New Covid-19 Cruise Ship Rules

I think it's ironic to see all of these usernames I saw clamoring for summer or holiday startups by any means necessary without vaccines have changed their tune significantly now that vaccines are available (but largely only for them).

Actually, before vaccines arrived on the scene I had posted many times that if masks and distancing were needed to help keep the ship environment safe then it was a clear sign that it is still too risky to be doing something so unnecessary as taking a cruise.

I didn't sell Azamara because I didn't own it in the first place. But now I know  that your imagination is running off the charts today.

You guys. Royal. You know what I mean. Why now? Did they need the money at this moment because of Covid? If so how much time did it buy? If Royal is selling of sub-divisions of their empire then they are big trouble.

Neither Fain nor Bayley would let me sit in on the meeting when they made the decision.

The Azamara sale had been in the works for quite some time

I have not monitored Azamara at all or heard any talk of sale but I don't really read cruise industry news. If it has got to that stage then Royal has to be in more trouble than Carnival or NCL are. So far as I am aware they are not looking to sell off any part of their business.

Most likely from the moment they put pen to paper on the Silversea deal.  Actually, it was probably part of the entire thought process around the Silversea purchase.  That the sale took place in the middle of this pandemic was pure coincidence and probably cost them money on the sale.

Are you going to agree with this . If one does it they all will soon or later

Carnival will restrict access to public spaces, and venues/activities will operate at reduced capacity. The line says it may use a reservation system for public areas including pools, gyms, casinos, restaurants, bars and entertainment productions. SO no matter what you want to do you have to have a reservation

yep sounds a delightful holiday... not.  Holidays should be relaxed and I know us as a family like to do what we want when we feel like it and like to chose when we do things and we sometimes think we will do this at that time but then change our minds as enjoying what we are doing at the time. however if you have to make reservations you would not be able to leave it and do it later so there would be no spontaneity. so for us it wouldn't work

A successful and forward looking businesss owner should always be prepared to sell off an underperforming or non core asset to steamline its operation, strengthen the balance sheet and improve the company's future earning potential. It does not necessary mean 'big trouble'.

So it appears that you want as normal a cruise experience as possible as do I and many other. Yet on another thread you are irritated by the people who advocate for, and feel that, a vaccine requirement may provide the best chance of a route back to as normal of a cruise experience as possible.🤔

It is all about choices. Would you rather sail on a ship that everyone has been vaccinated or one that are only partially vaccinated or nobody vaccinated? Will the ports be happy to welcome cruises with vaccinated crew and passengers or ones that arent. Once herd immunity is achieved, then the requirements will change but until then, if you want to cruise you get the vaccination. We are already seeing the effects of the vaccine on reported cases having gone down significantly and they have just started.

Textbook case of someone who will complain no matter what. It's quite common nowadays on these boards:

"I don't want to cruise with all of these restrictions in place."

THEN GET VACCINATED AND YOU CAN.

"I refuse to get vaccinated." 🤷‍♂️

Kids dont need a vaccine because they dont spread it anywhere near as much as adults and they arent affected by the virus in terms of illness. If all the adults have the vaccine there is no need to vaccinate kids. Highly contagious adults are the problem because their viral shedding is so high they can infect 20 people easily. The vaccine is around 70% effective at stopping infection and 95% effective at preventing serious illness and 100% effective against death.

There really isnt much to debate here. Get the jab remove restrictions and away we go. The issue might be staff on board but there will be millions of spare vaccines in the UK soon enough so that might help.

I don't think we will ever reach a herd immunity that thoroughly stamps out the virus, but will reach one with minimal hospitalizations and deaths. I also don't think cruises will sail until hospitalizations and deaths both home and in the destination ports are under control... My last contention is that neither of those things will happen until a critical mass of the population recovers after being infected with the virus or gets vaccinated, thus there is no need for a vaccination requirement as a de-facto population level immunity from the worst effects will be proven before ships ever sail, and while the virus is still very much with us.

Get a jab and if the kids can't get one they don't go until they do. Really not much debate here

It shouldn't matter in the least what OTHER people want to do.  Doesn't matter to me in the least what any of you want or do concerning cruising.  Only matters to me what is possible.  I cruise for the joy of it, I can cruise with or without a piece of cloth over my mouth.  I can cruise staying 10 ft away from people.  I can cruise and sit on my balcony and be just as happy as strolling the promenade.  The joy for me is the sea.  So I will do whatever is necessary.  We have already been vaccinated.  All the stuff other people object to doesn't really matter to me...I've always been a half full make lemonade girl and that won't change even with Covid.  I already lost my oldest brother to Covid related Pulmonary embolism so I have a vested interest in this pandemic.  But I'm not letting it rule my world.  I'm doing the best I can and will continue to cruise, vacation and sightsee within the prescribed limitations. I do not like the idea of our own excursions being nixed but whatever, better that than no cruising.  To each his own, that's the American way.

My brother's step daughter is 10 yrs old and just tested positive, doing fine, but it's the infection she brings home to her parents that is risky.  The parents are getting it no doubt, they already show symptoms.  She will recover, praying that they do.

I was just about to say this. I saw the writing on the wall as soon as they got involved with Silversea. I actually feel that the pandemic delayed the inevitable.

If the kids can't be vaccinated, I have concerns that the family oriented mass-market lines won't require it.  Royal, Carnival and NCL are geared towards family. That's a large demographic of business that they would be losing if kids can't cruise.

This  is totally WRONG!  I can go with the part about kids not getting a severe case, but why do you think schools are closed?  It is because they bring it home to their grandparents!  There should  be vaccines for children available by the end of the year.  I don’t believe cruising will start before they have one available.

And you know the health condition of the kids parents?  The ones that are getting infected by their child.  The child that should not be vaccinated,  IYHO.

May I ask where you got your degree?

The kid's parents should get the vaccine.
