I have often thought this myself, maybe have a 'casual' dining room. We just got off the Enchanted and my husband 'forgot' to pack any long pants other than dark jeans.  Seems he was remembering our last cruise in 2020 on  NCL where nice shorts/shirt are acceptable dining room attire!  So we did skip 'formal' nights.

If my DH forgot his dress pants & only had his dark jeans he still would have gone to the main DR and if they turned him away, so be it.

People who have lost their luggage have still be allowed to eat dinner dressed in what every they have with them. Not that we've ever lost our luggage as we carry it onboard with us.

Would not happen at our house as my wife is in charge of packing.  I do get to review the selection, however.  She is an expert and can get more in a suitcase than most other people I figure.  😉

Perhaps, but they still like to advertise that it's a formal cruise line so to entice the unknowing into thinking it's "exclusive". I think there are more & more people lately who are surprised to find the lack of formality there once was on Princess.

Maybe they do get more bookings misrepresenting their attire requirements.

And no it doesn't bother me either what the others are wearing.

Choosing formal or casual clothing doesn't affect my enjoyment of the food.

OTOH, if they hang onto the pretense, it may drive some folks away.  There may be a hint of what is to come as one ship (Sky, I think - or is it Enchanted) is naming the nights "Dress to Impress" - hardly original, but you get the idea.  They may be looking at re-framing the evening and it gives "permission" to dress to the 9's or dial it back as people see fit.  Meanwhile, it would be nice if they held to a modicum of standard such as would be expected at a nice land-based restaurant.  Meanwhile, folks already have had the flexibility on Princess for "Formal Night" and our feeling is this has been good.  Most - very much most - people are good about it and dress nicely.  We find the atmosphere on Princess pleasant and accommodating and not at all stuffy.

They have enough challenges now carving up the dining for same time/same table/same waiters versus open seating, private tables, shared tables, split tables, etc.  DMW would just crack completely under the stress of yet another dining variable.

As you said, most people still dress very nicely even though Princess has relaxed their dress code on their ships without specifying it in their literature.

I have yet to see the real sloppy people that some have described here on CC. Luck I guess??😊

Either way I'm happy to leave things the way they are now.

Just an update on the dress situation onboard.  The current group of passengers (about 1850 of us)!seem to be better dressed then in the last cruise. Last night was a formal night and we actually saw a man turned away from the Amalfi Dining Room because he was wearing shorts.  So it seems that they are now enforcing some rules on the formal nights although we still have seen some shorts in the MDR on other nights. The man who was turned away insisted he could not wear long pants because he had a sore in his leg!  Long pants and a collared shirt was enough for entry although a majority of guys did have on a jacket.

A question about the hairdryers in the cabin: my wife wants to know if they are secured in a drawer ( like many are ) or are they unsecured in the bathroom cabinet below or also in a drawer by the mirror where one can sit & put on make up?  Thanks...loving the reports!!

Big Al

There is no place to plug in a blow dryer in the bathroom.  The hair dryer is always located at the desk/vanity area.

Are you able to order them from the Medallion app while in the theatre?

I haven’t seen any wait staff taking orders or delivering drinks. We get one at a bar on deck 7 and carry the drink into the theater

I wonder if my husband can get my drink at a bar (plus package) with my medallion & get one for himself at the same time with his medallion?

This way I can hold the seats until he arrives.

If he takes his and yours medallions, he will be able to get 2 drinks.

Hi!  I'm booked on the Enchanted Princess in May, 2022.  Can you describe how pervasive is the smoke from smokers?  Is smoking still permitted in the Casino?  Does it travel everywhere (like on Royal Caribbean ships)?  Thank you so much!

We have had no problem getting two drinks with just a single Medallion.  Both of us have drink packages (Princess Plus) and the staff can apparently see this on their system.   As to saving seats in the theater, with the reduced numbers on the Enchantment (1850 on the current cruise) we have never had a

problem getting seats :).  We go to the 6:30 shows and generally walk in at the last minute.  The 8:30 shows have a larger crowd but still no more then 75% of capacity.

Thanks for the answer.

I suspect that the number of people in March will increase over what you're experiencing right now.

People can still dress up if the want to but most choose to just go dressy casual.

Is what is said below a new definition of dressy casual?

Ratty gym shirts are now welcomed in Princess MDRs or at least on this ship.
