Thanks for the update.  Do you know if anyone was denied boarding for testing positive at embarkation yesterday?

Yes, a couple we were looking forward to seeing on the cruise were denied boarding.  She tested negative;  but he tested positive.  They were surprised and are very sad not to be on this cruise.

Feels like half that amount. Practically had a private performance by the Billboard rock band last night.

And yet, though the ship is half full, every seat in the main theatre was full for Jersey Boys performance.

Everyone kept masks on, but Covid testing is the next day!

Apparently the late diners came to the early.show and created the overcrowded situation.

The Jersey Boys are on again tonight......hope it will not again be standing room only..

I took this photo of our Meet and Greet in the Crows Nest on Feb. 4th.

MEET AND GREET.jpg

Looks like a lot of people.  We're on Zuiderdam on February 27th and have opted to wait to have our M&G until after everyone is tested on the way to Honolulu.

We were originally booked to go on this Hawaii Cruise of Feb 2nd  & glad we cancelled it because we wound up recovering from omnicron . We come to fins out even though a person is recovered these tests can pick up particles & we would have shown positive . Not sure about the PCR test

We re glad that so many people made it on this cruise to Hawaii & having fun .  This virus is keeping us  more in that out .When in your 80s it is not the time to take extra risks  because we are  most vunerable as we age  .Also ,I need to see a Retina specialist later this month

We hope that in April 2023 we can resume cruises

 Aloha to All

 Cliff

It's the other way around, I believe.  The PCR test is very, very sensitive and will show a positive from dead virus particles even weeks after recovery.  The quick antigen test is not nearly as sensitive.  What a negative antigen test says is "You do not have enough virus in your nose right now to be contagious."  That's all.  That's why you can be exposed and have an antigen test the next day and test negative and then test positive three days later.  It can be frustrating for everyone involved.

Good idea, I see at least one in the picture with a chin mask 😷.

I checked the photo and everyone has their mask on and covering mouth and nose.  If I could enlarge it here you would see every mouth and nose covered.

Also one person gave the following tip at the Meet and Greet:  If you have to touch your mask or remove it for any reason, always use the straps to remove or adjust.  Do not touch your mask near the nose or mouth as that part of the mask is full of the Covid that it is keeping from going into you.  Great advice for everyone!

Book Club starts today!

The book, Daughter of Moloka'i by Alan Brennert was handed out at guest services today.

It will be discussed at a latter date.....probably on our return to the mainland.

.

Great book although interesting that they chose the last book of the three ... you miss a lot of the history starting with that one.

He is possibly referring to Edie. He had to lower his mask so the people on the Port side could hear him.

And the poster you referenced been told the PCR test can pick up "debris" for up to 90 days (and that antigen testing only shows current infection) before, and still spreads misinformation.

https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/antigen-tests-and-omicron

Here we go.  There's a handy little image in the body of that article that illustrates the difference between the two types of tests.  Yes, the image predates Omicron (YLE says that clearly in the body of the article) but it's still useful to understand it all.

Of course, the problem is that folks get an idea stuck in their heads and that's the end of reasoning.

I know this stuff can be really difficult.  I bet I have explained, complete with diagrams, how the mRNA vaccine (that we got three times) works for my husband fifty times.  He believes me.  He trusts me.  He still doesn't really understand it.  But I bet he knows more than a whole lot of folks.  He at least does know what a spike protein is.  Sort of.  🙂

Last night we ate at Tamarind for the first time.  The service and the flavors were amazing!  We also decorated our cabin for Chinese New Year.  Magnetic hooks are so much better than command strip hooks in my opinion.

We had a little rain this morning which cancelled 9am Pickleball.  Better weather later in the day 😄

I agree 100%. The only time I used a Command strip at home, I took the paint off the wall. Yes, I did it incorrectly.  We just order 6 more magnets for our 2/27/22 cruise.

Enjoying your photos and comments!
