I know I would be happy, I don’t like that the Schooner Bar is right outside the casino on Freedom. thats reason we don’t sail on that class much.we love Schooner bar but not on Freedom

I also think a large non smoking casino with a smaller enclosed smoking casino would work just fine.  I have a local Indian casino nearby.  Before Covid the place was very smoky and stinky.  They eventually added a small enclosed non smoking room, which was nice.  Fast forward to Covid and when they were finally able to open up again, they required masks and only allowed smoking outside of the building. As time went on, they eliminated the masks but never reinstated indoor smoking except in the formerly non smoking enclosed room.  The place is just as busy as it was before.  It is clean and fresh smelling and I really haven't heard too much fuss about it.  

Same in ours in Arizona.   Where I go is now all non-smoking except a small enclosed room and outside.   Busy as ever or maybe more busy.

The Diamond lounges are still packed (on my sailings).  And I still go for conversation. 

 

It is very hard to have a conversation at a bar / lounge when they are playing blaring music.  Yes, the DL can get loud, but still quieter than other drinking venues.

If it was non-smoking, I'd spend way too much time in there.

Look at their financials.  According to the most recent quarter's results, Operating profit from ships is not sufficient to service debt.  So while they're making a profit, it's not enough.

I am a smoker, and casino player. I usually cruise NCL, but as we travel more, we're expanding our horizons. We'll be on Ovation in August, which looks to have fair smoking areas in addition to the casino.

 

NCL's newest ships have non-smoking casinos with separate smoking rooms. It works well, except for the inevitable "always p*ssed" complainers that don't like the minor amount of smoke that seeps from the room when the door opens.

 

I think this is the way it's all going to go eventually, and as long as there are fair and comfortable areas to smoke, I have no problem with it.

A poll of ALL cruisers would be a better way to find out what people really want.

Smokers are MORE DESIREABLE to the casino because they tend to gamble more and stay in the casino longer.  There's a study that discusses the "trance-inducing ritual" associated with both cigarette smoking and gambling.  Several other studies point to smoking as the reason why gamblers spend more time and money.

Shares of Enron stock reached their highest price on August 23rd, 2000 when shares reached a price of $90.75! The high share price gave Enron a market cap of about $70 billion, enough to make it the 7th largest publicly traded company.

 

 

The implication of my post is that sometimes a stock's share price can be nothing more that a wish and hope for good things to come, which may not materialize.

Note that they are not banning smoking in the casino. Only smoking at table games (not slot machines).

Day one of a cruise we make note of where the casino is and go up or down a floor to avoid going through the smokey haze of the casino. It works for us.

I think a better question is what’s more important to an individual, their health or their desire to gamble in a smoke filled casino? Last I heard no one was forced to gamble on a cruise ship.

Enron was reporting fictitious earnings.  Their accounting firm was sued out of existence.  At that time Arthur Andersen was the largest CPA firm.

Minor amount of smoke to a smoker is very different to a non (former) smoker.  Any cigarette smell is too much for me.

I get it. On the new Prima the smoking room is tucked away in a back corner that no one has to go near if they don't want to. On the Joy and Encore it is in a main walking area. The smell only lasts about 10-seconds (according to my non-smoking wife) but if you happen to walk by in that 10-seconds, yeah, I get it.

Yes but your non smoking wife is exposed to, well, a smoking husband.  She smells it all the time.  I can’t even stand walking by a smoker outside.

As we know Royal is great at enforcing their rules (chair hogs, anyone?), what makes you think they will (or do) enforce non-smoking sections of a casino, or smoking only for players.  I have on to many occasions and different ships seen people come in, stand around an ashtray and smoke, then leave.  And on Explorer in March, I saw people go up to the non-smoking section and stand and smoke.  I even asked an employee if I was mistaken and that wasn’t non smoking. She said yes it was, why?  I pointed out to her the smokers and she just said, oh well.

 

yep, this will be a forever debate unless it’s completely banned in a casino.

I bend over backwards to accommodate non-smokers.  All I ask is fairness in return. If it's a designated smoking area, then there will be smokers there. I don't know what more to tell you.
