity to have sailed on other lines other than P&O whereas most on here have never sailed on any other line and yet seem to think they are the worlds expert on cruising. Once again I am questioning my decision to sail on this line.

I might also add, that, by not sharing a table you will miss the opportunity of hearing my four jokes, one of which  involves impersonating an elephant !

If that's the one I'm thinking of, it should have the table in stitches - or walking out, depending on how broad-minded the company is!  (Or maybe I'm the one with the dirty mind).

Oh Pete I am so sorry.

I really never meant to belittle you and have said on many occasions that if a table for two suits you, then that is what you should do.

I only joked about the large table to lighten the tension that was building, not to offend anybody.

Sincere apologies,

Andy

It's not a real table Pete,it's virtual.Everyone can pretend to love each over on this idealic table.Plus I'm in the chair for tips and booze apparently.Nobody is putting you down, just a disagreement with 1 bloke.Andy is just trying to lighten the atmosphere a bit. Now,if your name was Harry, you'd have something to moan about, lol. He just takes it in his stride.

Actually I read these threads, not listen and you can report your experiences as much as you like and I’ll still disagree with you because you obviously don’t read what I have stated which is on over 21 sailings with RCI I haven’t witnessed what you have reported.

But you're not suggesting I am lying are you?  Neither am I accusing you of lying, I am merely expressing an opposite opinion, to balance things out for others.

The joke normally gets a good response, until I get to the bit about picking up bread rolls with my "trunk", complete with demonstration. For some reason I then find myself at a table for one!

Freedom is best for me as I go through a bit of social anxiety.  Nothing to do with other people but always tend to think people will find me boring.  Saying that I did done on a table for two some years ago on Ventura and it was almost more awkward.  Out table for two was so close to the other table for two that I think it would have been better on the same table and both know it is ok to talk to each other.

You have every right to do what you want as do everyone else without motives being questioned.

We personally prefer and ask for tables for 2 every time we dine and as Diamond+ loyalty on Royal Carribbean are qualified to comment on them as well and tables for 2 are more prevalent on RC because lots of people ask for them.

The one eared elephant is a similar joke, I have just developed it into more of an x-rated affair!

If you're concerned that others might find you boring, it's highly likely that you won't be.  The real bores have no concept or understanding of the way they're perceived by others, and are never likely to.

With you entirely on the closeness of the tables on Ventura and Azura - separate tables in name only, and you'd never, ever find them that close together in a restaurant.  I'd find it deeply disconcerting to be sitting so close to people but completely ignoring them - if that's supposed to be the etiquette.

Go for it - should liven things up enormously!  Until you get ejected at the next port, maybe?  😂

Graham - isn'tit the point that, because you want a table for two, you will never have the joy of sharing a table with Andy and Michelle.  You are missing so much!

I might also add, that, by not sharing a table you will miss the opportunity of hearing my four jokes, one of which  involves impersonating an elephant ! Such laughs!

With your four jokes Wowzz and my four, we have the entertainment covered...

We can just repeat them every night, the rest of the table will love it... 😊

You'll be just like the comedians, some of them repeat the same joke for years!

I was always taught that it is more polite to listen than to talk. Unfortunately too many people seem to have been taught the reverse!

That would make for very little conversation

But I can see major problems with "booking" for Freedom Dining.  Firstly, it goes against the whole concept of Freedom Dining.  I can see people booking for a certain time and not turning up, so the table is ready, those who haven't booked have to wait because bookers are late or don't turn up at all.  It works fine the way it is.

And how do they fix the time you are allowed at your table before rebooking it for the next occupants?  It may be standing empty for half an hour because the first group had say, three courses, no cheese or coffee - or the second booking is waiting because the previous group have every course and are slow eaters.  I can see quite a problem for the efficient turn-around of tables in some instances.

Have to admit looking at our booking in 2021 on Ventura, and wondering if we did the right thing requesting a table for two. I hate being in restaurants where they squeeze tables so close together😟

Change it. Just a personal view, but they’re horrendously close together, and it’s downright embarrassing to be sitting so close to people, some of whom don’t want to converse.

We felt sitting at those tables really weird.  All squeezed up together but without the good company you almost always get sharing with others.

Because your partner will be sitting with people on either side, literally in touching distance, it is virtually impossible to converse with your partner without indirectly also talking to the adjoining diners as well. On the odd occasions we have had a two top we found it very difficult to converse, knowing that everything we said could be overheard by the adjoining couples.

We normally always share a table, as we enjoy socialising with other diners, and, ironically,  find it easier to have a private discussion when seated side by side on an 8 top than on a 2 top.

Fully agree with you Harry.

I was recently on Arcadia and took a photograph as a future example...

Of course the alternative tables for 2 were, in my opinion, even worse...

...positioned along a wall - or what I referred to as the 'railway carriage' where just about every other passenger on that dining level walked past you during the course of your meal.

We're currently on Arcadia and agree with what you say. And the two tables in your top picture have a larger gap than most of the other side by side tables. For the first time ever on a cruise we've been eating more in the buffet in the evening and find it a much more pleasant experience.
