I've noticed it is closed during most of the day or when in port. I was mostly wondering how late it stays open. I'm not sure how late the casino stays open but, from posts I've seen regarding late night casino time, I wondered how late the casino is open and if the bar stays open that late. The other bars seem to die around 11:00. I've seen Skywalker's open later on Grand Class ships but I've also experienced being the only one there around midnight and the staff calling to ask if they could close as they had essentially no customers. (It was a 28 day cruise and most folks were in bed by 10:00 PM. On the final 8 sea days coming back to LA from Tahiti they did get people up there at night but it was a "big crowd" of maybe 10 people.) Sometimes I may not be able to sleep and would appreciate a "sedative" drink or even  San Pellegrino but everywhere is closed so I wondered about the Casino Bar.

My bedtime is around 11 so I don't know how much later the bar or casino is open.  I know that people play all night long when it is a sea day

Slots are open all night but the cage, table games and bars do close. We usually don’t even hit the casino till 10:00 or so

if you are playing the "free play account money" you do not accumulate points

You are 100% correct , no points on "free play" slot wagers, only the accumulated cash winnings during the free play session. Regardless of what anyone says or remembers here about their previous Free Play sessions, there are no points awarded on Princess Ships slots for Free Play wagers --- THIS IS A FACT.

Your fact is wrong. I have played 1,000 dollars of free play and accumulated points for years. I have.$600 free play on a 4 day cruise this year I will bet I have points

Is it possible to NOT log onto your casino account?  In a land based casino, I don't have to insert my Rewards Card, and the slot machine will still work.  But can I play slots on a ship without using a Medallion or Card?

And at the table games, the dealer always asks for my Medallion or Card.  Am I allowed to say "No"?  I can't really stay anonymous (the Medallion has RFID after all).

You can feed a slot paper money, but if you want to cash out the medallion is required.  Not sure about table games, but I bet you can.

Yes, cash is king. Table games gladly accept it.  It's less hassle for the staff (and other players) than charging to your room, which you can absolutely do as well.

Whenever you want provided the cashier is open ...

I have one of those coupon "book" coupons.  "$10 in casino free play when you spend $20 in the casino."

Do I go to casino cage and turn in my coupon?  Do they add $10 to my $20 that I have to place?  Do I have to "lose" all my $20 before their $10 kicks in?

You do not have to lose anything to get the $10 free play. I figure out how much I'm willing to lose for the cruise, load it into my bank, go to the window & have the $10 added to my bank. Use free play 1st.

We get free play all the time. It does NOT count towards points. If I use the free play on the 2nd or 3rd day of playing slots, there are no points given when I use that. I usually start out with my own cash to play then use the free play later on.....I have been doing this for a very long time.

slightly off topic-did your coupon book come in the form of an email (I have been told I have coupon books on a couple of cruises but didn't see them). I remember when they were in our stateroom (pre-covid) but not seen them since. I see that I have coupon books on a couple of my upcoming cruises and spent some time on "Chat" with Princess. I was told they come in the form of emails. I was also told that if I didn't get the email, I should check with GS. I know that didn't work two months ago. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When checking our safe prior to disembarking our last cruise, I found a $100 free play chip under the plastic liner. It must have been left by a previous cruiser. Since I don’t normally visit the casino, is this something I can use on a future cruise?

Yes, take it to the cashier and have them exchange it for $5 free play chips if you want to play the tables. If you want to play slots have them apply the $100 free play chip to your casino account and you will have $100 free play when you log into a slot machine.

Nice find.  Let us know how it works out for you.

Two things.

1. If you feed cash into the machine and are a winner you must still use your Medallion to get the winnings "loaded" into your account. (You should just go ahead and setup an account on the machine before you attempt to play.) Once you have moved the winnings from the machine to your account via the Medallion then take the Medallion to the cashier and get your money.

2. If you are on a cruise that has Victoria as the next to last port and go from there to Vancouver you must cash out two days before you disembark. If you wait until the day before disembarkation you will find the casino closed as the ship doesn't go far enough out to sea to open the casino between Victoria and Vancouver. If you haven't closed your account in time you will have to wait for Princess to mail your winnings to you. (It took about a month for me to get my money.)

No idea here,  but you both cannot be right.

Question:  If a guest gambles $1,000 of their own funds on a cruise, how many points does that get them and then what good are the points?  I am guessing they turn into casino credits for the next time.  If so, how many dollars would the points represent?  Just curious if someone blew through a grand, how much play money might they get back the next time?  I suppose it may not be an easy question if the next time also comes with a free or subsidized cabin.

That is not really how it works. If you put $1000 cash in, and run through that $1000 without having a single “win”, you would’ve played through $1000 worth of points, and no more. On the other hand, if you hit a more statistically normal percentage of winnings, your $1000, played through once will leave you with about $900 still on the machine. If you play that $900 through, you’ll end up with about $800 left on the machine. If you played that $800 through, you’ll end up with somewhere in the neighborhood of $650 remaining. When you add up all the money you played, you might end up with $4000 worth of points.

so there is no way to say how many points you’ll have if you play $1000 through.

I cannot guess what those points will get you in terms of casino discount offers or OBC.  There is NO transparency.

The basic rule is:  do not play for comps. You gamble for the entertainment value and the excitement of gambling.

if you use cash to start, the $500 will be on the machine and once you cash out (their term), the money goes in your bank on the casino account.  So you put in $500 on first day, play all week, win or lose you have money in your account on the last day, you then go to the casino cage and cash out and receive real money.

I am not looking to play for comps or anything else.  I just have some curiosity as to how it works.

I understand what you are saying, that a typical session might result in a loss of 10% of funds.  It could be more or it could be less, if playing fickle machines.  I understand what you are getting at.  But one walks away with $600 after playing for X hours and has lost $400.  Wondering what is gained back through points or future cruise benefits.  I was thinking it doesn't matter whether a guest loses the $400 in half an hour or over 6 nights in the casino.  But perhaps it does.

If you make four $100 pulls, you have “earned” only the points for wagering $400.  Very little. In my example, you would have earned the points from betting $1000 first cycle, $900 second cycle, $800 third cycle, for $2,700 wagering at a loss of that same $400.  Win or lose does not matter on points earned.

However, points earned are only part of what they look at.  The algorithms are not public.  But casinos need you to be a long and steady gambler for you to earn comps.

Similar rules for table games.  Play for hours, not for ten minutes!

Your last part makes sense (it all makes sense, actually).  The longer a gambler plays, the more the casino should come out ahead - given the odds are forever in their favor.
