Rare bobmacliberty Posted July 6, 2020 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2020 (edited) Riley Tench is going home. If you don't know who Riley Tench is, he's a crewmember on Quantum who has been living on the ship for the last 5 months due to Covid-19. He's a Youtuber and has several good videos posted, including a cross-video that he did with Chris Wong, another Royal crewmember Youtuber. Riley's video reinforces that it will likely be several months before Royal cruises again. They are sending remaining, non-essential crew members home. Here's Riley's video Edited July 6, 2020 by bobmacliberty 2
Merion_Mom Posted July 6, 2020 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2020 On FB, people who are in touch with various crew members have reported that their friends are being told to prepare to return in two months.

There is an email that was sent to crew that stated it will be 2-3 months before contract renewals even begin. Sadly, there is risk that the necessary Visas held by many of these crew members will begin to expire. With US embassies either shut or functioning at limited capacity around the world, this will complicate things even further. Bottom line is 2020 will either operate extremely minimally or not at all. RCL & NCLH intend to give their proposals to the CDC around 8/15. CDC has already told the cruise lines that it could take 4-6 months to even review and approve these protocols. Expect more detail on 7/24 when there is further extension of the no sail order.
Dennis#1 Posted July 7, 2020 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2020 I have also heard that cruise ships departing Florida will most likely not start up until early 2021, based on what a friend at CDC told me.

Do you think one way Radiance Alaska sailings be running in June 2021?

Of course, that's assuming the the cruise lines are not stringing their employees along like they are their customers. Not to be doom-n-gloom, just playing devils advocate. I can tell you I too am booked for Alaska in June 2021, so am hopeful it will sail.

Rare bobmacliberty Posted August 6, 2020 Author #13 Share Posted August 6, 2020 I've seen the working areas (ECR, galley, laundry, food storage, etc.) of a couple of ships on behind the scenes tours, but not the crew mess/relaxation areas. Pretty impressive.

Pratique Posted August 6, 2020 #16 Share Posted August 6, 2020 I think the crew are being told not to expect to come back anytime soon. Not "maybe 2 or 3 months." In other words, don't wait up for us. The first new contracts will probably be to rotate out the seamen in the minimal manning crews and then to onboard limited additional crew to ready the ships for return to service.
