So it will be just me and my husband on a 7 night cruise next month and we Purchased the unlimited dining plan.  When I purchased it on the cruise planner, it says tips are included.  Do you tip on top of that?  If so how much is good for 2 people?  Just trying to figure out how much cash to bring.

Thanks,

Loralie

When we buy a deeply discounted dining package we always tip in cash.  Usually $10 to $20 per couple depending on service.  When we have purchased on board at full price with gratuity added, we do not leave an additional tip.

We also tip $10 - $20 in cash, depending on the service, for the two of us when we pre-purchase any of the Dining Packages.

On my cruise planner Order information, it says the gratuity is included.

Yes it says it included but they get 18% added to the full price ($45+ depending on restaurant). The UDP is usually $25 or less per meal with no additional tip added. So they obviously are getting much less than the 18% number even if you leave $10 per couple.

it is still up to you because it says tip included but we tip knowing that it is still costing us a lot less than what we would be paying for full price.

$45x2=$90 plus 18% auto tip added equals $98.10.  With the package $25x2 or $50 plus tip if you wish is $60.

Obviously  the price of specialty restaurants very by ship.

Thanks for clarifying it.  We will definitely tip extra.

If purchased on board a gratuity is added.

That's why it's better to buy the dining package in the cruise planner when it goes on sale.

Q

Are there any gratuities included in the dining package?

A

Gratuities are included in all dining packages that are purchased via Cruise Planner. Dining packages purchased onboard will have an 18% gratuity added to the purchase price.

Why is this so hard for some people to understand?

A gratuity is included when you purchase the package.  How much?  Who knows.  But you are also still paying your regular daily gratuity for services on the ship.  It takes something really wow/spectacular to warrant triple tipping so I bring some extra cash but if service is poor to OK no triple tip.
