Change in cashing out in casino

So hubby and I are on the final two days of our cruise.  We decided to go to the casino and cash out whatever monies are on our account.  I thought it odd that no announcement was made to remember to cash out before you leave the ship.  My husband had only non refundable monies on his account and was told he could only spend it.  I had refundable monies but since the monies were not winnings onboard the ship, the casino could not pay me.  I asked where I could get my money and have now been told to leave it on my account and when I am home it will either go back to my charge card or they will send me a check.  This makes me nervous that they even do that.

Your post reads to me that you went to the casino and simply asked someone (perhaps the cage cashiers) to cash out your OBC.  Is this correct?

Were you ever in the casino and gambled?  When you gambled, did you load funds onto your Medallion?  If so, the charge would go to your cabin account.

IMO, it looks like you just asked for money and didn't use the casino.  That will never work.  You have to "invest" money and play in the casino and then you can cash out any balance.

Sorry but you have me a bit confused.  The casino allows you to put money into machine, or go into your account and transfer funds to use a machine or if you have been in casino before and have money in the casino acct it lets you use it.

when I wanted to totally cash out I had no winnings so I had nothing in the casino acct.  they would not let me get the other monies.   My concern is how long do I wait for credit on my credit card or for a check to arrive.

Okay, so this post clarifies that you had $0 on your casino account (associated with Medallion).  If that is the case, you cannot get blood from a stone, so to speak.  I don't see why you could not have re-loaded the card and then started gambling again.  But they were obviously onto you by that point anyway.

I always manage to lose $100 - $200 before I cash out at the end of the cruise. Not the world's greatest gambler. On our last cruise I decided to punch the button on the slot one more time before cashing out. I hit the button but for some odd reason not the one I normally hit which is the "Max Bet" button. Sadly, the one time I hit the regular button I won. I've never seen three 7's line up before. D'Oh! Costly mistake. 🤪

About a year ago, we were having a conversation with a HGM regarding this topic.  At that time, the HGM stated that Princess was working on a software change that will keep your casino account completely separate from your stateroom account.  When this occurs, any charges made in the casino will NOT go against OBC's in your stateroom account.

I'm surprised that this has not yet been implemented?  🤷‍♂️

Actually I too am surprised it has not happened yet. When it does happen, and we can no longer game the system with Princess permission, my wife can just blow the money on Iffy (sic) crap. We still won't be out anything.

Actually, I gambled every time the casino was opened daily.  FYI what I ended up doing and it luckily worked for me was - I moved all my obc to the casino account and came home a winner and my account on the ship reads minus .10 now.  So I am very happy.  Hubby’s stock obc is non refundable so because of a liquor sale today he purchased 4 bottles of alcohol and he has 3.90 on his account.

My girlfriend had a lot of non refundable obc.  She purchases art on the ships she is on and that uses her obc up.  For some reason they wanted to use her charge card and she was upset and complained.  Tonight she learned they did use her obs so she too is happy.

You can't do that. The cruise line refunds that money not the casino. You should have asked at customer service.

On our last cruise, I had $400 in non-refundable OBC remaining towards the end of the cruise. On the last sea day I went to the casino, loaded $400 on one of the slot machines, and played a few times. I lost about $10, cashed out, and walked out with $390 in cash. I can only assume that you did not do it this way.

Oy vey!

Not one of the great secrets, it has been going on for years. If you think that Princess is not aware of it then I have a bridge for you.

Also, I'm not sure why they would care to stop it. If you get your money back in the casino, they don't have to issue you a check which has a cost. And either way, you get the money back.

They did announce it. That's how we all found out about it.

Yup; one time we had like $1000 OBC..we did exactly that, cashed out like $980 IIRC. You just gotta make technology work for you; not against you

Before you make judgements, if you read everything I posted you would see that I did exactly what you did.  Further I wish you would realize that this is the perfect place to write anything regarding princess be it good or bad.  Judgments are bad.

Your response does not make any sense because I did not say anything about what I have or have not ever done personally. I did, however, based upon what you wrote (and my 33 years of frequent cruising and 15+ years of reading CC boards) admittedly surmise (as did others reading your posts) what may have taken place here which is that it seems you had $0 in your casino purse but wanted the casino cage to cash out the OBC in your onboard account. If I was in error in this regard, my apologies. But, as stated above, others reached the same conclusion.

