I know this is P&O so sorry to continue talking about Princess.... The other thing to remember about the Princess Plus Package is that it includes all soft drinks, including speciality coffees. Therefore, with a lot of time at sea, unless you don't ingest much liquid of any sort across the day, it is likely to be quite good value.

As the thread has been moved to the Princess forum, you are perfectly in the clear to talk about Princess !

The original posts were about P & O so I’m surprised it has been moved.

What happens if you need medical treatment on board ? That will cost you. What happens if you have a heart attack and are airlifted to, say Exeter?  Insurance will cover all your incidental costs, which could add up to thousands of pounds.

To be honest, I was thinking the same as upwarduk. I've looked at my annual travel insurance policy and it appears that the "worldwide" medical cover is only valid for medical claims which occur outside of the policy holders "Home Area" which is defined as England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man.

In any case, I would imagine evacuating a sick or injured passenger from a cruise ship sailing in British waters would be carried out by the coastguard and the patient would be delivered to a waiting NHS ambulance and then taken to the nearest NHS hospital. I don't think anyone would be getting a bill from the coastguard or the NHS for this.

Yes, there may be a bill for medical treatment onboard the ship, but they are fairly limited as to what treatment they can offer onboard, and anything deemed as serious or life threatening would require the passenger to be evacuated.

It will also be very busy at the tea and coffee outlets with everybody on all inclusive packages. Wonder if you can request them on room service instead of the regular hot drinks?

Might be fairly limited but can be very expensive and anyone would be rather foolish to cruise without cover for medical insurance whilst onboard any cruise ship.

This scenario is all well if everything is co-ordinated and works like clockwork. 2 weeks ago my next door neighbour had a heart attack. Ambulance arrived and they spent 30 minutes working on him. He spent 2 hours in the ambulance in Plymouth's main hospital car park.

The hospital was choked up with Covid cases and they had to recall specialist off-duty theatre staff. They popped a Stemp into him and he's recovering. He's only 53 and not overweigh which probably helped. Incidentally, does cruise insurance cover burial at sea? 🙄

Don't forget that the ship will probably only be about 60% full, so shouldn't be too busy.

Suppose the 'bean counters' reduce the crew by 60% also. Could lead to longer queues, albeit - 6 feet apart 🙄

Yes I agree but Princess Plus includes drinks package, gratuities and unlimited wi-fi. P&O have removed payment of gratuities onto onboard account but no doubt increased prices to cover cost and their drinks package alone in £39-95pppd and you have to pay extra for wi-fi. It is obviously a personal choice but I personally think Princess are one step above P&O for food and service.

I initially thought that prices would increase. I’ve cruised before and after and nothing has been increased and onboard credit was also still around the same level.  Might be different now, but it’s two years since they removed them and different times.

Confused by what you are saying.

They encourage using the medallion for ordering and delivery anywhere on ship, so it could take a while

We've booked Sky P in June '22 and Island P in Aug '22 both out of Southampton. Hopefully normality will have resumed by then 🙄

Sky Princess has 724 balcony cabins.  With no children onboard that could mean about 1500 guests if all were booked. Max occupancy 3660 so 45% would be a good guess.    Statistics specify 1350 crew, that’s nearly one to one service.  Although at reduced occupancy probably won’t be fully staffed.

Not sure if Princess will do the same, but it appears that similar cruises with P&O will only be at 45% capacity.

My travel agent said the cruise I want to go on is at 40% capacity.

Just a reminder that these cruises go on sale at 8am tomorrow (P&O opened their bookings at 8:30). So set the alarm if you are keen to book.

Fortunately I'm not bothered, so will still be asleep!

Interesting new rule mentioned by a travel agent  - Princess UK won't allow you to board a UK Seacation cruise if you were on ANY cruise line for the previous 7 days in that you cannot hop from one cruise to another.
