Let's see, take in $20 per day from 4 passengers, that's $80 per day of income.

After 7 days, we will have collected $560, then we give away $5K to one winner.

Sounds like John Padgett deserves another promotion.

You can enter as many times as you want for $20 for each entry.  On the door entry pad there is a button that says "Prizes".  Every time you push it is will charge your folio $20 for an entry that day.  How do we know this?

One of our traveling companions thought if was free and pushed the button quite a few times and their folio was charged $100 for 5 extra entries that day.  They did not read the fine print after pushing the "Prizes" button.

Princess was reluctant to remove the charges until they found out there was nowhere in the state room there was any information explaining the program and also that the person's Medallion was on the blink.

They way they have it set up that the unsuspecting can get charged multiple times without really knowing what is is happening is verging on the border of a bonafide scam!!

Is this the same for those who bought the premium package upfront?

We have already won $250 and have 3 entries so far for the final draw. Still have 5 nights of our cruise left, so maybe more to follow.

And how much extra did you pay for Premier?  For us to have upgraded to Premier $250 wouldnt come near to break even - even with our upgraded drinks.

At this point, I'd be afraid to flush the toilet in my cabin, out of fear of what they might charge me.

Would have been more appropriate to have toilet flushes trigger prize entries.  A win is if the darned thing works!

Wow. This is new to me. How ridiculous. That is just asking for Customers to be ticked when they don't understand this. Whatever are they thinking?

In the rules, the plays are $20 per day if you don't have Premier, not $20 per play. No offense but either your friends are mistaken or were mischarged. Also there is a set length of time that you have to wait between plays.

It is to do with gambling rules. The ship has to be out at sea for the door opening prizes to become available, as I guess it is a form of gambling. So they state Casino hours.

Haven’t worked out yet if we get more than one entry a day yet. We are in Port again today, but then have 3 sea days before we get home, so will try and work out how many entries we get in one day.  The cash prizes go straight to your on board account, but you have to spend it on board.

Does anyone have more details about this? Is the paid entry activated by medallion or just touching the pad at the door? I'm asking as I'm travelling with kiddos and we all know how tempting that would be for a tween......My thoughts would be that the system would register this was a kid approaching and not show the option to enter, but we all know how great the app/medallion has been so......

If you don't find out definitively before your cruise, I would ask guest services once on board if they can disable it if you are worried about the kids using it. One would hope that since it's considered gambling they are taking the necessary precautions to prevent things like this happening.

I simply think that Princess is moving in the wrong direction.  I have read comments about the lack of quality/consistency in services on recent cruises.    Just think Princess might step up its effort there over promoting prizes.

Obviously, given some comments here I am wrong, so be it.

Feedback on recent cruises about quality/consistency:  I'm thinking all cruise lines may be off their game bringing things back up to speed following the pandemic.  I think it will take a little while to bring things back to where they were.

Since the door unlocks (supposedly) as you approach the cabin, the first person in range (and the distance may vary for each person's Medallion) will unlock the door. So if you are walking together towards the cabin, you cannot tell in advance which Medallion will unlock the door.

Rules do say that those 18 years old by the end of the promotion period (12/31/22) are eligible.

o Casino, if I remember correctly, requires you to be 21 by embarkation day.

o Unless worded poorly, the rules do say that a 17 year old who will be 18 by the end of the year can participate.

I'm talking about the thing that you have to "pay to play" - no intention of purchasing the premier package so the locking/unlocking door thing doesn't matter BUT if one of the kiddos came back to the room and the "win a cruise" thing came up as they approached, I'm pretty cure they would be tempted to just go ahead and tap it...lol

I wish you hadn't said this -- never give Princess ideas about new fees they can impose!

Princess offering toilet paper they normally charge for as game show prizes--sounds to me like a brilliant idea.  Then you could afford to have a lot of winners.

I noticed when we did our B2B cruise on Princess this year, the same party of people on a B2B kept winning all the trivia games, because they got the same questions.   We could only win the ring toss competition for champagne, and the cornhole competition.

Then I sail on Norwegian this same summer, not a B2B, and I win 3 trivia games; 2 of them individual.   Wife wins "a free work of art" and $100 off an art auction bid.  Both of them pretty useless.

There are days on Cruise Critic when I wonder: if some of y'all won a million in a lottery, would you be pi$$ed that you had to pay the taxes, that it wasn't two million, that you had to pay for the ticket or some such? Princess prizes is simple: if you don't want to play, you don't have to, but good grief, finding seven ways from Sunday to pour dirty water on it... Goodness😂

Those who bought it upfront have paid for unlimited plays every five minutes if they so choose :)

Interesting. How does that work?

Since you are automatically entered with your Premier package, the rules state that you may enter every five minutes that the game is "open" (ie when the gambling is available). This is done by your medallion operating the door mechanism and activating the game. It is NOT done when someone else, such as housekeeping, medical, etc., enters the room.

Limit: one play per 5 minutes and only while ship’s gambling mechanism is turned on. Terms and conditions for Princess Prizes.