I really wish people would NOT post these things. "They" do read these boards. Please keep your counsel and don't contribute to people losing even more...

Apparently you don't give Princess much credit for knowing what is going on onboard their ships. They certainly haven't had any problem fleecing people lately.

I have questions.... How does one "load funds into one's medallion"? We've never gambled on a cruise before, so I don't know how it works.

We will have a small amount of non-refundable OBC from Princess ($50 pp x 3 people). We will use it towards gratuities and specialty dining for the kid who doesn't have the Premier package.

Our parents will have $100 OBC. Is there any way to transfer their OBC to our cabin's folio? They also have the Premier package and will have no use for their OBC. We, however, could use it toward our kid's 2nd specialty dinner.

If it is impossible to transfer OBC to someone else, can I use the "casino trick" to cash it out? Or do I just have to spend it on purchases?

Also, an OBC related question - if we don't do specialty dining on our cruise, will this credit remain a non-refundable OBC or simply burn up? We'll have premier package - also our first time with that.

PARENTS:  No, you cannot directly transfer OBC.  Your parents could pick up the tab for the kid's SD bookings.  They might find other things to spend with.  You can then reimburse them in cash for the expenses they cover.

OBC cannot be transferred to other guests.  If you have a friend who needs to pay for something on board, one of your parents could be with them and put the charge on their room.  The other person would then give them the cash payment for whatever item it was (including on-board stores).

You could keep your OBC and spend parents in ways mentioned above.  You could visit the casino and use your Medallion to setup an account on the blinking, noisy machines that love to suck up cash.  You would then elect to load $X to your Medallion account and you then play on that machine for some and see how you do.  (Every time you play or elect to load funds, you will tap Medallion and enter personal PIN you picked at setup time).  Optionally, you could do the same at the electronic poker table.  Or, go to casino cage and setup.  You can buy chips at gaming tables and play there as well.  Just remember to cash out at the casino cage before last night of the cruise.  Casino play is charged to the cabin account and goes against OBC or final settlement to credit card on account.

If you leave Non-Refundable OBC unspent, it just vaporizes upon check-out.  If you have Refundable OBC (pretty rare), you can get refunded small amounts from Guest Services or you get a check in the mail post-cruise.

If you're talking the dining credits as part of the Premier Cruise Package - these have no cash value. If you don't use them to actually do specialty dining, they're gone. There's no cash value and nothing to refund.. The 2 specialty dinners per Premier Cruise Package are not OBC or anything like that..

Further - to load $$ onto your casino account, very easy:

On a slot machine, tap medallion, set up account (birthday, PIN, etc - it's very self explanatory), then type in how much you want to "gamble".. If it's $100, type in $100, accept and voila - you e now charged $100 to your onboard account, which would be offset by whatever OBC you may have.  You can spin once or twice then cash out, or just cash out.  Take the receipt to the casino cashier and voila - you have cash in hand.

Your parents could each do this to cash their OBC and give the cash to you : they can't transfer their account's OBC to you any other way..

Or, they could simply use their OBC to pay for your child's specialty dining, assuming you're all dining together..

That's how I did it last month. The only change was I had to lose $20 before I'd get the free $10 worth of play. And the machine kept recoding wins. Transferred over $300, had $298 at the end. Never got the $10 but never really lost IMHO

If you are trying to use the coupon in the Princess book, you only need to ‘play’ $20, whether you win or lose is not the point of qualifying for the coupon.

Sometimes the cashier will not even check if you have gambled at least $20, but you are mistaken believing you need to lose $20 before you can get the $10 free play coupon added .

Well then I was right & they were wrong as I played quite a bit but was never down by $20.

I have actually had the front desk transfer my OBC to my brother and his wife when they cruised with us.  I’m not saying I make a habit of this but it is doable.

Okay.  Maybe they will do for family members traveling together.  I didn't think it was a "thing" in general.

I am going to try that, thank you! Our cabin accounts are connected, and I will be using my CC on both as well - I hope it helps.

yes, we will be, but how can they use THEIR OBC to pay for my kid at a specialty restaurant? When I make a reservation for him, it gets charged to OUR cabin's folio. This would be the easiest and most useful way to spend their OBC (they seriously don't need anything else onboard).

thank you! Wasn't sure how that worked, since I saw "credit applied" when I tried to make a reservation at a specialty restaurant.
