Vaping in Casino on Equinox

Great on the refund; at least they are doing the right thing there. I want to wait to see if they spread this to other ships before I cancel, but don't want to lose the chance to cancel. Our two cruises are in September so time is getting close. They must have had a smoker make this decision. Shortly this will become a big social media influencer thing; this will be an environmental and social fail for Celebrity.

I wouldn't bet the bank on what one person said about refunding a particular caller's NRD.   It certainly doesn't constitute a "doing the right thing" policy.   I bet even that customer will have to fight for it as they said.  Hopefully this will be a failed test and policy will be the same as before.

Agreed. My guess is that they noted the potential refund request but committed to nothing.

My WAG (Wild A$$ Guess) is unless they're getting many of their high rollers to complain, the casino, who most likely came up with the vape idea, cares even less than the Exec Office.  As others pointed out, it's pretty telling that they removed the vaping signs but still allow it

This was stated a while ago, but I agree this is a somewhat likely scenario.

I think I’m beginning to understand why Lisa moved to a transition to retirement position.  These knee jerk, money grabbing changes/tests may have been  the impetus for the parting of the ways for her.
Unfortunately the brand is trying to move down to mediocrity and the the new President (not CEO) is there to implement the the downgrade.

I totally agree as I said it felt like the agent was just paying lip service. The cruise with the NRD is the Beyond Panama Canal cruise in March. We have a S1 booked at a fabulous price and it is one we would really like to take. So we most likely will and just boycott the casino except to remove our OBC. However that sailing is no longer showing on the web site. 🤷🏻Or on any TA sites surely Celebrity would not cancel it and do a charter.

We have felt the same way about Viking's River Cruise deposits and payment. At $20K for a river cruise, I can do a lot more with my money than they can...I hope! It's the worst final payment program in all of sailing.

We felt the same but since the top bucket list item is Egypt and Jordan and Viking offers a wonderful itinerary AND sells out years in advance we are booked in 2025 with a final pay of December 2023.  All efforts to have that delayed have failed though they do have a policy if you have more than one trip booked with them they will move that date to 6 months our apparently.

When this gets rolled out to the other ships,  I will just skip the casino on my next cruise ...

To be honest I avoid the casino anyway.  But in the Beyond I found myself walking through it to go fore and aft.  I need to look at deck plans to see if there are better ways to get around.

Some people walked through the casino to get off the ship from the theater but if you went a little farther you could find another way down the stairs.  But not back and forth.  It was only my first time on that ship.

Interestingly just got a survey about “you were looking at a cruise but haven’t booked it yet” (I guess I was looking not on an incognito browser). Every slot I could (like why haven’t you booked or what would make you more likely to book) I said the “test” for allowing indoor vaping is making me hesitant and them being clear it is not allowed would help me decide.

I figure every chance they give me to tell them the idea sucks I’ll take it.

It wouldn't be surprised if the X person reading this thinks "What are they talking about vape test?  Our casinos are 100% smoke free! <deletes responses>"

Well if nothing else this thread has made me more aware about vaping.

People can vape in your hotel room and it will not be noticed.

How does one know if someone vaped in their cruise cabin or hotel room before them?  They likely don't...

I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Know of anyone who got caught vaping in a cruise cabin or hotel room?

Smoking is obvious because it smells.  Vape disipates and leaves a bit of residue.  Much harder to detect...

At least that is what I read from the vapers vaping in hotel rooms...  Who have not been caught.

The problem is that it is being allowed in public venues I have no problem if people wish to smoke or vape in the designated areas. I just avoid them but why should I be exposed to vape chemicals in an enclosed space. If people want to vape in their cabins not a lot can be done, smoking is a different situation as the smell of smoking can easily be detected.

If it was up to me I would not allow smoking or vaping anywhere on a ship and I really wish a cruise line would come out with such a policy.

Hang in there, soon they will be smoking, vaping in the new designated smoking lounge, aka casino.

Wishful thinking. That'll never happen.

Some vape can be detected some not.  I’ll give you that. It depends on the scents used.  I have noticed it before and when being near vapers.

If it leaves a residue how is that undetectable?.

I would not say undetectable,  but very expensive to detect.

Are you going to run a chemical analysis on the residue and come back with the answer several days later or a week later when the occupant of the room is gone?

They do have vape detectors that are very expensive  but vapers claim that they can vape without them being set off.

At least when I get a new room the hard surfaces are cleaned.  I am not so sure about the sitting surfaces such as cloth couches and the like.

Can’t answer your question.  I prefer no vaping.  I don’t believe all vaping is unnoticeable.

Some might be undetectable, but it is obviously impossible to know when it isn't detected unless vapers suddenly start announcing that they did it.

The articles that I was reading was where vapers went to hotels that had vape detectors installed,  signed paperwork that they understood they were installed and agreed to not vape.  They did vape and did not get fined for vaping.

Others in this thread have stated that they know of someone who vaped in their cabin on a Celebrity cruise.

once again..you have it 100% correct..a sad decline.  dh and I  are happy we had the best years with Celeb.

After our ASCENT and APEX cruises..it might be our time to phase out X.

The E class ships are beautiful,  but the experience is becoming way too Royalized..new mgmnt does not know any other way!

Which addresses the possibility that some vapers might be able to use certain ingredients that the sensors do not detect. That is likely not the average vaper. Sensors also do not likely always detect lingering perfumes or flavoring chemicals.

I had a friend who thought she was so clever because she said she could always tell if a man was wearing a toupee. I asked how she would know if she didn't detect one.

My point is we wouldn't know if we didn't detect a vaper, only if we do.
