Deposit increase?

I just was looking into booking an Alaska cruise next July and was surprised that an $800 deposit was required instead of the $200 for the two of us.

Now we have FCD's that we would use but that only gives us $100 each towards the deposit.

When did the deposit increase?

I noticed an increase in deposits when the new caribbean cruises were released However your FCD should cover the entire deposit required in my experience

Just the cruise in an oceanview. I know things are tough for the cruiselines, I was just surprised by the uptick in deposit costs.

Is it the 14 day cruise that you are booking?  Be glad you don't have to pay in Canadian - the deposit is $1080.

As others have said, you don’t need to pay extra, just your future cruise deposit will cover it. I did notice that deposits have gone up. I almost choked when I was quoted $800 PP for a Hawaii cruise. Used my last set of FCDs for the family for that.

all the more reason for Princess to 'refund' FCD's as FCC ... even if doubled ...

P increased the deposits with the latest promotion. P tries this every once in awhile. Last year P tried imposing nonrefundable deposits. That didn't last long. P will probably revert to normal deposits with the next promotion according to my PVP.

If you apply two FCDs toward your cruise that is all you need.

I'm sure they are trying to get some cash in the coffers.

Yeah, about 2 years ago I booked a cruise thinking if I couldn't talk DH into that one, I would just cancel and book something else.  Well it turned out to be "non-refundable"....darn!  But I had a 25 day cruise booked for about a year out and I was able to talk the ta into transferring the deposit to the later cruise.  Whew!
It was only a couple hundred dollars, but still.

I think Princess Cruises needs the money so they can return some of the deposits they haven’t returned.
Some of the people have been waiting over 4 months for their money. 😳 My advice is try not to be one of them.

Carnival has secured funds that could keep the corporation afloat through 2021 if there was no income.

I doubt the slowness in refunds has anything to do with wanting to retain customers' money.

You could be right, but it makes me wonder when they are asking people to pay final payment early with an offer (I almost said "bribe) of 10% and $200 obc.  Why would they do that if they weren't trying to secure more cash and especially when we all suspect there will be more cancellations where refunds will be due at a later date. No way, no how would I want to wait another 3 months for a refund.
BTW, I believe the only people that offer was made to were those using cash deposits which may indicate they are paying cash for their cruise (not to those using FCCs and FCDs).

The offers were "casino offers" which always have been in a special category and not administered directly by Princess.

I suspect the requirement for early full payment (including payment for EZAir flights) is made to discourage frivolous bookings.

Hey Tony you are so right. We have been waiting since March 19th, oh, that is almost 5 months, oh no, today it is 5 months. Thank goodness it is only $5000. Who needs that much...?????

Well thank you all for the info. We had an FCD for our August Alaska cruise that got cancelled. I was not going to book again until they returned that FCD and they did at the end of July.

Looks like we will try again to cruise to Alaska next summer! I just wanted to use the FCD's only for deposit and not give any more cash.

Hi Shaver John,

Princess Cruises should be Ashamed of themselves for keeping their passengers money like yours for OVER 5 Months.
