How is the bidding system doing? Any comments?

Okay. So I bid on a few suite categories and the club class mini for Nov 6 California coastal.  I have been watching the open cabins, a ton of them in all bid categories as of yesterday.  Today, nothing open, all showing sold out.  So they must be processing the bids.  I guess my minimum’s for all the categories did not work as I did not get any type of notice😀. That is fine, happy with our current mini!

Can I just ask how you get a casino comp'd cruise?

Do you have to lose a specific amount of money - $10,000? - before you get a free cruise ?

I can guarantee I spend no where near $10,000 in the casino!    I saw some who do however.   I usually bet between 80 cents and $1.60 on slots (if I'm winning on a rare occasion I might bet up to $2.50).   For me, I probably spend more time in the casino than the average person.   I like to play in the evenings and on sea days.   Slot machines will get you more perks than playing tables, keno or video poker.    My BFF plays keno and bets way more than I do and she never gets as good of offers as me.   My DH plays the tables and he doesn't get good offers either.    That's our experience anyway.

Also, post covid the offers are coming seem to be much better than pre covid.   Probably has to do with PCL trying to fill up their ships (my guess anyway).

We got our upgrade bid offer today for our 15 day cruise on the Ruby.  We already got a great deal when we booked our obstructed oceanview cabin.

Heres the Upgrade bid offers:

Oceanview $105 pp

Balcony $470 pp

Premium balcony $545

We’re debating placing a bid on the regular balcony.  Still a great deal when added to what we paid for our oceanview

Since the cost of Princess insurance is based upon the cabin price, if a bid is accepted, does the price of your Princess insurance go up?  What about the tax portion of the cost?

Is the sq feet of living space (not including the balcony) the same as an obstructed ocean view cabin?

Yes the price of insurance goes up. At least that is what I’ve been reading on Princess web site. If your room type has a higher tax then that will go up as well. Some obstructed ocean view cabins are really obstructed. That depends on your location. A balcony is a bit bigger. If I remember correctly the base balcony still gets a mini couch. That is on the Ruby which has bigger rooms than the larger class ships. The Enchanted Princess has the narrowest doors I’ve ever seen.

I would not think we will have any reports of bid accepted until a few days before Oct 1.

I happen to be on an Oct 1st cruise so I will be happy to share if my lowball bid is accepted in a couple weeks 🙂

Cheers,

John

PS: Maybe someone's bid will be accepted right away if they offer the max bid amount. I haven't read anyone's post that did this (lol).

My friend got an upgrade email offer yesterday for the 10/01 Discovery coastal. He is in a GTY cat BE and has yet to be assigned a cabin. He had a min bid of $248pp for a Club Class mini. He bid the min $40pp for a Deluxe balcony. It will be interesting to see what he gets, all cats show "sold out" except for inside cabins.

Do you call them or get an email?  I was on the Enchanted on its maiden cruise last November. I spent a lot of time at the casino. I only play slots. I had bids ranging from .25 to 7.50. Maybe there is something I need to change in my profile?  Just wondering.

Make sure the boxes are checked to receive promotional emails (in your profile).   My BFF wasn't receiving any offers until she checked the box.   I've got all my boxes checked to cover everything 🙂

I booked through a TA - and have still not received an invitation to bid on the Nov 17 TransAtlantic on the Regal.  Today, TA tried to sign in with my booking number and last name and it said ineligible. Everything is paid, permission to receive emails, greenlined, vax card uploaded, CC on file and even luggage tags printed. We can't get an answer on why we are not eligible. Any ideas

I think it is a ship thing..... we're on the 10/1/2022 Regal, and not only has no one in our roll call or FB page been eligible, I have yet to hear of any Regal sailing getting it.

They may not have released your cruise yet and they did not say every cruise would be eligible.
Has anyone on your roll all received an invitation to bid?

Makes you wonder if Regal was incorrectly listed as one of the initial ships.  One or two posts I have seen are for a ship that was not on the list.  Maybe they mixed up Regal with it and not sure, but might have been Royal.

I was thinking that as well... in fact I seem to remember an earlier list that didn't have Regal on it, so maybe that was the right one.

Has the Regal been showing unavailable for weeks?  These ships seem to be the ones that are offered for bidding. 🤔

not sure - some people on the first leg - nov 6 say they got the letter - the TA portion doesn't start until nov 17

is there a recent link that shows which ships are available

Not that I know of.  Just roll calls and threads on PCL, sharing their experiences.

I don’t think they would publish anything like that, because it’s not available on every cruise or every guest.

I received my upgrade offer two days ago for the November sailing of the Diamond Princess, which was not on the aforementioned eligible ships at this time.

They said others will be rolled out.  They are rolling them out pretty fast.

Time is money!

Just received an invitation to bid on a cruise I put on hold yesterday.   No deposit planning on letting the hold expire tonight.   This is for the Sapphire departing December 2.

Would the offer add up to a savings?  Or, what you would have paid anyway?
