We are scheduled to leave on Feb 5th on a cruise and my wife gets a little motion sickness occasionally.  She is concerned with all the weather going on across the east coast that it will be rough seas.  Can anyone who is recently back from a cruise, give me an update on how rough the seas have been lately.  We cruised the Gulf about 7 years ago in January and had 20' seas.  She just doesn't want a repeat of that.

I've found the following site fairly accurate:

I don't usually have any trouble unless it's really bad. She should use the patch behind the ear at the first sign of trouble, maybe she can use the patch as a preventive measure. Not sure how fast it works.

Add: You may have more action going to the Bahamas than we had out of Miami last month. Some cross currents coming north between the Bahamas and Florida.

There's always a chance of rough seas, especially this time of year.  I use windy.com, it shows a forecast for both wind and wave height, and in fact they're showing rough seas all up and down the east coast this coming weekend.

Hubby very prone to motion sickness so always have regular Dramamine, chewable Bonine (easy to grab in a pinch) and ginger hard candy.  I also bring peach/ginger tea bags to make tea and drink it while dressing in morning if there is forecast for rough seas that day.  DS and myself dont have issues with motion but will drink the tea if forecast is bad enough just to be safe.

DH also get prescription (starts with first patch 24 hrs ahead of cruise to get in system) for patch and that works really well for him but the other things are added insurance.

I am sort of anti patches and medication ...personally we get natural ginger capsules and start taking them a few days before we sail (or if you like the taste of ginger munching on actual ginger will work too).  If on board I ever feel a bit woozy I eat a green apple and that always does the trick....

Cheryl transitioned from patches to ginger pills, and now uses ginger (essential) oils with good results. Nothing scientific, but be it from actual chemical effectiveness or a placebo effect - it's the end result which counts.

This was us on Legend on January 3rd. That day was pretty bad, but the entirety of the rest of the trip was great. The Atlantic can, and usually does,  let you know who is *really* in charge....

Meh. It's nothing until the tables and what is on them start moving....

Oh, stuff was falling off tables. They ended up closing all outdoor areas, and moved the deck 9 and 10 smoking area into the rear part of lido under the roof. The entire front half was shut down. A glass roof panel got broken too, it was a mess.

Where are you leaving from? Pretty big difference between NYC/Boston, Charleston/Eastcoast FL this time of year.

We cruised out of NYC at Xmas a few years ago, first day by far the largest seas I have been in on a cruiseship.

I had rough seas out of NYC in April once on the Splendor...unseasonably cold weather. We woke up the morning after we departed to 6” of snow on the deck!  Melted pretty quickly as we headed further south.

We also hit one of those odd “rogue” waves on that trip when I was playing in the casino. Boat tilted...and kept tilting. Stuff fell down. And then we tilted crazy in the other direction! Good thing I couldn’t look out a window where I was (I just held on to the slot machine for dear life).

Thank you!  I thought I was the crazy one.  Ten people gave answers without knowing where the cruise was?

Looks like the Legend might have a bit of rough seas getting back to Baltimore this Sunday with that nor'easter brewing. We went through the remnants of a nor'easter on Pride in 2018 that delayed us 6 and a half hours and Legend was delayed because of weather this past November. We'll be on Legend again in 23 days and our return flight won't be until the day after the cruise, just in case history repeats. Charleston shouldn't be too bad but one never really knows.

Huge storm systems moving over Charleston this weekend, could actually see some snow. Last weekend the bridge had to be shut down for falling ice damaging vehicles ,

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Ravenel Bridge was closed for a total of eight hours over the weekend as melting ice fell from the overhead cables, posing a serious danger to drivers below. Over the past 18 years, the bridge has closed three times due to melting ice.

This weather this year is crazy.  There's another system generating out west that could hit the east coast next Friday, right when we're driving into Charleston..

I cruised out of Charleston on the 13th. We had rough waters with lots of whitecaps going down to the Bahamas and coming back. We had lots of sea sick people looking for Dramamine. I do not have a problem with sea sickness but I did have to take a Dramamine on both days.

DH and I were on that sailing as well.  Fortunately we don't suffer from sea sickness but we did see a lot of whitecaps.  On the way back from Nassau I think the captain was putting the pedal to the metal.  I woke up a number of times hearing the wind howl and things banging.  We had never sailed out of Charleston before and that whole embarkation process is a pita.  It was nice to only be a three hour drive away from home.  Get the meds and be prepared so you can enjoy your cruise!

Thank God we are driving to the port so we don't have a baggage weight restriction.  We're bringing a lot of pullovers.  Relaxing on the deck with a good cigar and old fashioned doesn't seem as fun in 40 degree weather, but that's just me.
