Smoking is back in the casino

Unless I just missed something, this occurred without fanfare. The Carnival website now says smoking is allowed in the casino. Previously, smoking was banned completely. I am sure many smokers are happy. Personally, I was looking forward to being able to breathe in the casino and my hair and clothes not smelling like smoke!

i was hoping non-smoking would become the permanent policy in all indoor areas.

this will definitely impact the amount of time i spend in the casino, for upcoming cruise in march.

I was hoping so too. Thought maybe it would be one of those changes for the better that Covid accelerates. They must have determined that casino revenue was down without smoking.

And yet we still can’t get platinum priority boarding. Some things haven’t been in such a hurry to return.

There was lots of smoking in the casino when I last sailed in October. Did they prohibit smoking after that, and now are allowing it again?

They made the Casino nonsmoking right around Christmas as Omicron was on it's way. That's also the same time they made the entire inside of the ship a masking zone.

It is now safe for those in the Casino to smoke, but not safe enough to be able to take your mask off when walking past the casino.

I wouldn't bet on it ever coming back, honestly. Even though it's a perk that doesn't really cost them anything to provide, it's gone I'm sure.

My only recourse was take my husband with his cane along. They bumped us to the front of the line 🤣🤣

Very very disappointed in Carnival bringing back smoking in casino again. Did not see any drop in casino attendance with no smoking rules. It was so refreshing to be able to breathe while playing and not to have your clothes stink. Also had access to all slot machines. May need to find a no smoking casino line.

Virgin's Casino is nonsmoking and I am sure there are other lines.

Carnival still has memories of the Paradise. They are basically too scared to move towards the future. Their (smoking) guests would, for the most part, stick with them - after they stomp their feet and threaten to jump ship.

Heading out on the Reflection in under two weeks - Celebrity went 100% smoke free indoors (casino included) many years ago.

While you might not have seen a drop in casino attendance, I'm pretty darn sure that Carnival noticed a drop in revenue - or they would have taken this perfect opportunity to stay smoke-free.  I am actually one of the (electronic) smokers who believed that the numbers would even out in the wash, and we'd never see smoking casinos again.  I think their return to smoking is legitimate proof that they didn't see that happen.

In fairness, this wasn't an ideal time to 'run the test' - health conscious (smoking averse) gamblers are likely abstaining from cruising (and confined close quarter spaces like casinos) at higher rates then their less concerned brethren, and strict masking rules are obviously going to result in lower attendance.  I'm more accepting of masks then many, but on vacation, I definitely tend to lean towards activities and locations where I don't have to stay masked.  For me, it's half about comfort and half about limiting higher risk situations generally.  Either way, I'm certain that Carnival will be taking every bit of information they gleaned into consideration - but I'm also certain that they only brought it back because the initial numbers were clear.

All Carnival really needs to do is devote one ship in Canaveral or Miami a "nonsmoking indoors" ship. Keep the outdoors smoking areas for guests and crew, but no smoking indoors. Give it a solid year and then compare the figures. They gave Fathom a little over a year to prove itself, non smoking casinos deserve the same chance.

I am actually really surprised that they are allowing this....I was a full time smoker for MANY years...quit 4 years ago...I LOVED having my cigarettes while sitting at a slot machine....I am in no way one of those annoying REFORMED SMOKERS....I understand that the cruise lines need to make money....and lord knows when the smokers have to leave the casino to have a  cigarette in an outdoor setting...but come on....we are still in a covid pandemic....last time I checked this  virus attacked the LUNGS....so...hmmm....ya WOW

I am not a smoker, but logic tells me it's simple math....do they make more money not having smokers in the casino or do they make more money allowing smokers in the casino.  CLEARLY, they make more money having the smokers in the casino.  Now sure I read here a few times "well I won't be spending my money in the casino if they allow smoking again" and while true that position clearly doesn't have the impact that not having the smokers does.  So, to all those non-smokers the only way for you to turn those tides is to spend MORE money in the casino then the smokers do which obviously currently is not the case.

I think the only way that they'd be able to track that is on the Mardi Gras, since there are two distinct sides of the casino (smoking and non-smoking).

Another way for non-smokers to turn the tide - is just leave Carnival. If Carnival doesn't "get the message" then just eff them and move along.

Considering taking up smoking, as it appears it's either that or wear the makeshift mask until common sense kicks back in.  Anyone know if the cigarette needs to be lit, or what % of the time one must be burning?  Hoping it's not an 'actively smoking'/puff-and-replace situation (prefer puff-n-pass).  I'm thinking an unlit, dangling cigarette will pass, at least for 1/2hr or so.
