I've said before the CDC ( whether right or wrong) has the upper hand at "this" time. It most certainly can change for the better and let cruising start earlier.

 

A little off topic but pertains to crowds and Social Distancing. I have been waiting to hear if a National Dance Competition in Orlando (June27-July 4) was still ON. Just got word a few minutes ago it is Cancelled. Evidently as big of a tourist area that Orlando is they aren't ready to move forward with Large Events.

At some point society will also have to address the elephant in the room.  People who want to stay at home can only do so because we have deemed many others 'essential' down to the teenage stock boy at the grocery store.  The 'essentials' have had little change in their daily lives since this started.  They get up and go to work every day making sure the services and supplies are available for those who believe they need to hole up with no contact with the outside world.....they demand all this as they sit on Facebook and complain about all the people who are 'out there'.

 

For example.....we visited a local restaurant here that opened back up.  They did it by the book.....probably 1/4 capacity....number of people in the building tightly controlled....tables spread probably 12ft apart and all parties were in small groups.  It just happened to make our community Facebook page with the usuals popping up with the "OMG they are going to die" from their basement bunker.  I could only laugh at their little outrage.....I have went to work every day since this started like normal because that is what my job requires.  I am out in 'the world' daily doing a job that enables you to sit at home and complain.  If those safety measures are good enough for me to be forced to work so you can sit safely at home then it is good enough for me to grab a bite to eat.

It would be quite impossible to "social distance" 6 feet in all the various venues on a cruise ship...   The showroom, casino, MDR, pool/lido....seriously how?  Even if you only occupy 25 or 50% of the cabins.  It's literally impossible.

 

I agree with a previous poster - those people who are very concerned and insist on 6 feet, face masks, gloves to live your life, maybe cruising is not the place for you at this time.  Maybe not anywhere in large numbers of people - city streets, sports venues (at some point), concerts, movies, malls.   I, for one, will not live my life in fear of doing the things I enjoy. 

 

It will be very much like the flu - seasonal, ever changing, and we will have to decide at some point if we want to live in a bubble, or go back to living the best normal life we can.

Slightly off topic but it relates, during Desantis press conference he talked about the Orlando area (where cruisers would fly into for cruising out of PC).  The area is doing pretty well, but the end of June is pushing it.  I expect Disney to open early fall with social distancing at the forefront and go from there.

Disney is one of those scenarios where I think social distancing will be next to impossible.  Any theme parks for that matter, as groups of people freely wander those venues.  Some areas may be able to distance, for instance the lines to ride, but the parks in general …. I can't see it happening.

they can limit capacity for the entire park and then by sections of the park. Allow 10,000 in and then assign a section and rotate that number from section to section.

They actually already have a plan.  If I see it again I will post a link, it included rooms on property, park policies and many ancillary processes, fairly complex.  That said, it is nowhere near the Disney we knew.

BTW...we had been isolating for weeks, except for me going to the drugstore and supermarket (quickly) once a week...wearing a mask etc...so I have NO idea how we got it...other than "it" was on a package or bag I brought in.

In this situation, there are additional factors coming into that decision.  There is definitely a challenge with the changes necessary to host a competition.  Varsity, Disney, and others have had to jump through unique hoops in the past, but this is brand new.  They are all experts and will figure out a way for future events to take place.  

Another big issue (as you are probably aware) would be the preparedness of groups to compete that soon at the level they hoped.  Their rehearsals/practices have been curtailed.  Their fund raising events not taking place.  

One world championship scheduled for August was cancelled in March, because it was known the competing groups (made up more nationally than locally) wouldn't have time to develop their performances as needed, as well as multiple transportation challenges.  It really sucks for some great kids who really want to perform.

Absolutely the kids will suffer and their performance would be questionable.

 

Like many have been saying a huge obstacle is going to be the “social distancing”.

 

Just caught the end of a news story that a beach (California I think) that had been opened back up was closing again due to people not taking the social distancing serious.

Completely agree. I'm in the medical field so my "normal" hasn't changed very much, but honestly I can't tell much of a difference anywhere.  Stores have been packed the whole time.  The other night I was driving to the hospital at 2:40 AM and there was a line wrapped all around the building for the Drive-thru at Cook Out.....

The reason I don't feel this is true, is because I booked this cruise before the May cruises were cancelled and I was told at that time that the ship was almost full.  We were looking for connecting rooms (5 and 2) and we couldn't find that and ended up settling on something else, and he specifically said "This ship is really almost full."  Since then, I've talked to a couple other people at Carnival (when calling about price drops etc..) and it was mentioned that it was almost at capacity.   Of course that was WAY before there was any talk about reduction in capacity.

Yup.  There is no way to shut this society down.  You can decide to become a hermit if you want while you proudly tout on Facebook how you are so responsible that you got your groceries delivered like it deserves some sort of medal.  Reality is the countless people keeping the supply chain flowing, the internet and phones on, the electricity on, keeping the shelves stocked, delivering fuel so the trucks keep rolling, those keeping our health care system afloat, all the first responders maintaining law and order are still going about their day like they did in December are the ones making that possible.  Those people don't share the same inconsolable fear some do...their daily life has changed very little and many are ready to move forward even as the doomsayers who are able to sit at home due to their sacrifice critique it.

I'm in the minority here, but I think there is a very real possibility that cruising will begin on June 27th.  Granted, I don't know what types of changes will be involved, or if people will want to be on that first ship, but I do think there is a good chance it will sail.

yes but think how many canceled,, i use to work for the hilton , we would say we are fully booked at 90 percent capacity.

many dont want to cruise ever or till 2021, so they are projecting that on everyone, they dont realize the demand. and the business side of the cruiselines wanting to get things on track.  it will happen slowly, but it will happen this summer.
